I ordered a peach tree in fall 2019, and several other cherry trees over the last 5 years. Shipping is very expensive compared to other nurseries. However, the root systems on every tree have been absolutely huge, way bigger than anything else I've seen. They are worth the extra price.

I ordered two fruit tree's. They arrived yesterday. The tree's are huge and the root system is HUGE! We planted them yesterday. Both tree's have nice buds on them. So far everything looks great. I will continue to order from Grandpa's Orchard in the future.

How wonderful to have such a quality family-run business so close to home. We finally were ready to plant some fruit trees this year at our new home in Southeast Michigan and wanted to order from someone who knew the best varieties for this area and provided quality trees. We were thrilled to find Grandpa's Orchard. They have a wide selection of varieties and rootstocks (and actually reveal the rootstock). The trees were healthy and the 3-in-one grafted plum in particular was huge and beautiful for a GREAT price. We were able to pick up the trees during a overnight trip to Southwest Michigan to save shipping and had a nice chat with one of the family members who run the company. They also answered several emails I had prior to ordering in a timely manner and helped me to change the order as well when I wanted to switch a variety. I'd like to order from them again.

I needed some more rootstock late and everyone else was either out or didn't want to ship. Grandpa's took my order and shipped it in less than a week. It was live and healthy.

I ordered 5 apple trees from Grandpa's orchard, they were all large trees that were safely shipped and have grown well. I will order from them again.

This Spring after all other mail order nurseries had ceased taking orders I was delighted to find I could still order a Gala, a Pink Lady, and a Fuji apple from Grandpas. This saved me from losing a year while I waited to order from someone else. The Gala was a 'large' caliper and the other two were XL. All three were on M7 rootstock and had a nice root system with lots of feeders. The Pink Lady and Fuji were both well feathered too. The Gala had no feathering but it was the L caliper while the other two were XL. All 3 trees budded in 1-2 weeks. They are still going strong a couple months later. I will gladly buy from them again. Good outfit.

I have ordered with Grandpa each spring for the past two years. The order process and shipping were very good. They sent out order notifications and shipping notifications. Questions were answered in the past in a timely manner and were informative. Yet I have ordered 9 fruit trees from them in two years and two have lived so far. Last years order of six, three died by September and one died this spring. This years order of three, one is dead and the other two are not far behind. I thought the common denominator was me but I also purchased seven fruit trees from the county, one fruit tree from a big box store and two maple trees from a nursery in NH. All of these trees are growing very well. They are also in the same area on the property. I am at a loss as too why Grandpas trees are not surviving like the others. I have emailed Grandpa for help and will add to this post when they reply.

Very large selection of fruit trees & well touted as a good company. Placed a large order in early 2013. On delivery the trees they were larger then most online nurseries send ... yet some had withering wood & none of the peach or nectarine trees were ones I'd pay $20+ for. I planted them & took care of them all ... by the end of 6 months only about 1/2 of the trees were alive. They sent replacements this spring for SOME of those I requested replacements for. All of the trees were listed at the time of order as being hardy in my area. It's now a year after that order & NONE of the original trees purchased from Grandpa are alive. IN COMPARISON ... I also ordered an equal number of trees from 2 other online "orchards" at or near the same time (Stark Bro's & another one) ... Those trees have a 85% Survival thru their 1st year.

I ordered 3 sweet cherry trees. They arrived as pruned bare-root plants in excellent packaging, zero shipping damage, and they were shipped at the time I requested. These were the same cost as what I have ordered in the past from other suppliers, but they are at least 3 times bigger. The stems are tremendously thick for mail order trees, and all buds are leafing out. Very large, very healthy, and have been correctly pruned/trained. I highly recommend this company, I just wish they grew pawpaws too!

Excellent choice for buying high quality fruit trees. I have purchased sweet cherry, nectarine, pears for many years from this company. This year was a bumper crop those 12 original trees yielded over 1000lbs of fresh fruit. Thank you Mr. Moser!!!!

The replacement also died, have tried 2 times by e-mail to let them know, but it seems no one is on the job taken care of their customers, this should not be a busy time for them as ll orders should have been shipped by now.Hopefully my complaint here will get a quick response from them if not.lost my business.

