Comments regarding Raintree Nursery

I have ordered multiple bare root trees from this nursery. The tree have all done wonderfully.

I have placed 3 orders in 2003 for 14 fruit trees (apples, plums, pears and cherries)with them. All were of the highest quality and they were very helpfull in answering questions on their tree varieties. I plan to place a repeat order for next year.

I recently placed an order for a persimmon tree. I was told it would be shipped on Monday, May 12th and would arrive at my door by the end of the week. It did arrive as promised on Thursday. The tree was packaged very well and came with very clear planting and care instructions. It was also a nice sized tree with a healthy looking root system. We planted it the next day and so far it is doing very well. I was impressed with the way my order was handled from start to finish and will definitely order from Raintree Nursery again

I purchased 2 patio peach trees and blueberries from them last year...They were in excellant shape when I recieved them, and all are doing well, healthy and happy this year. They have a terrific catalog, and a frienddly and knowledgeable staff.

I ordered three crabapples and two apples this spring from Raintree and I was pleasantly surprised by the size and condition of the trees. Although one of the crabapples was out of stock, the four trees that I received were large and had ample roots. The trees rapidly broke dormancy are are looking to be in excellent condition so far. I will not hestitate to use Raintree for my future purchases.

I'd recomend this company to other people. You won't get ripped off. There shipping is high and a little higher in price than other companys. I'd order from them again because of what thay offer. If you have a replacement problem you pay shipping again. It is three to four times as high as other companys. I'd still order from them if someone else did have what I wanted. Thay will work with you and try to make it right. If thay could only get a control of there shipping prices.

I ordered several each of the Currant and Gooseberry varieties, all arrived in 4 days, and in very good condition, and much larger than expected. I am especially impressed with the size of the Currant plants. They have been planted and most are leafing out already, and doing very well. I will order from this company again.

Very good fruit trees, considered one of the consistant best places to get fruit trees for the home gardener I would recommend them. The trees were 3-4 feathered limbs starting to grow and were 4 feet high, with large root systems. Shipping box was very sturdy, and packing was done well material could not move, dryout, or bend. I ordered 2 varieties of sweet cherry trees, which dug in and leafed out quickly, even though deer got them twice. Trees on average are about $3-$5 more per item but they look worth the higher price because of the size. Shipping is high to the midwest they started doing a zone skip method to UPS hubs located in the US to speed up and lower the cost of shipping, I will try this method this year when I order from them.

Since the trees I ordered could be planted as soon as I got them, Raintree shipped immediately. Although it's still early, the trees appear to be in excellent condition and the packaging kept them well protected. I would definitely order from them again

I would order from this company again. I have ordered from Raintree nursery for the past four years, as well as several other big-name nurseries. I have always been impressed with the catalog's completeness; it gives information on planting, landscaping, harvesting, even propogating (how many nurseries are helpful enough to tell you how to make more plants?). It does this without the BS factor that you usually have to take into account with other mail-order places. You know what I mean: HUGE APPLES THE SIZE OF IGUANAS!!!!! My list of ordered plants includes 3 apple trees, 4 gooseberries, 4 currants, 1 grape, 1 fig, 1 pomegranate, 3 types of strawberries, 3 types of blackberries, serviceberries, 3 elderberries, and a passionflower vine as well as books and odds-and-ends. They arrived at the proper planting time for the high desert. Out of these, the fig and an elderberry died and were replaced by the company without question. All of the trees and bushes were of a good size-compare that to my experience with DirectGardening, who sent me three gooseberries that flopped in one hand like dead mice, and a half-dozen roses that went straight down to Davy Jones in the first week. Being cheap sure cost me alot. Order from some place with a reputation, like Raintree.

Last spring (2002) I ordered a gooseberry, an apple and a
plum. I changed my mind on the apple variety and they were
good about altering my order. They arrived really close
to when specified (I'm in Oregon)
The gooseberry was small but well-branched, the apple and
plum good-sized (larger than the ones from Burnt Ridge).
The gooseberry died from borers duing the summer and they
sent a replacement without giving me any problem. I'd love
to order again from them but they are kind of expensive...

