I had a bad experience with this company. Matt Miller was my point of contact and he was very discouraging, talking about how impossible it was to grow fly traps. I pointed out to him that his site's guide says it is easy. He immediately stopped responding. Not sure why he was so negative, but I definitely will look elsewhere.

This person has never placed an order with us, never indicated that he intended to (outside of wholesale, which we haven't ever done -- we are a retail store), and never asked any explicit questions in his emails. No response was required, thus there was no response to his emails. The fact that he would leave a review here after exchanging two emails with no business taking place, seems to allude to deeper issues that have nothing to with our store.

Wow. This is definitely the creme of the crop when it comes to ordering Venus flytraps, and I am usually reserved about my opinions. I ordered one starter sized "Spider" Venus flytrap and was shipped six "Spider" Venus flytraps and two were even bigger than the starter size I ordered. Matt is incredibly easy to contact and get a hold of unlike other online Venus flytrap stores. Everything is really well priced and you get the exact type of plant you buy. All of the messages I messaged Matt on the Flytrapcare website he replied to within 10 minutes every time. If you're looking to buy Venus flytraps this is where it's at. I can't believe there are any negative reviews on here.

I tend to be more inclined to write bad reviews than good ones because you don't really know a vendor until something goes wrong. However, I was so happy with the sun pitchers I ordered from this vendor that I decided to go ahead and do a positive review. I ordered a small sun pitcher and got five small sun pitchers. They arrived quickly and in good shape. They needed no rehabilitation at all. On the other hand, nothing went wrong with my order so I can't speak to customer service. Flytrapstore.com has earned my repeat business and I sincerely hope that they continue to so. It was a good experience.

I have placed multiple orders with Flytrapstore.com. I have this to say regarding those transactions: Other companies, plant related or not, should take notes from FTS. Great business to deal with- they ship out fast, plants are always top quality. I don't think I have ever had a problem which I can attribute to the business. They include instructions with their orders (at least the ones I have placed which were all for bare root venus flytraps), they also include custom plant tags which is a brilliant move in my opinion. Packaging is awesome and one thing I really appreciate is they don't pull any inflated shipping cost nonsense like many of the other plant vendors online. Overall, they are an excellent resource.

Not a pleasant experience at all. Vendor advertises STERILE tissue cultures and then advises that most are actually contaminated after payment has been captured. Flytrapcare store does not follow Card Acceptance Guidelines for Visa and MasterCard Merchants regarding Delayed Delivery and/or Delivery of Goods and Services when capturing payment. Instead of debiting at time of shipping or requesting a deposit for Delayed Delivery, funds are drawn immediately leaving the customer waiting for up to 16 weeks to receive an order that has already been paid for which makes it difficult to make a claim if required. In my case 6 to 8 weeks was stated as the preparation time, this became 12 weeks. After the 12 weeks and as many emails enquiring about the delay I was informed that some items ordered and paid for were not available while the rest were not sterile as advertised. Although USPS Priority International which becomes Xpresspost with tracking on arrival in Canada was stated as the mode of delivery the order was sent by inferior Priority International flat rate which takes longer to deliver as it is no more than regular parcel post sans tracking. No instructions were included with delivery and after the cultures began to die a couple of days from receipt I was informed only after another enquiring email to Flytrapcare that the cultures should have been processed on delivery. Vendor offered replacements only if I made another purchase, paid in advance and waited another 8 - 12 weeks. When the Merchant Card Acceptance Guidelines were brought to his attention he replied with "I suggest that we terminate this transaction/relationship. Feel free to take your business elsewhere."

Despite efforts to keep all cultures sterile, at times cultures can become contaminated, but this has never been a concern for customers, because sterility does not affect the plants' ability to grow well once in soil. Sterility of cultures has no effect on plants that are directly potted into growing medium, which is the intended use of these plants by all of our other customers. In fact, this is the only customer out of the many dozens of international customers to place an order last year, to whom sterility was a concern, because this individual wished to do further tissue culture propagation with the cultures. I let this customer know that some of the cultures that he ordered were no longer sterile, and I offered to cancel the order and refund the customer's money if he wasn't comfortable with this. He declined this offer and was aware that he was receiving some sterile cultures and some that were not, writing me to say, "What the heck Matt, send them all. I can propagate the clean stuff and get the others planted out for my personal collection."

