Notes

The spring season has wrapped up and Leafari has closed its doors.

In the best of times, horticulture businesses are challenging. Harsh weather, live/perishable products, pests/diseases, shipping challenges and seasonal staffing intricacies add to all the usual business complexities. This spring’s pandemic has been brutal for many plant companies, forcing a number of specialty growers and their partners out of business.

Leafari is among the little companies that will not be back next season.

Thank you for your support. Stay safe, be well and keep growing!

I bought achimenes rhizomes from Jill via Etsy. After just a few weeks I noticed the bulbs were dried out and useless. I messaged her promptly, she answered they were dormant or something. Dormant must mean dead, I guess. My order was almost $40.00 usd and I don’t even have one plant to show for it. I tried messaging her again and she closed her shop on Etsy and the website. So yes, I do feel cheated.

We’ve ordered dahlias from this company (this year crocosmia & double oriental lilies as well). Their dahlias have been stunning (especially the ‘Cafe au Lait’ series & related varieties. Huge dinner plate sized flowers on bushy, healthy plants). This year we ordered double oriental lilies ‘Roselily’; we potted them up in a warm greenhouse & they were off-type & mislabeled (they turned out to be a peculiar amber & bronze orienpet; not really attractive; I gave them away!) & not at all what I ordered. I don’t have a good photo of them to send to the company because they ‘went by’ before we could get a good photo. Amber & bronze in a lily looks generally “brown” in the landscape. I was surprised that those whom I gave them to even wanted them. Anyway, clearly it was an issue w/their supplier which I will address w/the company. However, at the moment their website no longer exists!! I’m sad if they had to close & were a victim of the virus related business & health crisis. I’m not sure if they will return(?). Anyway, internet searches for Leafari yield nothing [error messages & ‘buy a domain name’ ads]; not a good sign. Maybe someone from the company can give an update on their status in this website.

Posted on May 7, 2020, updated May 7, 2020 I ordered several tubers and, as I had 250 tubers in my stock it took a while to check them all. I was two days past her week to inspect for return. Things have been crazy with the virus plus I just had to put one of my horses to sleep and I lost a few days on that. when I contacted her due to one of my tubers being dried up and dead she told me too bad your past your return date and you sent no picture. No return accepted. I will never purchase from her again.

Ordered a bunch of fragrant flowers, including peonies, phlox, lily of the valley, lilac, and some dahlias. Everything came in a timely manner and looked quite healthy on arrival. Lilac came in a little pot and was very bouncy and green. A couple weeks later, peonies are already poking out of the soil and several of the lily of the valleys are in full bloom. I had some questions prior and they were very professional, prompt, and courteous when answering me. I could not be happier!

I ordered several dahlia tubers from them. On their website for each dahlia it clearly states that each tuber is “multi-eyed”. When the tubers arrived not a single one of them actually had any eyes. At this point I decided to not make a big deal. Fast forward roughly a month later, and still none of the tubers have eyes. It is now a the point that I’m not a happy customer. I contacted them for a refund, and they kept saying that on another part of their website it shows in detail how their dahlias are stored so they don’t grow any eyes until their customer receives them. This completely contradicts what they say on each of their individual pages for each tuber. Overall, would not recommend them. This scenario is misadvertising at its finest. They won’t acknowledge the fact that they say two complete opposite statements regarding their dahlia tubers on different pages of their website. It’s one problem to misadvertise, but it’s another when their product doesn’t even grow. I’ve asked for a refund, and they simply stick their nose up.

On May 31, 2019 3:34 PM, Leafari responded with:

Leafari is a small company, staffed by reasonable people. We have communicated promptly and politely with this customer, providing extensive answers to questions and information addressing her concerns. As we do not respond to demands and threats, there is little value to further discussions.

As always, we stand by our products, information and guarantee, and are happy to work with our customers to support their gardening success.

Leafari has some rhizomes that I haven't found elsewhere. They arrived in great condition and look healthy. Customer service is outstanding! There was an error during shipment that was tracked down to an issue with USPS, but Lefari went above and beyond to correct the problem.

I ordered dahlia tubers from several places this year and the ones from Leafari was by far the best. They were firm with very few broken necks. They were packaged very carefully with bubble wrap to protect the tubers from breaking. I would definitely recommend ordering from this company.

Everything from the quality of their products to their customer service above average. i tried their Imperialis Dahlia and it grew to 18 feet the first year! Amazing. Customer service went out of their way to handle my issue. i left a voice mail and received a call back the same day. What a pleasure!

Absolutely love this company - the plants and the helpful advice are outstanding. I also appreciate looking at the photos to give me a better perspective on what the plant or flower will look like. Wisconsin has a relatively short growing period so its imperative that I start with strong healthy plants. I’ve never been disappointed.

Outstanding experience, just had to write and say thanks to Leafari. Customer service was amazing, friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and lightning fast in replacing one item that did not grow. I received 8 good looking dahlia tubers and got excellent advice for checking on one that did not seem to be growing. Then the very same day I called, a replacement was mailed for one that had not sprouted, and I received it today, only to find that Jill, the lovely customer service rep, had added an extra tuber just in case the one that was slow to grow did not make it. Can't get better than that, I will definitely keep Leafari at the top of my list when it's time to order again.

I received my order from this company about a week ago. I ordered Dahlias and Scadoxus bulbs. Prices and shipping were reasonable and the quality of the product was very high. I will use them again and highly recommend Them to others.

Ordered 8 amaryllis bulbs from this company and was delighted by the quality, careful packing and the shipping speed. Received in just 4 days. Also, had a question and the woman who answered the phone was knowledgeable and helpful. Can't wait to see these amaryllis in full bloom!

Leafari.... Wow, what's not to love about this company? Their website is fabulous, my order of Oriental lilies was sent immediately, and the bulbs are healthy and impressive! Packing was carefully done and very secure, as well. I'm thrilled that I stumbled upon this company and will continue to order from them.

The dahlias I received from this company are sprouting well and look healthy. Bleeding heart plants are also coming up. All good so far. Had a question before ordering and got a helpful, complete answer. Good shopping experience.

Just got the ruffled begonia bulbs ordered last week. Huge, pudgy and looking ready to grow (one has a just-starting sprout). The glad bulbs are the largest I've ever seen anywhere - heavy and firm. And the hostas have 4-5 good size eyes each and nice big roots. They're going in the ground this afternoon. Very please to have found this company. Need to get these plants going and then I'm heading back to their website for more. It's going to be a great gardening season!