We ordered a few dozen of several fruiting bush varieties last year (2002) for ourselves and friends. Everyone was satisfied with the bare root plants, which are doing just fine. Their information/planting guide accompanying the order was of use too, as was the detailed catalogue. We plan on continuing doing business with these helpful folks.

Just received my 3 fruit trees from this nursery. All three -- especially the combo cherry -- were well rooted and healthy looking. The cardboard box they came in was slightly crushed (by the carrier, I guess), but the plants were packed intelligently enough, so the plants were not damaged. I've just planted them, and if there are problems, I'll write back.

My experience was mainly positive, with some reservations.

I ordered a fig from them last year that I couldn't find elsewhere, plus a couple of other little things to round out my order. I wasn't crazy about the way they stuffed all three plants into the same packing bag/envelope, but the only thing that was actually damaged was a rasberry cane, and I figure they're not too delicate. The fig was a very nice size, but the rose and raspberry were basically rooted cuttings or whips--I didn't mind too much, as they were sort of afterthought plants on my part. What bothered me a little more was that they also ignored my requested shipping date by several weeks (as did other West Coast nurseries that are usually timely in such matters)--maybe it was the weather). By the time I got my "dormant shipped" plants, my shortish midwest season was well underway, and some of the plants took something like a month to break dormancy. It eventually did, about five minutes before I decided it was most certainly dead, and it ended up with a very healthy root system to boot. Nevertheless, I don't really like the dormant shipping system all that much. Still, I feel they're reputable, honest in their description of service, the plants seem perfectly happy, and I would probably order from Raintree again if they had something I really wanted.

Great nursery to order from. No problems at all. Also a great nursery to visit if you are ever in the area. Very good selection of sometimes unusual or different nursery stock.

Customer service e-mails reminders re expected delivery date are very helpful. I received a blueberry plant last week that was three times the size I expected and very healthy (I only live about 60 miles from Raintree, though). They are only one of two companies in the U.S. where I could find two of the three varieties of the easy-care cherry (Prunus) shrubs. Also, the catalog is very informative.

Lovely, responsive staff. Excellent information in the catalog and by email. Good quality plants. They recommended early, mid-season and late blueberries for my hedge so I'd have color and fruit all season.

I've placed numerous orders with Raintree, and never been disappointed. Granted, the plants are only traveling within the same state to reach me, but the fruit trees I've purchased from them are larger and better developed than the few I've purchased elsewhere, so even if they'd traveled to the other side of the country they would have started out in better condition. When a mini-dwarf apple tree died almost a year after I'd purchased it, Raintree replaced it immediately. I wish they sold more ornamentals, because I'll buy from them before almost any other nursery I've done business with if given the chance.

I have placed four orders with Raintree this year. All have been shipped on time. The trees and berries are doing fine. Customer service is excellent. Both email and phone contacts solved any questions. Excellent website and paper catalog.

First, I've never met these people (they are left coast I am right coast), but from their catalog you have to really like them. They are one of 2 major nurseries out west I have ordered from. Raintree's plants live more than a month. Excellent selection of natives and plants arrive in really good condition. Had an e-mail question prior to placing an order and received a satisfactory answer. Also, they allowed me to amend my order by e-mail.

I've ordered from Raintree on a couple of occasions and, considering the fact that the plants travel from west coast to east coast, the plants have always arrived in great condition. Everything I've ordered from them has survived with the exception of a few items which just couldn't adapt to the heavy clay soil in my yard. I love their catalog and wish I had room for more of their trees and shrubs.

I would like to highly recommend this nursery. The plants were shipped in a timely fashion. The plants were all in excellent condition. I purchased a pear tree (on sale), which began budding within a few days of planting it!! Their catalog is very interesting and has a number of unique and unusual plants. I give them 5 stars!!

I just bought two strawberry planters and two bundles of the Tri-Star strawberries, one for grandma and one for myself. I mentioned this in the gift note to her. About a half hour after I placed my order, Raintree Nursery called me to ask about my message and if I wanted half of it shipped to me. I was very impressed. I placed the order on Wednesday and she just received it Saturday. Since the nursery is in WA and I'm in OH, I was again impressed at the speediness. I haven't gone and looked at the planters yet, but I'm sure they are high quality. I am going to highly recommend Raintree Nursery to my family and friends. The lady that called me was very friendly and seemed eager to help any way possible. I consider this a first rate company.

