I have been a happy customer for 10 years. Excellent products at reasonable prices. This year I am planting one or two each of 13 varieties of tomatoes and 12 of peppers, in addition to herbs and eggplant. What would it cost me to buy the seed? Just be sure and read Ailaina's advice on planting stem and all of the tall tomatoes in a trench after pinching off most of the lower leaves.

I love her plants! they are always so heathly, and grow the most delicious tomatoes. She is an expert at tomatoes, and I love that she has the most unusual varieties, that you can't find in local stores. I have bought from her for several seasons now and I highly recommend this company!

Posted on April 29, 2013, updated April 25, 2021 Posted on April 19, 2011, updated April 29, 2013 Dealing with Alainia was a great experience. Living here in South Carolina makes it difficult to grow tomatoes in hot and humid conditions. Her selection of heat tolerant tomato plants is extensive. The seven varieties arrived as advertised in great condtion. A little TLC and attention for a few days did the trick. They've been in ground for more than a week and all are thriving. Will keep you posted on progress. Thanks again Tomato Baby!!! Mike S.

Posted on April 6, 2014, updated July 6, 2015 I bought several tomato plants before I had my garden ready. Every single plant stayed alive. It took me at least three weeks beore I got to plant them. they produced beautiful, tasty tomatoes and am buying again.

On July 6th, 2015, Cecilia56 changed the rating from positive to negative and added the following: Update to original comment: In 2014 I bought 25 plants. After a mix up with the plants, (Tomato Girl said they were mailed) then told me they were misplaced. I accepted plants, then they all died. As the season was over, I waited till this season to bring it to her attention, when Tomato Girl emailed me in 2/2015. Tomato girl asked me how I made out, when I told her all the plants died, she never emailed me back, never tried to make good on the order, nothing. Never heard from her again.

Look no further! If you are searching for a partner to help you start your tomato growing season with the most healthy, strongest and interesting varieties - at a fair price Tomato Girl is the right place to go! I have ordered from her for three years and have never been disappointed. Her customer service is superior, she deeply cares about her products, her customers results and ultimate satisfaction - plus, her growing tips work! Friends have shared their young plants from other growers with me and I have grown them side by side next to Tomato Girl's - there is no comparison. Even in the most detrimental growing conditions I can be assured of exceptional results with gorgeous, glorious and tasty tomatoes that make me smile from ear to ear all season long - thanks to Tomato Girl.

we`ve been ordering tomato plants from tbc off and on for about 12 years. alainia has been great to us,has even replaced a few for us at one time or another which was not her fault. our mail service here in our area is terrible. otherwise we have been very pleased with her service and quality of the plants.

I have ordered plants for 3 years and they have always arrived on time and in great shape. Her plants make me the hit of the area for old fashion tomatoes. The plants look so good I have been tempted to say I grew them from seed.

I won the Ugly Tomato Contest from Tennessee Farm and Home Magazine. My prize was tomato plants from the Tomatobabycompany of Brighton, TN. Alainia was extremely helpful in the selection of my major prize. I received Hugh's yellow, Matt's wild cherry, Basra, purple calabash, vintage wine, and dad's sunset. I have been growing tomatoes since I was 3 years old and have never seen such plants. They arrived in beautiful condition and produced like I was in the Garden of Eden. Please look at the Facebook page for the Tomatobabycompany to see my tomatoes. Thank you Alainia for your wonderful company, excellent customer service, and treating nature with such respect. Please buy all of your tomatoes from Tomatobabycompany and you will be assured of the best produce money can buy!

I hate to be the first one to report a negative experience but I feel it is my responsibility to share my experience. The plants I received came in a very badly battered box which I decided to accept anyway just in case the plants survived the damage. I sent a "heads up" email to the company and instead of receiving a "I am sorry to hear of the damage" I received a rather lengthy and extremely unfriendly response that was uncalled for. Since then they have gone quiet on me with no communication at all. This leads me to believe that they don't want to deal with my problem, which they consider more their problem - I being the problem - and that customer service is not their specialty. I am an experienced internet purchaser of live plants and it is important to be able to trust that the company will be polite and make right plants that arrive in bad condition. Things happen, damage is not their fault (though I feel the packaging could be much improved and would have prevented the damage). They don't always have control of that, but they always have control of being polite to their customers. It is truly the least they can do. Life is short, I don't need to buy from a company that is far less concerned with my satisfaction than they are with their own self-interest. A simple polite response would have gone a long way.

