Thru email correspondence I received a beautiful Ukigumo specimen. It was very well packed and arrived healthy. They even honored my request for multiple pictures of tree before I bought it.

Lovely Japanese Maple trees. Could not be more pleased with what I got for the prices. I thought the shipping was very reasonable for two 5 gallon and a 7 gallon tree in 5 foot tall boxes. And the trees needed ever bit of that box height. The packaging was at the top of what I have seen - the tops were wrapping in fabric and they placed a number of plastic air bags inside to cushion any shocks. I couldn't find a leave or branch out of place. Speaking of shipping, FedEx Ground here is atrocious so they were able to switch over to UPS who delivered without an issue. Communication was great as well. Highly recommended. If you are tired of paying high prices for small 1 or 2 gallon grafts from the West Coast - although they offer much more than those, please give Davidsan in the Midwest a try. You will not be disappointed. The Youtube link at the top fairly illustrates what they sell.

This is my 4th purchase from Davidsan's. Each time the trees arrived in great condition. Their selection is superb. Great experience with Davidsan's. I will buy again from them, but I need to find more space!

Posted on February 7, 2014, updated February 7, 2014 I ordered a few different items from this company. I was very pleased with the seed quality. Growing from seed is a learning experience that I am continuosly trying to improve. My rating is neutral for this company as I've received no email response regarding the status of the last seeds I ordered. I was hoping they could look up my account status as the most recent order was placed last season. Otherwise I will definately buy from this vendor in the future.

On February 7th, 2014, Slopesided changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: I appreciate the response and clarity. I will definately do business with this vendor again. I believe there was a misunderstanding that has been clarified.
Company representative comment on February 7, 2014:
On Feb 7, 2014 11:24 PM, Davidsans Japanese Maples responded with:

I have written the customer and offered them an apology. I have never sold them seeds since I do not sell seeds to anyone I never have since being in business I have let folks come and pick them on occasion at no charge if I am not too busy, I sell just trees and have always sold just trees. I have never done business with this person as he must have mixed up with someone else. I did though write and apologized for not returning their email . I got two emails for seeds ( that I don't offer for sale and have never before offered for sale) around the same time and got them mixed up thought I'd answered both with a negative on seed sales. I did though apologize for not answering the email which I only got once and admittedly screwed up on. So I will do, as I did in my email to him, and publicly apologize for my screw up with the email . I hope he and all of you understand .

Posted on October 4, 2012, updated June 5, 2013 Posted on May 17, 2012, updated October 4, 2012 Davidsans did such a wonderful job suggesting my gorgeous Autumn Moon that I just purchased JMs Sao Shika, Higasayama and Shaina. Beautiful trees! And Davidsans are a true wealth of knowledge on Japanese Maples. I only wish I had more land and more shade to add more of their gorgeous trees! If you really love Japanese Maples and you live in the "northlands" with a small garden...please do check with Davidsans before purchasing. Their trees are awesome and hardy!

On October 4th, 2012, BvrCtyGardener added the following: Ginkgo trees grow so little each year, I decided to splurge and get a large one. Seemed less expensive to go local. But when no one had my tree, I tried my "go-to" folks, Davidsons. They not only had the 6ft Autumn Gold, but also a dwarf Spring Grove ginkgo I couldn't resist. It was a horribly hot dry summer here in Western PA, and Gale & David kept in touch to make sure my trees would arrive happy and healthy. Boy, did they EVER! I was stunned at the size of the Autumn Gold. And the fullness of little Spring Grove! We got our 2 and 3yr old grandsons to join us in a planting party, where they took part in the tradition we love. I can't say enuf about the quality of the trees we've gotten from Davidsans. If cheaper were better, I'd probably have gone that route, but that's not the case with special trees. Get a strong, well-cared-for GREAT tree, and you'll have a leafy family member for generations. Thank you, Gale & David-san!
On June 5th, 2013, BvrCtyGardener added the following: Davidsan’s Japanese Maples comes thru again. I thought I’d add a Korean Maple to my collection, mainly because I needed a more durable tree to replace a failing Black Lace Elderberry in a spot too sunny for a Japanese Maple cultivar. When I read about Pseudoboldianum on Davidsan’s website, I decided that was the tree for me. I did check around locally – I really prefer to SEE before I buy. Nothing available in the size I wanted. And special order prices were in my opinion, too close to mail order. So back to Davidsan’s. I think I’ve mentioned they’re my go-to folks for the finest trees when I have to go sight-unseen. Davidsan’s not only had my tree, David even recommended one he thought was much more delicately Asian – pseudoboldianum takesimensis. Not as hardy, but close to it and so much more beautiful. I looked up pictures online; couldn’t see much difference. So I placed my order. Thank the garden-gods I DID that! When my tree arrived, it was absolutely as large, beautiful and healthy as Davidsan’s said. In fact, SO beautiful, I couldn’t bear to assign it an out-of-site, questionable location. Instead, I moved a tree from my front yard into the Elderberry site and planted Takesimensis in the prime spot just outside my front door (I have a full-glass storm door) so I can prop my door open and enjoy that tree whenever I want, or sit on the front porch and enjoy it from there. This is my seventh tree from Davidsan’s. My very first purchase was like buying a car – I wanted prices. Pictures. I had no idea how to care for a Japanese Maple. David spent close to an hour on the phone “walking thru the store” with me, discouraged me from my choice and suggested my first maple so I’d have a good experience and not waste money. Autumn Moon. So far it’s outshined my common Crimson Queen (I knew so little then) and given me years of pleasure. Japanese Maples shouldn’t be allowed in my yard. It’s too sunny, on a hilltop where winter winds are destructively nasty, the soil is so clay you could cut bricks out of it … yet every one of my seven Davidsan’s trees are thriving! Even the one I emailed “wasn’t doing so great” – Higasayama (may need pruned, it’s growing so heavily now - a complete 180 from “shock” to “awe”.) Ok. For you folks rolling your eyes by now, thanks for reading all this. I truly cannot say more about how well Davidsan’s Japanese Maples has defied my odds with super healthy trees. To me, every one of them is worth every penny spent! And Davidsan’s expertise – priceless.

