Posted on September 10, 2019, updated September 20, 2019 I have ordered a lot of irises in the past 2 years, over 1000, and some nurseries are very good and some mediocre but Stout's was the first one that was a downright ripoff. I placed 2 orders in 2019 and given a note in the last order that they would combine them and sent a small refund to cover the excess postage. Well, come time to plant in fall I sent an email for them to ship and they immediately responded saying there was no problem and I was sent an email that both orders were on their way. Well the first order came (about $145 worth) and the plants were a bit small to average and some refunded for crop failure, which I could accept. But the 2nd order of over $170 worth of iris never showed up. I emailed them a week later inquiring about it and no answer. Almost a week after that I inquired again explaining the situation and still no reply to this date. I could understand a few days delay but not 2 weeks in this day and age. So I have no choice but to file a chargeback on my credit card and never do business with them again.

On September 20th, 2019, rkidz55 changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following: Stout's finally contacted me about my missing order and were most apologetic for the error. Received my order quickly and glad they came thru because they have one of the best websites out there and irises you can't get anywhere else. Can now keep Stout's at the top of my shopping list again!

Dear Ivan,

I tried to call you however the number I have isn't working (254.442.9970). I want you to know how sorry I am about what's happened. I assure you we are not trying to rip you off. I'm trying to figure out what happened as our computer shows that both orders were sent. If you could let me know what you did not receive I'll be happy to ship as soon as possible or refund you.

If you'd like to talk my phone is 405.642.4190.

Again, I hate to have upset you. Apparently an order was marked fulfilled on our system that wasn't.

Respectfully,

Hugh Stout

Posted on August 23, 2018, updated September 9, 2018 I ordered a couple of iris for the first time from Stout Gardens this past Spring. I always do a small test order the first time I try a nursery out. My order got here today and the particular iris I really wanted was so small it will take it years to bloom. The rhizome is about the size of a quarter, I guess they had a lot of orders for that cultivar. The other is a little larger, maybe the size of a very small egg. Again it will be a while before it will bloom. They both have one small fan but no other eyes. This is not what I expect from a nursery that specializes in irises. I was not expecting anything other the size of iris I have bought from other nurseries in the past.

On September 9th, 2018, lorettalea changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: Mr Stout graciously offered and I received a full refund on my order so I changed my rating to neutral.

Posted on August 1, 2012, updated September 19, 2015 I just received my first shipment of TBI from Stouts and I did enjoy the whole experience which started last January. I thought the website was very easy to navigate and the pictures really drew me in. I looked up each one on databases to see real life pictures and comments. I thought the prices were pretty good. I added to my order in April over the phone and Hugh wrote my extras on a paper towel and promised to get them added and he did. The only shocking thing was when I got a shipping confirmation yesterday and the actual box showed up today. My fault, they went into the spam folder. Everything looked healthy and well packed, also got two bonus plants. Thank You Stout's!

On September 19th, 2015, virginiarose added the following: Sorry to be gone so long! Just wanted to report back about how the Iris are doing. First of all most bloomed the very next year and my neighbors were gasping. They have done well, this is a very good company with good shipping method, healthy rhizomes, and great customer service. Highly recommend, please view album on Dave's Garden Showcase. https://davesgarden.com/showcase/albums/user/virginiarose

First time ordering from Stout Gardens. Made a late-season order and the iris were all in bloom so I had to wait a bit. Happy to do this, as I've recieved in-bloom iris from other companies. They don't seem to thrive well that summer after planting, and get off to a slow start next season. When these arrived, the rhizomes were fat, happy and clean, and they threw in an extra one! Already doing really well only a week later. I just lifted one a little to be sure, and it's already loaded with new roots!

I ordered some iris a couple of weeks ago. After I finished the order, I realized it was after their shipping cutoff date for the year, and I was bummed because I am not a patient agriculturist (waiting for seeds to germinate is the worst). But the order came anyway (and they sent an email letting me know it was coming). It sat around a few days, because I have no life and work all the time, but I did unwrap one rhizome and was very happy with how it looked. I just planted them this afternoon, and they were most definitely the healthiest rhizomes I have ever planted. There was one that only had a couple of leaves, but after looking at it more closely, I realized it probably has at least five eyes. All of them had at least three eyes, some even up to seven, the roots look great, and many have root initials forming as well. Such an awesome experience! I can't wait to see how many bloom next summer, because they look like they very well might. They also sent a bonus rhizome and there was a handwritten note on the invoice. I will definitely be ordering again.