Posted on May 31, 2013, updated May 2, 2014 Posted on May 28, 2013, updated May 31, 2013 Posted on May 17, 2013, updated May 28, 2013 To be honest, I'm afraid the quality of plants I got from this company will make me lazy in years to come. Here's the deal usually I save seeds and/or order seeds to start myself, because I've found ordering tomato plants by mail to be not always a great experience - one year I got some so bad that I had to leave the roots in pure water for about three days before even thinking about hardening them off for actual planting (though even that turned out just fine, but those plants would've probably been dead if they'd taken any longer to get to me). Though most times it's not that bad I just find companies tend to ship seedlings that aren't quite strong enough to withstand travel and so there's usually some die-off either before or after planting. Alas this year I had no saved seeds, because last year I had a weird experience - started a group of seeds, they came up but when they got about an inch high they just started dying. So I used pretty much all my seeds (ordered and saved) to start over and then the year itself was bad - extremely hot and extremely dry and so didn't have enough toms to save seeds for this year. (Seriously, last year I lost lots of flowers/plants I'd had growing for years, as well, it was very bad year for gardens, or at least for mine.) So, this year, early, I ordered seeds from a company that I won't mention here because I don't blame them for this, but the same thing happened again - they sprouted but then when they was almost ready to start hardening off they started dying (I think maybe I've figured out what went wrong, but...). And because I got very busy with work and stuff around that time I did not have time to restart and try again and then suddenly it was May and that's too late in my area to start seeds if I want tomatoes sometime this year, so I knew I needed to buy some plants. I started locally, but for whatever reason the local selection was lacking this season (I did buy four plants), so I started looking around Dave's Garden for a company that had a fairly good rating and was basically all about tomatoes so I'd have a shot at getting some good plants. And I got to tell you I hit the jack-pot here. According to the email these plants shipped Wednesday and Friday morning they was here. It's kinda funny when I saw the box I wondered why it was so tall. Yes, I had requested large plants, but now I suspect small plants from this company would equal large plants from other companies. I'm saying the box was tall because the plants was tall. (For example, the plants I bought three weeks ago locally and have actually been planted for two weeks now are three times smaller than the plants I got today, and even when I plant the tall plants I suspect they'll still be twice the size of the local plants.) If I have one complaint it was all the tape around the package and around the plastic bag around the wet-paper covered roots, but I understand why it was necessary it was just a bit of pain to not just get into the box but to unwrap the plastic around the roots. So, yeah, while it was a bit of a bother to me I have no doubt that it was good for the plants themselves, so not an actual complaint. And, yes, as I said in the email to TomatoGal there are two that was a bit wilted, but I just checked about an hour ago I think they're already looking better (though it was dark enough it was hard to tell for sure), but I wanted to report that just because it does seem like TomatoGal cares enough she'd want to know, but otherwise the rest look good - maybe a yellow leaf here and there, but unless this year turns off hot and dry I can't see any reason why they won't take off for me. So, I'm very happy, and as I said above, afraid TG is gonna make me lazy because why struggle with seeds when I can just get awesome plants from her. (And I'm looking forward to sampling some from the extras she included.)

