I’ve been ordering here for a number of years. They have great quality plants. I’m always amazed by the fantastic shape and size of the plants I get from them. I’ve personally had very good communication from this company. I’ve inquired in the past about a couple of plants and they were quick to get back to me with information. I personally appreciate that have plant information listed as a reference even when they’re not carrying all those plants. The website is clear that they aren’t necessarily carrying all those plants. I’d contact them ahead of time before showing up with a list. They’ll let you know what they have.

Sent these folks two emails recently with questions about a couple of their plants. They never bothered to reply to either. I would not order from any business that has so little regard for their customers.

I can't say enough good things about Broken Arrow! It's almost comical how often I discover a new and interesting plant online only to find that Broken Arrow is the only place IN THE COUNTRY that has it. I could list the number of times this has happened, but I won't bore you with the details. Nurseries dedicated to rare and unusual plants are few and far between, and Broken Arrow really takes this mission to heart. This is a nursery that you really have to visit in-person. While they do have many plants for sale online, the biggest, best, and funkiest plants are only available at the nursery itself. Plants are generally healthy and well cared for, and the staff is attentive and helpful. If you're travelling from a distance, it's best to send an email or give them a call beforehand to make sure they have what you want. The website lists everything they've ever sold and is a useful reference, but should not be taken as a list of plants available at the nursery. Some plants don't arrive until July, so keep checking back. The grounds are beautiful, well-maintained, and a pleasure to walk, and don't forget to visit in the Winter to pick up some of the nicest wreaths and Christmas trees in the area! Broken Arrow definitely sits at the top of my list of favorite nurseries in Connecticut.

This is a small nursery that seems to be having problems, perhaps because their head propagator left. My issue with Broken Arrow if their rather deceptive web site. When you go to their site you will see "our Plants, clicking this gives pages of wonderful plants. For many, if you click the photo your get a page of information and the statement "Most items are available at the nursery in a range of sizes. Stop by to select your own or contact us for availability." So I did, I had a list of plants and went to the nursery as directed. They had none. I was told by a woman who had little customer service skilled, that that was a listing of all the plants they carry or have carried. It had no relationship with what they do carry and many on my list she told me that had not carried for years. For that she curtly told me, you have to look at "Pant List (PDF)." I think it is deceptive to list plants by photos and the tell potential customers to "Stop by to select your own" when many of the plants they have not had in stock for years.

Posted on August 31, 2017, updated August 31, 2017 Posted on May 19, 2017, updated August 31, 2017 Purchased a tree rated at zone 5 on their website. Tree died during the winter, so was obviously not a zone 5. They refused to do anything, and took no responsibility for their faulty posting. Would not do business with again.

On August 31st, 2017, Canarykeeper added the following: They also listed a Variegated Mulberry tree as zone 5. It also died during the winter. Everyone else lists it as zone 6 or 7. Again, this company makes excuses. They need to check planting zones better. And there is also zone 5a and 5b. 5b will not survive a 5a winter. My fault for trusting them. Never again, as they don't really have a guarantee.
On August 31st, 2017, Canarykeeper added the following: And now they have the paper dolls mulberry tree as a zone 4. And to add to my previous post, I planted the trees in the fall because the company did not have them for sale until then. They were in the ground about 1 month before winter set in. And I can't report them dead until the following Sping (7 months later). And they question that? Unbelievable! And they gave themselves a positive rating here. And I don't have rodents here because of the outdoor cats. IA is known for its soil, so not a problem either. Plenty of rain/snow the entire winter. I protected both trees with lots of mulch and burlap, and the winter got down to -18 F. Trees died due to the cold. The end.

I haven't been able to get set up as a company representative yet, but here's a response to the previous post (Canarykeeper): The tree purchased was a cultivar of Cornus florida, so certainly zone 5. Other factors not taken into account in the review include but are not limited to: soil acidity, soil type, soil moisture, vole, mole or other pest damage, planting depth, and planting timing. A photograph was not provided to help determine what factors may have played a role. Our guarantee states, "...that all plants sold by Broken Arrow Nursery are healthy and true to name when they leave the nursery. Please contact us within 5 days of the receipt of your order if such is not the case. If we are at fault we will replace the plant in question or issue a nursery credit for the purchase price of the plant. We are unable to guarantee plants that are improperly cared for after delivery.” We received no communication from the customer until eight months after purchase.

Fabulous plants, top notch packing and shipping, and excellent personalized customer support from Adam Wheeler. My Aralia "Silver Umbrellas', Sambucus "Black Tower" and 2 "Empress Wu" hostas are all thriving with vigor. Thank you.

I am very pleased with the quality of plants I just received. I thought the prices were reasonable. I would recommend them. Just an aside as to my personal situation, I have all my plants shipped to a PO box business. I would have appreciated a heads up that the plants were coming but fortunately I was picking up some other plants the same day and saw their box.

