I'm thankful for reviews to get an understanding of products and service. I ordered over $100 worth of plants from Taylor Greenhouses. While the packing was not as good as other nurseries I've used, I figured it was adequate. I gave the adorable plants plenty of time to acclimate. They had great sun and temperature, as I kept them inside. Unfortunately, all died except for one. I'm not sure why that one has survived, as it was planted - indoor - with the others. We monitored all for too much water and moisture, etc. I did let them know but a while after. My intention was to let them know rather than request a refund. What I can tell you is that the response I got was low-level snarky. I'm sure their plants are great most of the time. Mine weren't and I spent twice as much per plant than I do on the same at local "big box" stores. What most people tell me is that, contrary to the typical belief, those plants do better. That has been my experience. I just wanted to add my experience. Thanks

I have now received two large orders of Coleus from Taylor's, and to say I'm thrilled is an understatement! Every plant is healthy and perfect, and the order was well-packed and quickly shipped. As a breeder of Coleus, I'm always on the lookout for varieties I haven't yet worked with, and Taylor's offered a number I had never seen. I'm looking forward to seeing what these gorgeous plants will produce! I will be ordering fro Taylor's annually.

Posted on August 28, 2020, updated October 18, 2020 Ordered ten Begonia plants, all priced at $8.95 each. These were not rare plants, nor difficult to grow varieties. I've been growing rhizomatous begonias for over forty years, and have worked in botanical gardens in the past. Of the ten plants ordered, three were respectable. Two were terrible, and five were passable. But none of these were worth $8.95. Even the healthiest of them was a $6.00 plant at best. Of the smaller plants, roots were minimal, and the plants just about fell out of the pot. I have contacted the seller. However, should that even have been necessary? It is clear from what was sent that Taylor Greenhouse sends small plants that may not be established in their pots. Unfortunately, the number of nurseries offering rhizomatous begonias has dwindled. But I would hope that those that remain would try to offer the best product they can.

On October 18th, 2020, botaneye added the following: I stand by my comments. When the consumer sends money to receive plants sight unseen, it is the responsibility of the grower to send acceptable plants in return. The idea they we should then give them the chance to set things right before we give them a bad rating is ridiculous. It implies that it's okay for them to send poor quality plants unless they get caught. I'm frankly pretty tired of it. No self respecting business person would have sent such poorly rooted plants at that price, period. I do know what the value of plants is, as I have been in the business, worked at orchid nurseries, and am very involved in the local plant community. In fact, seven out of the ten plants ordered died. That's pretty terrible. I ordered about fifteen plants from other companies at the same time, also begonias, and every single plant survived and are now growing well. Case closed.
Company representative comment on October 8, 2020:
On Oct 8, 2020 11:24 AM, Taylor Greenhouses responded with:

Very tired of negative posts on the internet before we even have a chance to respond to the issue. Customer emailed us at 11:30 PM the night before posting this review. Only complaint in the original email was that 2 plants in the order were unsatisfactory and that he would keep us posted on them. We promptly emailed back trying to address the issue and were told, quote, "it's not my responsibility to give you the chance to "make it right"- endquote. Above negative review had already been posted 13 hours after his email.

Not sure how he arrives at an acceptable retail price of $6. I can point to a competitor who charges as much as $14.95 for similar 'not rare' plants in the same size pots. But I do want to point out that with our free shipping offer on larger orders, we assumed a cost of almost $2 per plant in postage. Customer notes that the availability of rhizomatous begonias has dwindled, then complains about our trying to make a fair profit on them. Happily, other customers seem satisfied- our sales are up 62% over last year!

I ordered 2 plants. They are small plants so they got squeezed in a small box. Came right out of the box, the pilea didn't look good, all 5 leaves, and they were all there were 5 leaves, with 3 tiny leaves, were all looking bad. I didn't think much and water them a bit to allow it to adjust. I've already owned one pilea, purchased from a local grocery store and it thrives, but wanted to get another. After more than 10 days, it still didn't improve, contacted Taylor Greenhouse, they didn't respond promptly, but another email sent and they did finally respond. Asking for pictures so I sent, they said to wait for another week to see if it would improve and contact them back for a refund or a replacement. I waited for about 2-3 weeks and the plant is down to just several small leaves because all 5 mature leaves aren't going to improve. Contacted Taylor Greenhouse again and sent 3 emails. No responded since. The shipping price was hefty for 2 small/tiny plants that got squeezed in a small box. The price for the plant is also overpriced. I regret this purchase greatly and I regret for being gullible enough to pay for such a price. I would never ever go back to this nursery. I consider a huge loss for the purchase and the customer service proves that it didn't really care. I do order plants online before, and this is by far the first and the worse customer service provided.

I ordered several varieties of scented-leaved geraniums from Taylor Greenhouse that I could not find elsewhere. I received my plants in a timely manner and they were carefully packaged and individually wrapped and packed to ensure safe arrival. They were a little smaller than I expected but all were very healthy and have been transplanted to larger pots and, two weeks later, all are doing very well. I would definitely order from them again in the future, the plants I received were smaller than I expected but quite healthy and over-all I am very happy with my order.

