I'm new at collecting daylilies so have been ordering mostly daylilies in the $10 and less categories. I ordered my most expensive daylily from this online daylily nursery. Not expensive as far as some, but to me it was. I spent $20.00 on 'Waves of flame' because when I saw it on this site, I just had to have it. I also ordered 'CHESAPEAKE CRABLEGS' for $8.00 to meet his minimum. He charged me $10.00 shipping. Which at todays high shipping costs was understandable though was higher than many sellers ask for for only 2 plants. I just thought he may be sending extras so would need the higher postage. When I received the plants the box felt very light compared to other orders I'd received with the same amount of plants. The box showed he only paid $5.60 to ship these to me. When I opened the box, I found 2 plants that were very dried out and very yellow. Made me think he dried them so shipping would be less. I know that they'll be ok because daylilies are tough, but for the price I paid and the high price of shipping I was expecting better looking plants like the ones I've recieved from other sellers. It's unlikely that I'll get any blooms this year from plants that were stressed this much. There was no bonus either. I wouldn't recommend this seller. There are much better sources out there.

On May 17th, 2008, Joy changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following: I've changed my rating to Positive. I didn't let this seller know I was unhappy with my plants. He must have seen it here. But I received a check for my purchase in full including shipping. A company that would reimburse the full amount because you're not happy really deserves your business. It shows they really do care if their customer's are happy. I'm sorry now that I didn't let them have a chance to fix this before I went public with it. That was wrong of me. I would buy from this grower again.

I am happy to provide a Positive Rating for Gaylord Carder and "A Cottage Garden" in Summerville, South Carolina. Prior to visiting relatives in SC, I sent an order to him, and he let me pick it up in person. This was in mid June of 2006. He left the plants in 2 gallon pots, and still only charged me his (extremely reasonable) web prices, and gave a very nice bonus as well. Since he'd been out of almost half of what I wanted, my order was ultimately pretty small ($30?), so it was a lovely surprise to get a bonus plant. He could not have been nicer, and all the plants I got from him have flourished in 2007. I can't address the mail ordering aspect, but having met him, if I couldn't shop in person, I would definitely deal with him via mail order too. He's got a lovely display in his yard, and graciously showed us around, telling us to let him know if we had any problems with the daylilies once we got home. In fact, when I initially wrote to him about a possible order, he said even if I didn't purchase anything, that I should please feel free to come by and look at the gardens since they would have just barely passed their peak bloom when my husband and I would be there. I am sorry this rating is less than timely, but I wasn't a paid subscriber at the time I visited "A Cottage Garden". I would highly recommend that anyone in the vicinity arrange to visit, and, as I said earlier, if I could not stop by in person, I would definitely order from him on-line.
