Notes

An article on reblooming irises in the August 1998 issue of Better Homes and Gardens has brought a lot of inquiries and some questions. We were the only east coast source listed for remontant irises. As a home/farm based catalog business, we have not yet listed a business phone number, so Friendship Gardens is not yet in the phone book. We do expect to begin accepting VISA/Master Card orders for the 1999 shipping season. Many databases list our old address in Maryland. We moved from 2 acres to 22 acres so Joan could have the room for her seedlings and the many hundreds of cultivars, primarily bearded irises for the catalog, from internationally known hybridizers.

I ordered several times in the late 90's and was very pleased. I plan to order again. This company specializes in reblooming irises (irises that bloom again in fall), although they carry others as well. They have by far the most helpful catalog for rebloomers, because they tell you not only what zone the irises have rebloomed in, but even specify what states (and in some cases, other countries too). Most catalogs that include rebloomers don't give this detail, and it's important because there are irises that rebloom in California or the Pacific Northwest but don't do it in areas of colder winters. The first year I ordered, it was a gift for my mother's birthday. The owner of the company, on her own initiative and at her own expense, sent the order by a more expensive shipping method to make sure it got there on time. In addition, she sends bonus plants and even asks for a list of ones you'd like to have. Last I knew, the catalog did not have photos, but the descriptions are good. Prices are reasonable.