I ordered from Taylor Greenhouse last fall, it was a small order just a couple scented geraniums, a orchid cactus which they marked on and a streptocarpus. The strep was wilted when I opened the box, I was hoping it was shipping stress, not so much. It never straightened up and shorty died. I contacted Taylor and after several attempts they asked for a picture which I sent. I never heard back, still attempted a couple more emails with no response. I will not order again.

I ordered 17 coleus plants from Taylor this year. The time from order placement to shipment was very quick. I purchased a quantity that enabled free shipping. These are the positives. Packing left something to be desired. Taylor sent the plants in small 2x3" pots. They were well watered for the trip, wrapped with a paper towel at the base of each plant and that covered in plastic wrap to secure. However, foliage was "protected" simply with newspaper. Moisture from the soil of plants made its way into the paper and all foliage was damp upon receipt. The newspaper also doesn't offer anything in the way of protection, just separation between plants. There was nothing to protect them from routine jostling of the box, falls, dings, etc. And in fact I did receive a box that was caved in on the top. Plants varied in condition. None were excellent. Some were fine. A number of them had been overly and inappropriately trimmed, just a plant with small leaves and several dead end stems, in some cases rotten stems. On others the stems are thick and old, leading me to believe these plants were being used as cutting stock. One was broken in several places along a main stem from shipping. A few others were completely hacked to bits by Taylor prior to shipping, with few leaves remaining. Which meant they were NOT up for receiving any additional damage from shipping. Definitely not worth the price they are charging. These plants arrived looking like they belonged amongst the dead and dying plants on a box store's discount rack. A minor complaint but some of the pots are also very crusty, which makes me wonder if they were re-used pots that weren't cleaned properly, or just really old plants, or what. It's been two weeks since I received the shipment and all the plants are still alive, so there's that. That's why I'm rating this neutral and not negative. Some of the plants have rebounded nicely, meanwhile the worst few look as if they will not be suitable for outdoor planting this year. I also ordered one ivy, which seemed to do a lot better in shipment than the coleus, probably due to the sturdier stems. Some plants, like the ivy, are probably fine to ship the Taylor way, but delicate plants are a real gamble. FYI, I emailed Taylor via the email they provided with the shipment to report the problems. They never responded. So I'm here leaving this review. No customer service. Buyer beware. If you really need something they have, maybe it's worth the risk. Just go in knowing it's a gamble what quality you'll receive, and that no one will help you if there's a problem. If anyone's thinking about ordering coleus from these guys, feel free to D-Mail me and I'll send you some pics of what I received.

I made an order recently and received two nice healthy plants. I feel they were of good value and shipping is reasonable too considering other places may end up charging more. There was one issue with a mis-identification which I had to email a couple of times to call to their attention. Resolving things just may require a little patience from both parties. I feel like I will be ordering more from them in the future. Glad to see a mail-order source like this around.

What a great experience! My plant arrived in CA from Florida in two days. It was well packaged; carefully wrapped & protected & when I removed it from the box, it was in perfect shape & the soil still moist. Appears to be a healthy plant.

Pros - The plants were packaged semi decently, I've seen better. - Plants received were in healthy condition - Plants are labeled what they are Cons - One plant had been written upon hugely so in permanent marker not a pretty presentation - The plants had been sent with wet dirt in the pots, thus the box they were in was soft from being wet, already falling apart and was partly crushed upon arrival. - They took it upon themselves to replace a plant I ordered for one of my customers with "their pick of a substitution" plant I didn't order without notifying me at all and charged me for it. Instead of refunding me for the item they didn't have in stock. They didn't even bother to ask me if I would care to replace the item they didn't have in stock with another from their nursery. They simply took it upon themselves to spend my money for me. - Their shipping costs are too high.

Posted on June 9, 2014, updated May 8, 2016 I've ordered from Taylor's before and was pleased with my shipment. So, I ordered this year. The plants were received on the date expected, in excellent condition, except for one. Taylor's carries unusual begonias and a vary large selection. They are wrapped well and packaging is excellent. I am very happy with my mail order and plan to order again.

Ordered ten begonias. Packing was adequate but not at the level of other nurseries. All were in 2" square, 3" deep thin plastic pots. Four were so leggy they had to be put in clay pots to keep them upright. Three only had two leaves. Had to remove rotted leaves or stems from half the plants. Have ordered from over a dozen houseplant nurseries and numerous orchid nurseries over the years. These were, without doubt, the lowest quality I have received from any of them.

Taylor Greenhouses offer QUALITY plants. I have ordered from them a few times, and each time, I am very delighted with my purchases. The plants are packaged and shipped well. They are healthy and larger than what I expect to be in a 2.5" or 3" pot. They have great selections of begonias, streptocarpus, and epiphyllums. I would definitely buy from them again. And Free Shipping on $75 or more is an added bonus.

