I have ordered many fruit trees and berry plants from Raintree; with a pretty much 100 % survival rate. Some purchases include a Mount Royal semidwarf plum; a Conference and a Honeysweet pear; ( both considered self-fruitful); Belmac Belle De Boskoop; and Khahrmin heirloom apple; and a a Tehrannavee and a Vandalay sweet cherry. The cherries bear about every 2 nd yr; due to our zone 4 late frosts. (but their delicious when they do! ) Also ordered their Primus white; Crandall black: ( lg; sweeter black currents w/ anise scented yellow blooms that scent your whole yard.) Boskoop Giant black current; and Jonkeervan Tets red current. They've done very well for us; and make delicious jellies and juice. Also bought several grapevives and a Petite Negri fig; that all did very well; too. I find their shipping procedures and delivery schedule to be very satisfactory. I try try to order during the spring promotion ea.year; when they give a bonus plant ( your choice from a lg. list.) with purchase. Cant really think of any cons to mention.

Ordered a 4-in-1 asian plum tree in Spring 19, since I did not have room for two trees to pollinate each other.

The shipping took a few weeks, but the tree that arrived was top quality. A solid tree with nice grafts and good sized branches for each of the varieities. The tree took great and has put on good growth.

I am going to buy fruit trees from these guys again, since they have dwarf varieities and options not carried by Stark Bros. and they appear to be as good a quality, if not better. Very impressed.

I've ordered in excess of 30 plants from Raintree over the years. I've had consistently GOOD LUCK, I think I've only had 1 plant failure, which means > 95% success (meaning the plants lived for at least 1 year). I mostly order fruit trees: plums, cherries, pomegranates, persimmons. These have mostly done well--and what hasn't done well are things that arguably aren't suited to the climate. Trees have generally been larger than I expect, with the exception of Nikita's Gift persimmon, which was a bit on the small side. I did get credit for that one failed tree as well. Raintree's selection of plums is really outstanding, and they have many fruit varieties that can be found nowhere else. For persimmons--Raintree shipped them bareroot, and while mine survived, I don't think they enjoy that treatment--might be better to buy persimmons from a local source in pots.

I always plant my trees promptly and don't let them sit in the shipping package any longer than necessary.

Raintree has been my go-to nursery for several years now, due to their wide selection of hard-to-find edibles, and I have never been disappointed. I usually order well ahead of time, but I have placed impromptu impulse orders as well, and everything has gone well and I have received nothing but good stock. I have never had any occasion to deal directly with customer service, because the orders have always been fine. I hope that they continue to expand their stock of fascinating varieties.

This is a slight positive rating. Product was good, I paid extra for a specific delivery window and it happened, they had some specific things I was looking for.

Customer service was CRAP though. I felt like I was bothering them every time I spoke to them even though I was buying hundreds of dollars of product. I could email and not get a response for days. They acted like I was a jerk for wanting my tracking #.

The service was so bad I'm actually really tempted to rate this neutral, but I figure what I paid for was a good product when I needed it - and I got that.

Received my five trees today, 2 persimmons, a pluot, apricot, and peach. They came in good condition for the most part, a couple of trees had big gashes on their trunk from being dug up I suppose. The trees at about 3ft tall not counting the roots, heavily pruned back, and all seem to be alive to the top. Price was average for my area and they had cultivars that I couldn't get elsewhere. Don't like that I had to wait so long to get my trees, they have a shipping chart to show when they ship to each state, supposedly it's to help with the cost of shipping but I still don't like planting this late in my area since its going to get very hot soon. I'll update if the trees have any problems with the trunks.

Extremely Pleased

Frankly, I have ordered plants and bareroot stock from many many online nurseries, including almost all of the major ones, and it is generally a very mediocre experience, at best. That is why I am so pleased with Raintree Nursery.

I ordered a bareroot blueberry plant, variety AURORA, since no one sells Aurora around here. I ordered it in early May and it was delivered in late May, so both the order and the delivery were late in the year for our Zone 6. Because of the lateness, I expected them to send me scraggly, picked over stock, and I thought it would probably arrive in poor shape and not do well, but I wanted to try.

Was I ever surprised. The plant, when it came, was very strong, beautiful and full of life. The packing was excellent, the roots were moist, and I soon moved it into my garden where it is doing very well. Truthfully, I would have been pleased if it had arrived in half the condition it did.

Based on this experience, I rate them very highly. Unlike some of the large, national mail order companies, Raintree Nursery really seems to care.

Being from washington, it seems to make sense to order locally to lessen the ordeal of shipping. Raintree has a great online selection and great apple varieties you cant find at the big box stores. I ordered 2 apple trees, 1 Akane and 1 Beni Shogun. The Akane was nice and large about 6.5 ft tall but the Shogun was a tiny whip about 3ft. Strangely enough they were the same price. They were well packaged and the newspaper shredding were still moist upon arrival. I have them in the ground now so hopefully they do well this spring.

THANK YOU SO MUCH Raintree-not expecting anything from apples this year and can't tell you how thrilled I am with your careful packing, timely shipping and communication, rapid growth of this new tree and, most of all, the surprise of finding new little apples-no question I'll be back when in the market for trees or berries!!

I ordered two sweet cherries and two goose berry bushes.
The sweet cherries survived a brutal winter in upstate NY and a dry summer - they started producing fruit two years after planting.
The gooseberries were very good but this year they were attacked by some insect or disease that defoliated them - my fault for not spraying them. Good quality fruit trees and bushes.