On May 28th, 2013, ConGar added the following: A minor update, but no change in rating. The slightly wilted plants have totally recovered. However, once I started getting ready and actually planting them I realized that several of the cherry tomato plants looked a bit worse for wear - some leaves/branches on more than a few of them dead or dying, but aside from one all of them are more alive than not, and at least four have already started growing, though I suppose to be honest three of them are still struggling a little bit, but only the one seems in any real danger of dying, and I'm still hopeful it'll start showing signs of recovery soon, but I have to admit I get less hopefully daily, because at this point that one just doesn't look healthy at all. (Also, just in case anyone wonders the four tomato plants I bought locally have finally grown enough now that they are as large as the ones I got from TBC. So all my toms are pretty much the same height now.YAY!) Still even with that one potential die-off (crossing my fingers that it won't die, but...) I'm still very happy with my purchase and would happily order again. In fact, I may end up just ordering some of her pepper plants, because alas the pepper seeds I tried starting none of them came up, though admittedly I didn't plant that many seeds only about a dozen out of three different packs (that's twelve seeds total not twelve seeds from each pack), but it's weird that not a one was viable. So next year I'll probably get toms and peppers from TBC.
On May 31st, 2013, ConGar added the following: Hopefully my last update on this, BUT I just had to come back and share this, because the plant that I was most worried about has finally started looking a little better, and when I looked closer it's actually got three little green tomatoes on it (one of the few to already have some tomatoes), so I'm hoping that's a good sign. I mean granted it still doesn't look great but it is looking a little better (and can has tomatoes already), so tentative YAY! Perhaps I am going to have 100% survival after all.
On May 2nd, 2014, ConGar added the following: DOUBLE POSITIVE Yes, I ordered again this year, and while communication was a bit slower this year and the plants wasn't quite as large, I do believe I also ordered earlier this year so it's understandable that communication was slower and the plants hadn't spent quite as much time growing. PS - Re: that "poor" plant from last year turned out to be the bestest of the lot - it went crazy spreading out over a big area and giving me lots and lots of cherry toms. YAY! Sadly it was the only one that went "that" crazy. So this year I ordered four that are supposed to go nuts, because I love me some cherry toms. Seriously can't get enough - even with the plants I ordered last year I still ended up buying cherry toms at the store several times. I also can't believe I didn't mention this from last year, because I ordered later several of the plants was bigger then what I received this year, which ended up causing some limb breakage during a couple windy days. No problem I just ended up with more tom plants, because I put the broken limbs in their own dirt/pot (even one so small that I didn't think it would "take") and ended up with, I think, three more plants than I ordered, because all the limbs made their own productive plants. All and all it makes me really eager for this years lot to take off and give me some yummy yummy for my tummy. But I suppose it's a wee bit early for that, but just seeing the box on my porch when I got home from work the other day made me giggle happily. Now if only she sold cucumbers - I have cuc seeds, but they should have been started weeks ago - blame my job, I am, because for the last several weeks work has been crazy and it ain't over yet so I'm probably gonna need to "cheat" on cucs this year. Sadly, last year worms *frownie face* took out all the sample plants I was sent, so I was never able to sample them or save seeds to try again this year. This year I'm gonna be smarter and not plant all the sample plants in the same row - I'm gonna spread them out so hopefully I'll be able to sample the samples this year. Well, that and spray/dust for worms whether I see them or not - last year I went by sight and so of course those rascally worms attacked some that I wasn't keeping as close an eye on.

I am overwhelmed with how well all of the plants I ordered from Tomato Girl/Tomato Baby did! Next year, I will be sure to plant a larger plot. This was my first time ordering from TB and I had an incredible experience. Alaina personally made sure that my tomato babies arrived at the perfect time. She actually checked in on the weather in my area, and advised me to push my delivery date because of a cold front was forecasted, so I owe her big time for the success of our crops! ALL the plants arrived healthy and thrived after planting. She even threw in some more fun varieties for me to try. I will be ordering again, and would highly recommend to everyone!

In addition to a selection of locally available certainties like Better Boy and Purple Cherokee, I like to try some more exotic tomatoes each year to see what I might want to have become regulars. I had tried other sources without finding the quality of plants that I wanted when I realized that the Tomato Girl was highly rated on Dave's Garden. My experience fits that of other gardeners who have written about their interactions with the Tomato Girl: excellent helpful service, good information about plants and about growing tomatoes, high quality plants, large inventory of interesting choices. I intend to keep sampling tomatoes with the Tomato Girl's help to expand the range of tomato types I can grow successfully in the damp heat of Atlanta's summers.

I am a first time customer. Once I had sent my order in Tomato Girl responded promptly & the transaction was smooth & painless. My order arrived in a couple days & when I opened the package I couldn't have been happier. The plants were in great shape with only a slight amount of wilting. There was no damage to any of the plants.Tomato Girl was kind enough to add in additional plants should there have been any damage for no extra charge. When was the last time you ran across someone that cared enough to ensure that their customer was happy with their purchase? I intend to be a repeat customer & I'm recommending her to all my friends.