First time order from Taylor Greenhouses--ordered two begonias. They arrived without a stem broken, perfectly wrapped, still damp, and a very nice size. This year I won a blue ribbon with their cherry blossom begonia! Six more plants are growing in my greenhouse now. Huge variety from which to choose.

A wonderful place to order plants. Plants would go into a 5 or 6 inch pot they are so big. They are very well wrapped and packaged. How they got such large brittle rex begonia leaves packed with so little damage I don't know. They are very fast on top of it all. Their prices are more than fair and the shipping is as low as it can be. If they have a plant you want, be sure to order it from them and not someone else. This is a top notch operation with great plants, good packaging, and fast affordable shipping.

This is one of my main go-to websites for begonias; they have an excellent selection of unique and hard-to-find specimens. Their plants are carefully packaged and have always made their cross-continental trek from NY to SoCal healthy and intact. With reasonable prices and quick shipping to boot, I would highly recommend this company.

I have been looking for some very specific varieties of some of my favorite plants for Spring. I was having a difficult time finding some, but this company came up in a search. I immediately contacted the company via email, and was pleasantly surprised that they emailed me right back. After some by reassuring communication, I placed my order on Sunday night. It was shipped on Monday, and I received it on Wednesday! Wow! Beautiful, healthy plants, all with buds or blooms, and so well packed that not one leaf was broken! I am very impressed with this company and would recommend highly! Thank you Taylor Greenhouses for a very pleasant and swift transaction!

Posted on November 3, 2011, updated December 1, 2011 I ordered 4 begonias from them on Sept 28th. I did not receive my order until almost 2 weeks later and they were all wilted. I contacted Taylors and told them that none of them looked good when they arrived and one already died. They emailed me back asking when I received them, I told them around that I received them around the 11th or 12th of Oct and I waited a couple days to see if they would bounce back. Then another email saying that it took extremely long for them to arrive and then another email asking which plants needed to be replaced and they would send out the replacements. I told them all 4. Since then all plants died and I threw them away thinking that I had replacements coming. It is now Nov. 2nd and still no plants or any emails saying that they shipped out replacements. I contacted paypal to dispute the charge and get a refund. I have over 500 plants which the majority was mail ordered. I have never got plant that died this quickly in the mail. I have received them before heat damaged or full of insects. At least the sellers either resent the plants or refunded me the money. I was just going to let it go but it kept making me mad that I spent $45.00 and got nothing from it but dead plants. I think that this is very unprofessional of a company that is trying to get your business and also sells on Ebay. I requested information on the plant size from them on Ebay and they told me to order from their website and the plants were around 8 to 10 inches tall. I wished that I ordered from Ebay now. At least I could of contacted Ebay about the problem but I will have to wait for PayPal to go through the resolution process. I've never had to do this with a nursery. I give them the lowest rating for customer service and products. They supply no tracking for shipping and then if you have a problem they take a while to email you back with no resolution.

On December 1st, 2011, cbellwood changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following: Taylor's send out another package giving me the option for a refund because that package was lost in the mail on the replacement. I told them that I really wanted the plants and they agreed to send it again with no hesitation and with tracking this time. I received the package in great shape in a couple days. I rated them poorly the first time but because of them being so eager to please, I have gave it a second thought and decided to rate this as positive.

Posted on August 24, 2011, updated August 25, 2011 While browsing for a Begonia luxurians, I found Taylor Greenhouse. They're selection looked interesting, so I placed a first time order. My shipment arrived, 8/18/2011 less than a week after the initial order. It consisted of two Hedera's, two B. luxurians, and a beautiful, rare Kalanchoe. Plants are nice-looking, well-rooted, and good size. Prices are fantastic. Shipping charge is more than fair. Each plant was well-wrapped, and securely shipped. I will definately order from Taylor's again, Toni

So happy I found this nursery, Toni

I am rating this vendor neutral b/c of what I think are excessive shipping charges. In fairness to the vendor, the rates are clearly displayed on their website, but when I noticed the priority mail stamp vs. what I paid, I discovered it was inflated by about 30%. I recognize there may be handling charges, but I don't like it at all when vendors subsize expenses thru shipping. Why not do the right thing and reflect costs in the price of the plant? The plants per se were healthy and carefully packed. Pricing was competitive w/ other vendors, no cheapies here. This fact further convinces me that shipping is padded. I have contacted the vendor in this regard but in the meantime, please consider your purchase carefully as shipping charges might not make this transaction a good value.

I was uncertain about ordering from this company because the communication, as Kathy points out, is horrid. However, I received my order of begonias in June and could not have been more pleased. The plants were healthy and have been repotted twice in 2 months - very vigorous. It's a leap of faith when you order from some on the online companies, especially when they don't respond to emails for weeks. I say leap with this company and you won't be sorry. I'm putting together another order now that the website is updated with more choices.