On April 23rd, 2011, bryana added the following:

I ordered two fig trees.
One was good sized - 24 inches tall in a 6 inch pot. The other was only 7 inches tall, also in a 6 inch pot. I called to complain about the size of the smaller one and they refunded the purchase price.
Not the best experience (I would rather have had the full sized tree) but still good enough for a positive rating. Both trees have a small pair of leaves on top and appear to be healthy.
On May 17th, 2014, bryana added the following:

I ordered two fig trees, some blackberry hybrids and some raspberries.
All arrived (across country) in excellent shape. The fig trees especially were very good sized.

Just received a dwarf cherry tree that was ordered several weeks ago. The tree arrived in good shape, it's a reasonable size (4.5'), has several well placed little branches and a pretty good root system. It hasn't yet broken dormancy, and that's good in my estimation, because it's worrisome to see a tree that's not yet in the ground but is starting to try to develop leaves. Overall, I'm very pleased and fingers are crossed that the tree settles in well.

Positives:
-Great Variety.
-Good refund policy (though shipping costs aren't included).
-Good Customer Service (though not getting a response to an email which they directed me to send was annoying).
-Good Deals with bulk and package orders.
-Most of the three dozen or so plants I have ordered have leafed out: only a few duds.
-Plants arrived well packaged/protected, but (see below). . .
-Nice Website, but (see below). . .

Negatives:
-Comparatively expensive plants (and for what you pay: they are modestly sized: some of the trees are 'whips': e.i. no branches).
-Comparatively expensive shipping.
-I don't think their refund policy extends over the winter: it's just for the growing season.
-Plants arrived slightly on the dry side -so if you order: tend to your plants soon.
-Website could be organized better: not pared down: just less information/choices thrown at you at once. Also, a little blurb for each plant listed would be nice, so one wouldn't have to click on each plant to get even basic information.

Overall:
- I am very satisfied with Raintree and I would order from them again.
-That being said I planted many of their smallish trees this season and though they have leafed out (except one) I am concerned how they will do over the winter -and without a one year guarantee my positive experience could turn into a negative one if I have a bunch of dead trees come spring!

raintree nursery had packed my wolf river dwarf apple and methly plum like they were museum pieces. They arrived in healthy condition and container having much room for the little guys were undamaged . While their size was smaller than the fruit trees I have purchased from Gurneys eons ago when they had a better reputation, they were hardy and ready to go.They have survived so far a spring and maybe half a summer. It took faith and dedication to grow them this far with God's help, but they would not have not gotten this far if the trunks were not as straight and branching as symetrical .I intend on ordering from them soon so I can get more sturdy stck for next spring! They should be in Dave's top ten or at least top thirty!

Ordered a few plants - a weeping Santa rosa plum, a yacon, and a cranberry. The Yacon and cranberry were as expected - four inch pots, ho-hum in size - but the tree looked great - over an inch in diameter, with a solid graft, and pruned to a single whip about five feet above the rootball. The tree arrived bare root (roots were trimmed, but well-formed), and packed in moist newspaper, but should be fine, as it is fully dormant. I'm excited to see what it looks like in a year.

I have worked with and occasionally for Raintree Nursery for over 30 years. The owners of RT are good people dedicated to the mission of finding and supplying the best edible varieties from around the world for home gardeners. They have succeeded! The care and support to their employees have always been foremost in creating a pleasant working environment and benefits for their employees as well as an educational and pleasant experience for the customers.
People being people sometimes some employees do not fit in and harbor resentment or frustration when this happens. Sometimes even the best of care on the part of the nursery some plants do not grow. The place to look is to the soil and to the gardener where most gardening problems originate. I am very glad Raintree exists and am grateful that I can easily get these plants delivered to my door year after year.

Approximately one year ago, I ordered five apple trees and three cherry trees.
First, the bad: The first communication I received was a ship notice (several weeks after I placed the order, at the appropriate time for my zone) that stated one of my apple trees was sold out and had been removed from my order. This should have been stated on the website prior to my order, or, at least, I should have been contacted and given the opportunity to select an alternative (I would have).

Now, the good: All seven of the trees I received are thriving. I was impressed with the gauge (diameter) of the trees. They were well packaged -- the healthy roots were packed with damp shredded paper, and a bamboo stick provided additional strength. One of the apples and all three cherries put on blooms (that I removed.) I followed the included pruning instructions, and, by the end of the season, several of the trees were taller than me, having grown as much as four feet in one year.

I will absolutely order from them again. Their prices are a bit higher, but their stock is excellent, and their selection is great.

I'm giving this company a positive mainly because their catalog is so informative and interesting.

Their trees have been good, although their customer service has only been fair. I ordered something last year, and simply never received it, even though they billed me. I contacted them again, and they at least acknowledge they have to send it to me this spring, so there was poor communication, but nothing really bad.

But, with a very informative, and I do mean very informative, catalog, excellent varieties, and good quality trees, I have no issue giving them a positive.

On April 21st, 2012, TA152H added the following:

I had the same experience as usual with RainTree, both good and bad.

I wanted to add another item to an order that had not shipped in about a year, but was scheduled, as it turns out, nine days later, but they would not let me. They told me it had already been sent to the warehouse (I guess they don't know what a computer is, so probably won't be able to read this anyway), and could not be changed. Really bad customer service, as the person made no effort; even the email was very terse, without even putting a name in it.

On the plus side, they sent me another catalog, and their catalogs are extraordinary. They are very honest, very informative, and very interesting. It's a great catalog for ordering, and a great catalog for learning.

Also, I received two trees (from last year's order), and both were top quality. Very, very nice trees. So, I'm still leaving it positive even though their customer service blows. Even so, they lost the sale of the other tree I wanted.