This is the 6th year that I have purchased from this company and once again I'm just amazed. Her plants are healthy, beautiful and as long as you follow the instructions you will have some of the best tomatoes that you have ever tasted. The first year I had my doubts. I had purchased from her because it was too late in the year to buy around here. She sent them and talked me thru (even tho I still had my doubts). But I followed her instructions and WOW you would not have believed the results. Over the years I have had some questions and each and every time The Tomatobaby Company has answered and helped me thru every one in a timely manner. Even last year when everyone was having problems with their gardens I was giving away tomatoes because I just couldn't bear to process another batch. I have several people in my small town that look forward every year to the wonderful tomatoes that I have with the help of this company. In closing with all the hassles that we all endure everyday don't let tomato plants be one of them. Buy from here and I'm 110% positive if you follow the instructions you will be pleased. If only they could help me process them all. LOL

Reeder Farms LLC is a professional grower in the northeast. Each year we strive to present new offerings to tempt our guest’s palettes. Utilizing Tomato Girl (Tomato Baby Company) allows us to present new varieties and test the response prior to misappropriating valuable recourses: Time, Financial and Real Estate with products not well received. Reeder Farms LLC has utilized the services of major seed companies for the same usage in the past. While they present lovely packaging to help ensure safe transportation that did not provide a Quality product in most cases the plants where dead or all but therefore the elaborate packaging was ineffective. Plant quality is the only priority. Over the years I have used the term “Cracker Jacks” when it comes to opening the box, we know there are “Plants” inside but just as when we were children we knew that there would always be Carmel Corn and Peanuts in the box it was always about the “Surprise”. Reeder Farms LLC will continue to utilize the services of Tomato Girl (Tomato Baby Company) until which time either party is no longer capable to continue in our respective businesses.

I have been a customer for over 5 years. This year my plants arrived looking large and vigorous but even if they don't look great at first they always make up for it after a couple of weeks in the ground. Excellent variety and always a few "extras" to make up for any destruction done by the USPS. If you have your heart set on a particular variety i would not order a single of that one just in case. I plan to keep coming back to Tomato Girl for my tomato (and pepper) garden plants.

I've had dealings with Tomato Baby for several years now and I've never been disappointed. Great customer communication - once I even got a phone call from her husband on a Sunday because they thought I needed to move the delivery date back a bit. I love that the tomatoes really are treated like her babies. We've been having horrible weather for weeks now so I'm a little worried about her babies, feeling like I couldn't face her if I actually killed one. The ones she sent me were healthy and happy when they arrived.

I had a great experience with Tomato girl (Tomato Baby Co). I first had business dealings with them a few years ago, but then decided I wanted to try growing my own plants from seeds. I did fair and grew some that no tomato plant company offers, such as Peach Blow Sutton.. This year, I decided I was not going to put myself through the stress of growing my own and decided to contact Tomato Girl for plants. The plants I received previously and the ones I received this time came in great shape. I did follow the instructions that are sent with each order and so far..so good. I do remember from before that the fruit I got was healthy and huge with no blossom end rot or any disease. I do wish that I could find a Peach Blow Sutton plant as I do remember it was a very tasty tomato and unusual that the skin has fuzz like a peach. All in all, I am sure I will continue to order from Alana again as she truly cares for these plants just like they are all her kids. Thanks Alana for great plants.

Great plants, excellent customer service from beginning to end - I don't think I can say enough good things about my experience this year. I can't manage peppers from seed in my home setup and have been looking for years for a place to order good quality pepper seedlings. Places local to me never have a good enough selection, or the problem is poor quality plants. Alainia goes out of her way to make sure your experience ordering with her is top-notch, and even included a TON of samples in case something got damaged during shipping or doesn't make it through transplanting. She even included tomatoes, which i didn't order - the seedlings she sent put my homegrown tomato babies to shame! This has been the best plant ordering experience I have ever had.