Posted on May 31, 2014, updated July 15, 2014 Wonderful experience! After disappointing recent experiences with competing companys, it is a brilliant contrast to deal with this company. Especially noteworthy was the condition of the plants on arrival. They were packed with loving care and it showed. Clearly the plants had been nurtured well to this stage and the care continued. Stout is where we will come in the future first.

On July 15th, 2014, Aniela added the following: We ordered again and the wonderment continues! We shook our heads in amazement to find the new shipment so perfect it looked almost unreal, like set up for an ad! The plants were in perfect condition, considering we were out and they didn't get picked up immediately. We are planting them near the ones ordered last time which ALL are growing perfectly. Yes, we will be back again and again. The care that goes into these plants sets a standard few could even emulate or come close. To top it all, the owner is very friendly and knowledgable, willing to help, once again setting a standard few can match.

I ordered a couple of dozen iris from Stout's in late August, encouraged by the positive comments on this website and by the fact that they have an iris called Guinevere's Kiss (my youngest grandchild is named Guinevere). The irises looked nice and healthy, most with increase on them. To tell you the truth, I was surprised they looked that good, given that they were grown in Oklahoma City, OK. I had the good fortune to live there for a while, and it's a wonderful place to live, but not the easiest place to garden. The Stouts must be growers extraordinaire. I was particularly pleased with the number of bonus irises they sent, including two of their new introductions. Iris people tend to be the generous type when it comes to sending bonuses, and I'd say, judging by my order, that the Stouts are among the most generous. And as others have mentioned, they also sent a mug--you can always use a mug, right?--and an iris magazine. I like the website, particularly the fact that they tell you how many they have available of each variety. Also, you can click on "Irises under $10" or "Daylilies under $10." I plan to order daylilies from them next year, and no doubt I'll find room to squeeze in more iris too.

I received my first order from Stout Gardens this week. Very fast service!!! The iris plants look great and were wrapped up like they were shipping a fragile piece of glass. I received bonus plants including one of Hughs 2010 intros, a Stout Garden coffee mug and copy of Tall Talk magazine. I'm very happy with the plants, the service and bonus gifts. Thank you Hugh and Jennifer. You guys run a class operation !!! I plan on ordering again next year

I just received my first iris order from Stout Gardens. I am very pleased. I also received a coffee mug, and a copy of Tall Talk, which I am especially pleased to digest! Mr. Stout apologized that they were unable to fill two of the irises I had ordered due to the bad weather conditions they experienced this past year. Mr. Stout more than made up for it by supplying me with two additional and much more expensive beautiful irises. Thank you, Mr. Stout for your generosity. I am indeed surprized that they were able to fill my order at all given the year's weather conditions. The irises look healthy and gorgeous. Thank you also for the generous bonus iris. I will definitely order from this company in the future. This was indeed a very positive experience, and I particularly enjoyed the nice selection of irises to choose from. I highly recommend this company to anyone looking for quality, value, and extreme generosity.

I just received my first iris order from Stout Gardens, and it was a wonderful experience. The rhizomes are beautiful, and as a bonus they sent me one of their 2010 introductions, BACKDRAFT, one other iris, and -- a Stout Gardens coffee mug! Their website is very easy to use and they let me know back in early April exactly when I would receive my plants. I highly recommend this iris and daylily business!

Ordered some Red Ribbon and Challenger daylilies in late April. Hugh Stout answered my questions quickly (even on a Friday evening which was unexpected). Shipping was pretty fast too. The daylilies are the best I have ever seen shipped from any website I have ordered from (huge and healthy fans - I wish I could post some pictures). Amazing selection of beautiful spider/UFO daylilies too. Prices were half of what I have paid for on other websites (which sold smaller daylily fans than Stout Garden's massive fans - I can't stress enough how plump and healthy they were). Hugh Stout was also kind enough to add a bonus daylily too (Harvest Sky - should be beautiful). I will definitely be visiting the Stout's website again soon.

This is the second year I have purchased from Stout's. Last year I purchased around 10 and they sent 4 bonuses as special as what I had bought. They were so nice and friendly also. I live in MN for 6 mo. out of the year and was impressed when only 2 did not bloom. This year when I received my order, I am even more impressed! He wrote to tell me that with the extreme heat he wasn't as 'pleased' with his Rhizomes. When I opened my box yesterday, I couldn't believe the 'hogs'! (Hogs and Iris shouldn't be in the same sentence.) Anyway, awesome Iris and great Gardens! Check them out!