One of my favorite sources. I've ordered something from them every year for the past 6-7 years. Every plant has been great. Wonderful service, interesting catalog, fair prices, freebies, extras. The one problem with mail-order is that you have to take what you get, whereas in a nursery, I can pick and choose the best-shaped, most appealing individual plant. ALL of Raintree's plants have been wonderfully grown, undamaged, well-shaped, attractive, healthy, and BIG. Definitely a lot of plant for your buck, even including the shipping all the way across the country. Even my husband (long-suffering spouse of gardening fanatic) likes dealing with these nice folks.

I'd like to say Raintree does do a great job shipping to the Midwest! I received beautiful roses and some raspberries from them and they were well-packaged and incredibly strong plants - great company!

I have done business with Raintree for years. Most plants are top quality and shipped well-packaged. On the rare occasion that there has been a problem, they have replaced the plant or refunded the purchase without question. Their selection is excellent, and they grow a fair amount of their materials. This is a top-notch specialty grower and retailer.

Raintree Nursery is a great source for fruits,nuts, berries, bamboo, and fruit tree rootstock. This is the best source of edible landscaping plants and unusual fruits I have found.I have ordered from Raintree for five years now and I am VERY satisfied with the quality of the plants, advice, and availability. I consistentlyget large vigorous plants. Occasionally one plant will not survive being mailed. I have never had ANY problem getting a replacement when this happens. Raintree is great for advice. The emphasis is on getting the customer what they need. I have never been sold some gadget I don't need. I also appreciate being able to speak to a very helpful horticulturalist five days a week. Their catalog now contains color pictures and lots of good information and advice. I keep the catalogs because they contain more information on planting, propagating, maintenance, etc than my Sunset Western Garden Book. I recommend Raintree Nursery without reservation.

My husband and I order a lot of edible landscaping plants, seeds, and bulbs from catalogs. We order from several, including Raintree Nursery.

Raintree nursery stands out in my book as one of the most excellent of mail order companies. I recently placed an order with them and had the product in my possession within 48 hours! The order was 100% correct and the quality and price of goods was superb (six trees and six shrubs for $127, including shipping). I would (and already have) recommend them to any of my friends. Not only is their product great, but the catalog that they provide is loaded with information, thus making it very helpful for selecting the appropriate plants for my climate and needs.

This spring I ordered plants from two nurseries, different species, both large growing, suitable for my zone 6 climate, both of them should normally ship similar plants. The price for each was similar. The plant from Raintree Nursery, had growth about five feet, was potted up and has made excellent growth, several, at least three feet. It will be perfectly safe for me to plant this out any time now, and with good mulch I will feel safe that it will survive the first winter. Due to the habit of bamboo, I am a good two years ahead with the fine plant from Raintree, and although both plants are relatively costly, I got something for my money from Raintree. Thanks for your information, and keep up the good work.

I ordered three different varieties of Fargesia bamboo this year. Each gallon container was about $25. East coast suppliers charge almost twice as much for these varieties in the same size container.

A 70 page newsprint catalog. No pictures, a few sketches. Looks like they sell perennials only, and seem to publish different catalogs for different areas (mine was specific to Northern CA). I bought strawberries, raspberries, a kiwi, 3 different kinds of grapes, and an almond. I was very happy with the quality of the stock -- big hardy plants with good roots, 100% survival. [update 11/1998]I just found your site, and was surprised that I had apparently found you some time ago…All my stock from Raintree has done great. The raspberries are trying to take over the world. The Asian pears are 4 feet tall and loaded with fruit in their second year, astounding!

Raintree is far, far, more than fruit trees. It is a catalogue of edible landscaping plants, from wintergreen to bamboo, with notations on the hardiness and flavor of various varieties of each plant. Not surprisingly, they specialize in plants for the Pacific NW, but give adequate notes on hardiness in other locations. I haven't ordered from them, so I can't speak for plant condition, but their catalog has the tone of a company that wants you to get the right plant for you, not every plant they sell. They advertise an advice number, and include little informational boxes on various subjects (for example, how to keep bamboo from taking over your yard, etc.)