One week after he received the cultures, he contacted me and let me know that the plants were still in their containers and appeared to be declining. I then advised him that the plants could die if they weren't removed from their containers immediately after receipt, which I had anticipated he would have already known, because this particular customer (TCPro) runs his own tissue culture lab. I had anticipated that due to his experience, he would know about how to handle sterile cultures, and that no instructions were needed in his case. Nevertheless, I do take responsibility for not including an instruction sheet, and I apologized to him, explaining that I had not anticipated that he would need instructions, due to his experience working with cultures. Instructions are also always readily available on the FlytrapStore website:
http://www.flytrapcare.com/store/about-sterile-cultures

In regards to shipping, there is no difference between USPS Priority International and USPS Priority International Flat Rate, other than the type of box used. All USPS Priority International and USPS Priority International Flat Rate shipments have the same estimated delivery time and have a tracking number that tracks the package all the way to delivery. My experience with this store was absolutely great! I have ordered carnivorous plants from about 4 or 5 different sources now and i can easily say this store was the best one that i received plants from. Not only does this store have their own special forms of the venus flytrap you cant find anywhere else the shipping was also fast and the packaging was the best i have seen still. They also gave me a free plant! i received a smaller plant of the same type as the larger one that i ordered both of which looked great! The larger plant was much bigger than i had anticipated because the website had listed them as "young plants". I would definitely recommend this store to anyone who asks and i will also be ordering more from them in the future.

I've ordered from them more than 5 times and their shipping is fast (3 days normally) and their plants are excellently packed, the plants are far better than what you'd get any other site out there. Lovebrug must have a personal vandetta or something. I've never had a problem in over 2yrs of ordering

They have a superior website that features care pages as well as a forum all linked to the store. They have superior packing as well as turn around time from the minute your order is placed. Unfortunately my experience is the product received is inferior compared to the other carnivorous plant nursery's I ordered from this spring with a total of four vendors. I received plants barely out of tissue culture and recent divisions that were half white and a potted Ceph that had just been re-potted from FlyTrapStore.com when I posted pictures of said plants on their forum I was quickly flamed by their staunch followers and then baned forever. FTS refunded one plant on the order and sent me a degrading condescending E-mail . Thanks FTS you think maybe some store credit and a promise to do better in the future would have been more appropriate ? Also FTS has a customer rating system apparently my ratings for their plants will never show up.

LoveBrug initially expressed discontent with a single product in a multi-product order. Soon, after a few email exchanges, his discontent mysteriously ballooned into being unhappy with everything in his order.

We were in the process of working out a resolution when he took the matter public on the FlytrapCare forums. He didn't receive any support from the forum members and soon became abrasive, belligerent and attacking toward other forum members. He was banned because of his treatment of other members by one of the moderators on the FlytrapCare forum not affiliated in any way with the FlytrapStore.

LoveBrug's statement about the plants being "inferior" to other vendors is unfounded. I've not seen a side-by-side comparison of any of the plants he ordered from us compared directly to the same plant (clone and size) from another carnivorous plant (CP) vendor. I too have ordered from almost every CP vendor on the web, multiple times at that. When we ship plants, we always ensure that they're of superior quality. We take pride in growing the healthiest flytraps that can be purchased online. A quick glance through our product reviews or customer testimonials will back that up:
http://www.flytrapcare.com/store/customer-testimonials

As for the statement about the plants being "barely out of tissue culture and recent divisions" that is speculation and completely wrong. All of our plants go through several months (usually 2 to 3 months, but sometimes as long as 6 months during the winter) of growing under artificial lights to harden them off out of tissue culture. Then, they are grown in greenhouse conditions for at least 2 months, usually longer, before being introduced to full sun and then being offered for sale after they are fully hardened. In fact, LoveBrug placed his order on April 13th, before we even started taking tissue culture plants into the greenhouse this year. So all of the plants he received in his order had been growing in the greenhouse since September 2011 and were well hardened.

