Posted on March 9, 2023, updated March 9, 2023 Posted on March 7, 2023, updated March 9, 2023 I've been doing this a looooong time. I ordered 5 asparagus seed packs from Ritchie's feed and seed and not one single asparagus came up. Not one. Now I have seed from Rainbow seeds that I was worried about because I've had them for over a season, but it looks like they all came up, beside the Weston seeds on the same tray, in the exact same conditions. Ritchie's were lovely and offered to replace in a super polite way ( which I declined because it's not their fault). I sent an email warning Weston seeds (not asking for anything), proceeded to send me growing instructions. I mean come on. I told them I am a market gardener , I do this for a living, I have been doing this for years, and they still thought it a good idea to send sowing instructions, no apologies, no anything. I told them that they were rude and condescending that the pictures of the other seeds in the same tray as the Weston seeds were pretty telling and that something must have happened. They told me they test all seeds , that they are professionals and to call customer service. Ya , no thanks, I just won't ever buy or recommend your seeds anywhere ( because, as it turns out, I also give courses and talks, oh well, I guess I am still too novice to know how to start your seeds) NEVER AGAIN

You know what they say about people that assume. This conversation will be forwarded to Ritchie’s as well as posted to Dave’s garden , where I am , in fact, a confirmed customer/reviewer. Hello, Thank you for your prompt reply! It would be prudent to place a voice to your extensive email before Weston Seeds writes a reply to your review. We kindly ask again you call us at 905 264-6677 (9am-4pm) If we do not talk to you directly we will assume you are one of many spoof online pests. --- Thank you, Weston Seeds Co. I originally emailed your company to let you know about a faulty seed lot as a courtesy from another seed grower. Your seed have yet to produce asparagus meanwhile the seedlings produced by way of another source of seed are going into the greenhouse shortly to continue to put on some size before heading to the nursery beds. These were tray mates to Weston’s faulty seed. I believe these seeds must have gotten very very hot at some point, perhaps in storage, perhaps in transport, who could say? Freezing wouldn’t explain this. I ordered the seeds in January and they came straight through carrier from Ritchie’s to my door and got planted within the week. Your customer service was abysmal. I spent 1486$ in seeds alone this year. Over the 3+ decades that I have been market/gardening, I have bought seeds from all over Canada and the USA. This was the worst germination and some of the worst service I have encountered. I am set to speak at the local high school as well as the horticultural society in the coming months the first amidst other speaking engagements this Season I am sure. I will be recommending seed houses based on seed germination, variety and customer service of course. Bad germination can happen, it’s about how you deal with it and your customer just as much as seed germination. In any case, you should treat your customers with a better tone and respect. I fail to understand why you would want to send a representative to my farm. How very patriarchal to think that one of your representatives could perhaps instruct this poor female farmer on how to obtain better results. The lack of germination of 5 packs of seed and your poor customer relations does not warrant Weston sending a rep to my farm. Again, it was 5 packs of seed. I need not show you my operation or how I farm or justify or prove anything to your company nor do I want to discuss this any further. That’s an odd offer and, honestly, it’s just about as condescending as the first reply. If this was not your intention, perhaps you should rethink your offer’s formulation as this is very much how it sounds to myself and my husband. Let me help you: I bought a large variety of seed garlic last year from another Ontario farmer. One of the varieties was moldy/signs of disease and obviously unsuitable to plant, it had to be destroyed. I pre-emptively took pictures of said garlic , emailed the farmer, for which she offered me a credit ( as it was too late in the Season to replace) or a refund. I took neither. The farmer thanked me for bringing this to her attention. It happens. She did not argue with me or make excuses or try to come visit my property to see how I plant my garlic. She just thanked me for letting her know and apologized for the disappointment/inconvenience. That’s how customer service works. So there , now Weston has been schooled in customer service. You’re welcome. I was a paying customer and your products failed. End of story.