I have purchased from this nursery onsite and not online. The people were efficient, friendly, knowledgeable, and very helpful. They carry many superb rarities which I can find nowhere else. The nursery was well organized, the plants in excellent health, and weeds are well controlled. They also have a great many of their rarities planted in the landscape, so you can see more mature specimens. A superb place to buy plants!

We wish we lived near Broken Arrow Nursery-although that might be dangerous because we'd NEVER stop buying plants! They have an amazing online selection of really unique specimans! We have bought ALOT of stuff from this nursery and all but one plant thrived from the get-go. The other was promptly replaced and that little tree is now doing quite well! Customer service is important and we feel they do an excellent job! We will most DEFINITELY be ordering from them again in the future!

A plant collector's dream! A great selection of unusual plants, superb packaging, and fast shipping make this company really stand out. As long as I find room in the garden, I will purchase plants from here again!

My plants were of exceptional quality- much larger than I expected and in excellent health. Roots were just right and not rootbound but filled out nicely. Service was excellent too and Adam answered my questions promptly and was very professional and that is very important ot me. I will be definitely ordering again.

Great plants. Plants were not at all root bound, which is very very unusual. Everything was very healthy and well cared for. shipping was far more reasonable than some others. LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS AND LOTS OF RARITIES. The one mild complaint I have, was there wasn't a shipment notification. Received a acknowledgement of order and then nothing else. I will certainly be looking to them in the future.

This is my first order with this nursery but it certainly will not be my last. The plants I received were magnificent; large and well rooted. Definitely a 'go to' nursery for the unusual in woody plants.

Just wanted to submit a long overdue positive note regarding Broken Arrow and the plants I've received the previous two years. All plant material ordered has thrived since planting, with the mountain laurel, in particular, being well-formed and substantial. Thank you Dr. Jaynes and the rest of the staff!

I consider myself lucky in that I can stop by this nursery any day riding home from work. Certainly for woody plants they are the best source in Connecticut. There are fewer perennials but you are sure to find something interesting. This year they had a superb offering of Cypripedium and Disporum for example. Although the prices have gone up over the years (they used to have many items dirt cheap), you still get great value for your $$$. There is nothing else like this in the area. If you like variegated plants, Rhododendrons, Kalmias, Ilex, and Conifers (to name but a few of their specialties), be prepared to be shattered and then reconstructed. Kudos to Andy, Carl, and Dick for a remarkable nursery!

Posted on March 23, 2006, updated October 19, 2010 I've had many great experiences with these folks and I will not hesitate to drive 3 or more hours to purchase (at this point) thousands of dollars worth of plants from them for my clients. The quality of materials is amazing. The customer service here is unbeatable: very, very helpful, friendly, patient, knowledgeable, fun. The prices are very good, sometimes great. And, it's wonderful to see so many of their unusual offerings planted throughout their gardens. They're one of my staples. Period.

On October 18th, 2010, steve1young added the following: I continue to be a loyal customer and for the very good reasons listed here. If you appreciate great quality, service, selection, prices, and so much more then you have to visit Broken Arrow Nursery. It's like going to an amusement park for gardeners!

The staff at broken arrow are very well versed in the best plants for any conditions. They take the time to advise you on what plant/shrub/tree is best for your sun level, soil condition and vission of your garden. When I started going there 3 years ago I had little or no background in gardening. At that time they were patient and helped my education. Now that I am a mid level gardener they address my questions with the same care, but reflect my new concers. They have a stunning variety of shade shrubs and hard to find trees.

Broken Arrow has some incredibly rare plants for the collector. They are very helpful and will take the time to tell you about their plants, some of which are very difficult to find any information on because they are so rare. The plants they shipped were healthy and well packaged. Many of the plants they ship are 1 year cuttings or grafts, so do not expect huge plants. One of the plants they sent had a rather weak root system and they did not hesitate to send a replacement when it was brought to their attention. I would definitely recommend them.

I purchased a number of Kalmia liners....they were healthy and settled in nicely to my hilly yard. ..The Nursery had a very nice selection of many other woody plants and perennials. The ones I purchased were likewise excellent. Their online catalog notes that they are offering a limited number of plants via mailorder this year!

Extremely knowledgeable about Mountain Laurel...They literally wrote the book! Plants very good quality, excellent planting directions. It's well worth visiting their site during their open house.

Toured this nursery recently. A good place to buy from. Selection is very good, quality is very good, and prices are good or very good. If you can possibly visit, it's absolutely worth it. So wonderful to see the cultivars you are interested in actually planted in permanent settings! The people are very helpful, also.

Broken Arrow was the only mail order nursery to stock the very unusual variety of stewartia I have been seeking. For this I tip my hat in their direction. The price is very fair and their response very quick. Only complaint is that I requested a later ship date, but I can let that go if the plant survives.