This is my 3rd year ordering from TomatoGirl. The first year was just a bad tomato year but our Matt's Wild Cherry and White Currants still did very well. Last year, we had good luck with all the big tomatoes we tried and I had my first crop of the tiny tomatoes from seed. This year our plants arrived overnite (luckily we live close). They were beautiful. Alaina suggested not to plant until consistently above 50 degrees at night. Thanks to her extensive but easy to understand planting sheet, we have kept our plants wrapped and watered in the towels for almost 2 weeks and they still looked good. We put them in the ground 4/28 and they were happy as could be the next morning. Even on my small scale, I love working with someone who is so eager to help your garden to succeed.

Finally, I could get everything I wanted to try! So I ordered. She sent me an email giving me suggestions on how to open the box and how to take care of the plants. When they arrived yesterday, I followed her suggestions and they are super!! I'm planting this this evening. They look great. I've gotten plants from many places since I stopped doing seedlings and this was the most ecological and rational way of sending them. I'm so happy and I expect them to be fabulous. I was so impressed by their concern that I have a good experience.

My tomatoes arrived as soon as she said they would. I ordered 18 plants and she sent 22 which is awsome! I have been growing tomatoes for about ten years now and just found her website which is great becasue of her variety. I plant an early batch and a late batch to stagger my production and have found that my late batch will last late in the year sometimes until mid november in GA depending on the weather. I look forward to getting them into the ground and see them grow. With the 22 that she sent puts me at 52 plants caged and staked for the year I am hoping for a plentiful late crop with the ones sent from her.

I have been buying tomato plants from Alainia of Tomato Baby Company for 5 or 6 years and have always had great satisfaction. The plants have arrived healthy, have produced as expected, and moreover, Alainia gives lots of excellent, friendly advice and her chatty style makes her fun to deal with. She always sends extra plants in case one does not survive or just because she wants me to try a new variety. I originally found Alainia when I was searching for a variety I could not find elsewhere.

We have a mid-size organic farm and also humanely raise goats and cattle on free range pasture with organic feed only. We struggled to find quality tomato plants that were not only healthy, but shipped well and professionally, not to mention varieties that do good in our central Texas heat... The Tomato Baby Company supplies all of this and more. We have had unbelievable success with our plants, our tomato and have never lost a plant or had one arrive in poor shape. Absolutely the best on line tomato company around.

Yummy tomatoes. Incredible service. When we were having a colder-than-normal spring a couple of years ago, Alainia contacted me and asked for permission to ship later. I was very glad she did, because the plants would not have survived... We kept in touch, and once the forecast looked clear, she shipped. And I love the variety and personal comments about the plants. I know what I'm getting when I get my plants.

This is my first order from Tomato Baby Company. Plants arrived in excellent shape and are doing great in my garden. Couldn't ask for better service. I will order even more plants from the Tomato Girl next year!

This is my 3rd year ordering plants from Alaina and I could not be happier. My wife and I have been experimenting and searching for the "best" tomatoes in the world. Each year we read through Alainas extensive list of types and descriptions and order 10 - 15 different plants to try... plus our 10 favorites (so far). The plants have always arrived quickly and in great condition. It has been a blast deciding which tomatoes that we all like the best. I even contacted Alaina about a hybrid type of tomato that my dad used to grow in St Louis MO that we all loved growing up. Alaina and her husband jumped right on it, they did the research and found a close relative of that tomato and it was just like I remembered... Delicious. No more going to the store and/or nursery and just taking whatever plants they have available for us. We are never going anywhere else for tomato plants. I would encourage anyone out there to give Tomato Baby a try. You wont be disappointed.

Wonderful selection of tomatoes and peppers. ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC CUSTOMER SERVICE. Shipping was on time as scheduled, and my plants arrived in very good condition. Extensive instructions for adapting plants from travel mode to grow mode were very helpful. Will order again next year.

