I'm so glad I checked Garden Watchdog! SMG Succulents has great ratings here, and deservedly so. Their website isn't as fancy, visually appealing or informative as some of the other places I've ordered from (Mountain Crest Gardens, for example), and without the info on Garden Watchdog, I might not have ordered from SMG at all -- and that would have been a mistake. I just received my first order from them and am delighted to report that my experience has been just as fantastic as other reviews here said it would be. The plants (mostly Jovibarba and Sempervivum) shipped promptly. SMG ships bare-root, and I'm all the way on the opposite coast, so I expected some of them might look a little sad on arrival, but aside from a few chicks that look a little wilted, the plants all look fantastic (and the chicks will likely perk right up once I get the plants potted up and watered). Based on my experiences with other mail-order vendors, I was expecting enough hens (and perhaps chicks) to fill a 2-2.5" pot. However, just like other reviewers here stated, SMG is quite generous with the number of plants, and I have multiple hens (most with quite a few chicks) for each variety I ordered; easily enough to completely fill a 4" pot, perhaps more. I also decided to get ten of their sempervivum cuttings (50 cents apiece). They sent a nice variety; the smallest is a bit bigger than a marble, most are about the size of a gumball or a big bigger. (A few of them look a little dried out after their journey, but that's to be expected, and I'm sure they will recover nicely once I get them some water, as they all have roots already.) Based on their low prices, extensive selection, and generous order sizes, SMG will be my go-to for succulents from now on! I couldn't be happier.

I ordered sempervivum cuttings last month from smgsucculents.com and it was my first time ordering from them. I am very much happy with my order. They sent me different varieties of semps and when they arrived looked very healthy and in good condition. They sent me extra chick as bonus too. Some of them rooted in few days and now all the chicks are looking good and growing. Can't wait to see them how they would look in next few months. I will definitely order from them again. I am well pleased. Their prices are good. Great company! Great experience!

This is my first time ordering succulents from a company online and I am absolutely pleased with my purchase! I had a fairly small order comprised of a mini cooperi var. cooperi, assorted Jovibarba/semp. Cuttings and the jovibarba Mont rose. For both the cooperi and mont rose I was expecting to get a single small plant at the price they were listed for but the Mont rose in particular just blew my expectations out of the water. I can say the same for my other plants, and again am more then pleased with the quality and quantity recieved. The cuttings were all vaired AND came with multiple little rollers. I live in texas, and despite the heat and getting home late to receive my package, all the plants were healthy looking and well packaged! I'll definitely be ordering from smg succulents in the future, and I'd recommend it to anyone wanting to add to their collection. Thank you for the wonderful service and plants!

Pieces of Sempervivums I ordered from Squaw Mountain Gardens several years ago have developed into handsome colonies. They arrived bareroot separated in brown paper lunchbags, looked fine after their cross country journey, and immediately acclimated to my elevated succulent berm. At the time, one variety consisted of 4 pieces and improbably, every one of the four bloomed in the first summer. This meant each piece was going to die off, and with no chicks appearing yet I'd be left with nothing to show for that purchase. I contacted the company and described the situation. A replacement set was received in short order with no charge. I am a true fan. SMG has an exciting and seemingly endless collection to offer gardeners. Observations from Zone 6, eastern PA.

Ordered a bag of hardy sempervivium cuttings- very inexpensive. Fast 2-day shipping, great packaging, they all looked very healthy when they arrived. Good miscellaneous selection, ranging in size from a quarter to a silver dollar. Put them into the ground right away- can't wait to see how they perform next year! Would definitely order again!

This was the first time I've ordered from SMG but it definitely won't be the last. Their prices were excellent and I received so much more for my money than I expected. When I opened the bags I was surprised to find large amounts of each variety I ordered. One clump of sempervivum had about half a dozen hens and numerous chicks. Other places I've ordered from usually send one hen of each variety and, if you're lucky, a chick or two. I had numerous small to medium planters to fill that I had already put a variety of sedum cuttings in. I didn't order many semps so I figured the planters would look a bit bare for a bit and that it would be a while until the plants multiplied and they looked nice. I got so many large and small hens, and gobs of chicks that were ready to be seperated, that every pot is filled and they all look amazing. I highly recommended SMG to anyone looking to start or add to their existing semp collection.

I've ordered semps for all over the web...eBay...etsy...this company or that....i made my first order with SMG last summer (2013) and have NOT bought from another mail order company since. You will not get the amount of plants for the money ANYWHERE else. I can compare a gallon pot of un-named semps bought from company A....shipped barefoot. $10.00 plus $8.95 shipping. ( I didn't realize just how crazy that was till after I got my SMG order). That gal. Pot in the photo showed it spilling over with semps. I plucked out 12 from my order :/ most 1" sizes with a 2" hen in the middle....pot should have been left to grow all summer and sold the Next year....I did not order late or early. This was a May order last season. I got my SMG box the same day. I only ordered 50 cuttings that time. ($.40 each un-named 1/2"-2" cuttings of growers choice Unrooted plants). I paid $20 for FIFTY cuttings!! All DIFFERENT!!! The shipping was $6 plus a $4.95 handling charge. See the difference in orders? Each named variety is $3.75 per order and u will receive 3-4 young hens...about 1-2" across unless the variety is a small one. Each of those young hens has babies! I have a pot of nouveau pastel that has 4 small hens and about 29 chicks....that's an order from ONE named bag is planted a week ago. Doing beautifully!! If your a collector this place is a dream. If you just love "hens and chicks" :) ALSO a dream. U cannot find cuttings that inexpensive. (I hate to say "cheap" because the quality is anything but). Go with this company. Place a smaller order if your not sure. You will go back again and again. I can't say I even LOOK else where anymore...and probably won't unless I end up owning every named plant from smg lol. That will be hard because there are hundreds in species, hybrid from both cobweb and normal s. Types. LOVE, u will too. Go. Look. Stop tossing money to eBay or over priced mystery boxes.

I placed an order for some semps and cuttings. My billing address was different from my billing address, and SMG erroneously set my shipment to my billing address. By the time I noticed and alerted them, it was too late to recall the shipment. I emailed SMG Wednesday, and they replied Thursday admitting their mistake and promising to send a new shipment as soon as possible. They meant what they said, because on Friday- the *very next day*- I got a notice from the post office saying my package had arrived. I couldn't pick up the package until today (Monday), so the semps were sitting in the post office for a weekend but they look none the worse for it. They're in great condition and I'm extremely impressed with SMG's quick remedy of an entirely understandable mistake. They have my endorsement.

I ordered about 50 different varieties of sempervivum from SMG (actually I ordered from Squaw Mountain which is the same company) and told them to use their discretion in picking the plants as I couldn't decide between the many choices. They picked a good variety with a mixture of colors and sizes. The plants came bare root and in good condition. I had to pot them up while I finished my rock garden and they've done great so far (I've placed about 30 of the 50 and they are doing well after about 30 days) I would definately order from them again.

I have ordered from this company (which is the same as Squaw Mountain Gardens) several times. Every time has been a positive experience. The plants are healthy and true to name, the selection is superb, and the prices are very reasonable. The only caution I would have in ordering from this company is if you are allergic to cigarette smoke. The shipping box and the individual bags inside all have a strong dose of nicotine on them when they arrive and it does permeate the room where the package is opened... so those who are allergic should definitely open them outside. Overall, purchasing from this company is a very pleasurable buying experience. A plus nursery! =)