The "half white" that LoveBrug uses to describe the flytraps is normal. Any flytrap, when uprooted, will have a white rhizome (if it's healthy). When repotted, often times part of the plant that was previously shaded or under ground, especially around the growing crown where the leaves had been growing densely together and shading each other from sunlight, will be white until it gets tanned by the sun. This shows LoveBrug's lack of experience with growing these plants and perhaps the reason that he doesn't recognize healthy plants when he sees them.

The potted Cephalotus he received had been re-potted 3 months earlier, not just before shipment as he asserts. All of his feedback was based on incorrect assumptions, and for this reason his ratings/reviews were never published in the store.

And as for the "degrading condescending E-mail" (according to him) that LoveBrug received went something like this: "We have issued you a refund for the plants you initially expressed you were unhappy with. However, we feel that all of the plants sent in your order were of appropriate size, as described on the product page, and extremely healthy. Should you expect different results than your previous order when ordering from FlytrapStore in the future, we highly suggest you order elsehwere." We certainly didn't intend that response to be degrading nor condescending and don't see how one could perceive it as so. It is matter of fact and simply a way for us to handle someone that isn't happy with our plants, which almost never happens. We've sent out well over 4000 orders now since we opened FlytrapStore nearly 4 years ago (and that doesn't include the 100% positive feedback for all of our 350+ eBay transactions), with only a handful (perhaps 4 or 5) problems, and this is actually the first unhappy customer with whom we've not been able to reach any sort of resolution.

This is THE store to go to for all of your carnivorous plant needs. Whatever specimens they offer, they are simply amazing. I recently ordered a Cephalotus, and it arrived promptly and well-packed-- along with care instructions, a personalized note on the packing slip, and a plant that is still in incredible condition despite going through the postal system. The plants aren't just mailed in good condition-- the plants themselves are spectacular. They're beautiful. If I could, I would get all of my CP's from this store, if they only had every CP variety in existence. No other place I've ever bought from has come close to this-- out of all the other plants I've acquired over the years, none of them were in as good condition when I bought them (in person) as these were when I received them by mail. As another reviewer said, you can't go wrong with FTS. I wholeheartedly agree!

I have ordered from several different online Flytrap retailers, as well as purchasing a few plants locally from both large hardware stores and smaller garden centers. My experience, without a doubt, points to Flytrapstore.com providing the best plants with excellent customer service. Every plant that I have received from Matt and Steve of Flytrapstore.com has exceeded my expectations. Couple that with excellent customer service (emails are usually answered within 12 hours, my order invoices almost always come with a hand written note), and you have the best online flytrap retailer out there. After experiencing the excellent plants and service offered by Flytrapstore.com I will not even consider another retailer unless I want a plant that is not offered at this store.

I have ordered several times from Flytrapstore.com and every single time my plants were far more spectacular than expected. My orders are always shipped and received in a very timely manner. All my plants have shown up in extremely healthy conditions ( around 25 plants) and looking amazing. All my plants grew healthy after transportation and transplanting. Their Maroon Monster is my favorite out of all my plants I own. I have ordered from three different online stores and none of them could hold a candle to my plants from flytrapstore.com. I also purchased about 160 flytrap seeds from them last year and I planted around 120 of them this year. After six months in the refrigerator they have almost all sprouted. I would say about 99 percent of them have sprouted in less than 3 weeks. Here are some photos of three of my plants on the day of arrival //i.imgur.com/UvQN8.jpg