I am extremely pleased with the quality, size, and the healthy plants I received from Tomato Girl. I did not have any success germinating my "Pepperfish" Pepper seeds this spring. Alainia came to my rescue. I can enjoy my peppers again this summer. Thanks Alainia. You will have my business again and again. Sincerely, Bruce

I have ordered from Alainia (Tomato Girl) for at least 7 years...probably longer. Her selection of heirloom tomato varieties is superb. When I wanted to buy heirlooms, I checked out ebay and found Alainia who has since opened her own estore. I ordered early in April and received my plants last Friday--I specified my planting dates and Alainia accommodates by offering a choice of shipping time frames. The plants are always well packaged and extremely healthy...this year was no different. I ordered about 30 tomato plants, at least 12 pepper plants, and a half dozen eggplants. Alainia packed in 8 "samples" of tomato, pepper, and eggplant plants (FREE), for me to try out. I follow Alainia's exacting directions to help the tomato babies to acclimate to my area...fortunately we are having perfect weather. This morning my plants are in buckets with some water sitting in the shade. Tomorrow I'll move to partial sun and on Wednesday, I'll plant them deep (tomatoes), since tomato plants develop roots far up their stems. I can't wait for the tomatoes--especially my new favorite, Black Cherry! Alainia's plants can't be beaten--for healthy plants, for great varieties. I heartily recommend Tomato Baby Company ...I've been gardening 50 years so I know a good tomato plant from a great one--Alainia's are great! Cheri Anderson in Indianapolis, Indiana

I ordered from Alainia at TomatoBabyCo on April 30th, 2012 and received my plants within a week. Here are the things I loved most about this transaction: - It was easy (I used the website) - It was fast (both ordering & delivery) - The prices are very reasonable - The packaging was great - The communication from Alainia was great, before shipping, during shipping and after I received the shipment - The plants were GORGEOUS, healthy & in great shape when I received them I ordered (3) plants & received one as a "sample". Alainia sent me a very detailed email about how to ease the plants out of the "shock" of being in the dark for 2-3 days, along with tons of other information. I had a couple of questions after receiving the plants (about using them in planters) and her response was quick, personable & very helpful. I'd ordered (2) tomato plants from a "big name" grower that were tiny, tiny seedlings with almost no root system - they were in terrible shape when I got them & died soon after. Tomato Girl's plants were huge (probably at least 6-8 inches tall, maybe more) and again, were in beautiful shape when I got them. I wish there were more businesses out there that offered that personal touch along with great products. Very highly recommend Alainia & Tomato Baby Co.

I loved Tomato Girl, got great service and tomato plants that neither I nor the lack of rain in GA last year could kill. I AM SO BUMMED that they seem to have closed. When you go to their website, it takes you to page that says "TBC has closed its doors. Thank you for your support the past few years. ".

This has been, hands down, the best experience purchasing ANY product online that I've ever had. Back in January, I started receiving gardening catalogs in the mail and got incredible excited at the prospect of deciding what to plant in my yard this year. Having noticed a ton of positive reviews on DG, and dissatisfied with my last online plant purchase, I reached out to the owner of Tomato Baby, Alainia, and inquired about when ordering began. After receiving a reply within 24 hours, I wrote her back with a few questions. Not only was she incredibly knowledgeable and informative in her reply, she was also as sweet as could be. I eventually asked her for advice on picks for both tomato and pepper plants based on my region, 2010's gardening issues, color/taste preferences, planting medium, and overall production. This began a series of detailed emails back in forth in which we figured out exactly which plants I should order, three and a half months ahead of time! Even after ordering, I received a phone call from Alainia's husband, who helps her run the company, letting me know that in their opinion, I had ordered TOO many of one plant in particular. Having ordered 3 of the Matt's Wild Cherry, they were concerned that I would have a tangled mess on my hands and more cherry tomatoes than I could ever keep up with. In addition to rectifying the over-order and substituting in two different cherry tomato plants at my request instead of a refund, he spent nearly a half an hour on the phone, walking me through how everything would be delivered and the planting methods they found worked best in containers. I was planning on waiting until my plants were delivered to review this site, but after Alainia emailed me this morning to recommend the delivery be postponed, based on the weather conditions she had checked in my area, I just had to review. They're in Tennessee, I'm in New Jersey, yet she had made a point of ensuring to the best of her ability that my plants would grow to their full potential. While I will post an update when my plants do arrive, I highly recommend ordering from Tomato Baby. Their customer service is second to none.