Posted on September 23, 2012, updated September 26, 2012 Posted on September 22, 2012, updated September 23, 2012 We bought a rare pine from Davidsans. It ended up being much more expensive than we expected (and would have paid if we bought locally) but assumed it would be higher quality based on email exchanges with the owner--lesson learned. In any case, the pine died about two months after planted. We planted it along with other trees and plants that all thrived. We are experienced gardeners and are very careful, all organic with quality compost and soil, lighting, and so forth. We sent photos to Davidsans, showing the thriving garden around the pine, and heard back from his wife that "they couldn't attest to the planting conditions and the best they could do was offer a 50% discount" on something else we would select. I was very disappointed. I was just hoping they would replace the tree. There were other aspects to this experience that were not great but this was the worst. We lost almost $200 and have no tree to show for it.

They do seem committed to customer satisfaction, and are working with us to reach a resolution. We can say that they seem very knowledgeable of their products and take care to ensure good packaging and shipping of the trees. Our initial posting was somewhat spontaneous, and we would describe our overall experience with the company as positive.

Without hesitation or reservation, the absolute best, online experience I've had ordering plants--ever!!!! I could not ask for a better experience. David kept me apprised during the entire process via phone and email, he picked out a wonderful Stewartia rostrata for me that is the most healthy and vigorous tree I've ever received via mail, the packaging was top notch, no damage to the tree during the shipping process, I received my tree in a couple of days after placing my order and the price for the tree and shipping was more than fair and quite reasonable considering the quality of the tree. If you want a first rate experience from start to finish, please order from Davidsan's! Highest recommendation!!! Could not be improved in any aspect!

This was my first order and I was very pleased with the responsiveness of the staff in answering email questions prior to purchase. I ordered several trees for pots and all were well packed and healthy. All of the trees were much larger than I anticipated and the Happy Corallium was huge! I have ordered from other companies and paid $150 for what turned out to be a twig. Davison's selection is good and the prices are much better than other websites for the size of the trees. I will definitely order again as soon as I can find more room for trees and pots.

David is quite responsive to queries about JMs. He guided me to a JM cultivar that would be happiest for the environment and growing conditions at my home. I ordered an Acer palmatum 'Chiba' / aka 'Kashima'. It was reasonably priced and shipping was fast following placing the order. He accepts PayPal which was a plus. The tree arrived and was perfect in every way. I hope to get many years of enjoyment from this beautiful tree.

Posted on May 6, 2010, updated May 6, 2010 Posted on October 26, 2009, updated May 6, 2010 I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at Davidsans Japanese Maples this past weekend. I was inspired to make an appointment to see the trees in full autumn foliage and I was not disappointed. The tour of the gardens was splendid and David shared his knowledge of Japanese Maples with enthusiasm. My intent was to purchase a tree based on the recommendation from the Better Homes and Gardens web site. I thought my selection would be quite limited. I found myself "discovering" plants that I had not considered. The variety of shapes and colors of leaves that my daughter collected in her hands as we toured the gardens was a hint that more than one tree would be accompanying us home. David was careful to show specimens that would acclimate to the space, climate and soil restrictions of my garden. He recommended a tree that fit the "bright red" criteria my daughter had set forth. We purchased, Hippy Fin Mo, Nurasagi, Oregon Fern, Green Hornet and Maikujaku/Aconitifolim. The color and form of the trees were splendid and the price was more than right. Thank you Davidsans for such a pleasant experience. We will see you again in the spring!

On May 6th, 2010, Ayla69 added the following: Spring 2010. The all of our trees leafed out beautifully. Maikujaku/Aconitifolim had dainty red flowers followed by leaves as big as my daughter's palm. It was a delight to watch the trees as they yielded different colors and forms of leaves. We'll be visiting Davidsans soon for Red Dragon. We're looking forward to seeing the nursery in its spring splendor :)

Absolutely thrilled with my experience with Davidsan Maples. Despite only ordering two maples, I always felt like my order received special attention. Even when I had to request a sudden change in shipping to to an emergency on my end, Davidsan was able to accommodate. The maples themselves are strong and sturdy plants with excellent trunk diameter. The acer shirasawanum 'Aureum' I received, a notoriously finicky tree, is the most gorgeous of my collection now with a fantastic framework and no sun-scald on the leaves. Thank you, Davidsan Maples!

Today, I received 3 huge, healthy Japanese Maples from Davidsans. I was really pleased. They were very well packed. Limb breakage and squished leaves were almost non existant. I'll be ordering again.