This is the only site I would order carnivorous plants from, especially if you are an avid Venus Fly Trap collector. Matt, Steve and Leah are prompt, knowledgeable and TRUSTWORTHY. The best part of receiving an order from FTS is a hand written note on the packing slip, addressing me by name. I observed this to be a charming, personal impression. You cannot go wrong with FTS! Posted on May 2, 2012, updated May 2, 2012 I've ordered from the Flytrap store about 10 times over the past year since I first came across the website. Although they specialize in venus flytraps, I've also ordered other plants from them such as Drosera regia and Cephalotus, along with several packs of flytrap seeds. I was always wary about ordering from new nurseries as I've had several bad experiences with some (wrong plants come, mealybug/scale infestations, etc), but following my first order from them I always looked forward to that box coming with great anticipation. The orders always came FAST (I recall one being shipped an hour after placing the order) and were well-packed and the plants received were larger and healthier than any other nursery I've ordered from. Even their "young" plants have huge, robust roots which are a testament to the skill and care that Matt and Steve put into growing these plants. It's actually very common to get more plants than you expect to receive as well. I've ordered a 10-plant box and received 15+ venus flytraps. I've also ordered one young adult and received TWO fully grown young adult plants (thanks Steve). Their venus flytrap seeds are awesome (and fresh) as well if you want to grow them from seed. One would think that all of these great things would come at the cost of customer service, yet that is not so. If you come across ANY problems just send them an e-mail and they'll be more than happy to help. I've asked them questions about the growing environment of plants that I've ordered so that I can help them acclimate and they're always quick and pleasant. Keep in mind that venus flytraps will probably lose some leaves due to transplant shock. Every plant that I've ordered from them is still alive and healthy today, and if you have any problems they have a wonderful community on the forums that would be more than happy to help. Matt and Steve also post in the forums frequently as well.

I find it hard to believe that your e-mails to Matt and Steve were any different and that someone could be so angry about one plant out of several (Who here needs a life...?). Judging from the context, it seems to me like you were just trying to swindle Matt and Steve and get some free plants. Go order from your 4 other vendors if you're displeased, I'm sure Flytrap store will do just fine without your business (and attitude).

Posted on May 2, 2012, updated May 2, 2012 First, let me say it plainly: I LOVE this site. I'd hesitate to go anywhere else for my flytraps, I've had such a great experience with them. I've placed several orders from FlyTrapStore.com, all this spring, and I've been absolutely amazed with what I've gotten. I've had a young VFT for about a year, and the young plants I've ordered from Matt and Steve at FTS have blown it out of the water. First, I ordered 5 seed-grown young plants and got SEVERAL free in addition to what I ordered. I potted these plants with my original typical, and let me just say they are growing WAY more vigorously, and they are gorgeous and colorful. I've also ordered 3 other cultivars, including Pink Venus, Holland Red, and a FTS exclusive called "FTS Maroon Monster," and even after letting the maroon monster sit in the mailbox for a few hours, these plants have bounced right back after being shipped bareroot and being re-potted. Wow. AWESOME plants!! Also, the information on the site is really good, and the associated forum community is SO helpful, and gave me a huge warm welcome when I first started posting. Order from FTS, you won't be disappointed-- and if you are, Matt and Steve would love to help make you happy.

On May 2nd, 2012, Charli1 added the following: I forgot to mention the fact that there was a hand-written note with each of the three orders. I also regularly get feedback from Matt and Steve themselves on the forums whenever I post a photo or ask a question, along with other members of the community who are unaffiliated with the store. I also got a bonus maroon monster when I ordered 1. Matt and Steve and Leah are VERY generous.

Well, lets put it like this, I bought 4 plants from them, 2 of which where clones form there own breeding program( Superior clones you cant find anywhere else) and they gave me 11 plants, I ordered 4, they didn't charge me anything extra and there was a hand written note thanking ME, when I should of been thanking them, All the plants had defined root systems that were so long i had trouble finding big enough pots for them haha, not to mention they were in the best shape of they're lives, none need to be adjusted to sunlight and none were sick sidenote, Ive never seen such large traps on a red flytrap like the ones on FTSMaroon monster. They were all beautiful plants it went perfectly, I even had a chance to thank him through they're forum where they give tips and info on caring for the plants, aswell as resolve any issues AND sometimes have give aways in plant photo contests EXPERIENCE #2 I bout a pack of flytraps from them that was labeled "25 baby flytraps for 25 $" the package arrived in 3 days and not only were they NOT all typical flytraps, there were some that were red, green, pinkish, some all red with dente teeth, and id say about 20% of them were so obviously bigger then what you would think a baby is, some had to of been on they're second dormancy, I was extremely satisfied just looking at all them in various sizes and color and leaf shape, then I counted them, it was 41 plants 25$. i was stunned, I encourage everyone to buy a plant form them and be the judge yourself.