I ordered three trees from Grandpa's Orchard near the end of the spring season. One variety of cherry was out of stock, but a substitution was suggested, and I decided to try it. The two cherries and plum tree I received were big and beautiful, with huge and well-developed root systems. As I live in the area, I was able to pick up the order at the business and avoid delivery charges. This first experience with Grandpa's Orchard was very positive, and I look forward to ordering from them again.

I ordered 20 apple trees from Grandpa's Orchard and was absolutely pleased. The quality of the product was second to none. All trees were healthy and delivered as advertised. I had a special request date for shipping and the customer service section answered my request promptly. The trees were delivered on time and in great shape. I will use Grandpa's Orchard again and refer them to my friends. If you are in the market for quality trees and great customer service, Grandpa's Orchard is the place!!

I ordered three apple trees: dwarf Cortland, semi-dwarf King David and semi-dwarf Golden Delicious. I also ordered a Lapins sweet cherry. I made the order late Friday night in April. Over the weekend I received an email that the Golden Delicious was sold out. I gave a list of preferred substitutions. I received an email the next day that I would receive my first preference of a semi-dwarf Liberty. On May 1 I received my order in the mail. Since it has been a chilly spring I had great conditions to plant the bare roots. All of the trees appeared to be in great shape. I could have used the cherry tree to fight off zombies. It was big! The order came with instructions which were also available on line. Two weeks later all of the trees are leafing out wonderfully. I'll keep watering it and hope to pick some fruit in a few years. I had been considering ordering from a number of nurseries. I chose Grandpa's because they were fairly close by, they had a very nice selection, an easy to use web site, and positive reviews on DG. I would recommend them to others.

In February 2013, ordered 9 fruit trees which included apple, nectarine, plum, and cherry. Very good prices, great informative website, with multiple root stock and tree sizes to choose from. Received the trees mid-April and was very pleased. Trees in very healthy shape, packaged with care, planting and pruning booklet provided as well as tree trunk protectors. Packaged very carefully. All the trees have been planted and all of them are budding very strongly. They were pruned a little shorter than I expected for shipping, but that will probably help establish a strong root system. I have added Grandpa's Orchard as a favorite and will look to them for future orders. You can't go wrong here!

Grandpa Matt and Grandma Lee provided excellent knowledge and experence to all questions asked. They are hard to get ahold of by phone but respond quickly to email during their busy times. I purchased 4 pear, 2 cherry, 3 plum, and 3 apple varities in 2012. All of them did well and were as advertised but were prunded on the short side for shipping. For 2013 I ordered 14 apple varities and 1 cherry for a u-pick addition to our orchard. They offer excellent cold hardy and heirloom varities. They are becomming my go to mail order supplier of trees despit the fact of smaller trees and they cost about 60% more then my local nursery suppliers. I look forward to future buisness with Grandpa's LLC. If you are thinking about a mail order supplier give them a try.

I bought 9 trees in spring 2012 to plant in a new area. I picked Grandpa's because of the selection of fruit trees that work in my area, western NC. The trees arrived as scheduled and all were superior to trees ordered elsewhere over the last 30 years. Large caliber and good root growth. Several sprouted and then failed. Grandpa's have replaced them and their service is very good. My only complaint was the packing which allowed the excelsior to be knocked off the roots.

I have ordered apple, pear, plum and cherry trees from Grandpa's over the last three years. All came in great condition with good root systems. I planted them out as per their instructions and all did very well. Last summer we had a terrible hail storm. Twenty minutes of quarter and larger sized hail devastated everything. It took the siding off our house and broke out windows. The hail ripped the bark off the north side of all my fruit trees. This spring I was sure that the trees were dead. I was surprised to see that the apple trees leafed out and though the small branches were girdled and dead the main trunks have healed over and new branches are growing. They were set back by the damage but survived. My cherry trees weren't leafing out. I was sure they were dead. The damage to the trees was not due to faulty trees nor in the control of the nursery. I didn't expect an adjustment or refund. I sent an email to ask what course of action I should take with the cherry trees. I got a response back right away. Along with good advice, Matt offered a discount on replacement trees. I ordered the trees and before I could get the old trees removed I noticed they actually were beginning to show signs of life! They came back from low on the tree but above the graft so I have been training and pruning to get them into shape. The new trees look great and the damaged trees are looking better. This summer all but one of the trees survived the worst drought since dust bowl days. Growing fruit trees (and everything else) around here has surely been a challenge the past few years but Grandpa's trees have really been up to the challenge! (I am sure gonna have a lot of cherries though) Thanks!

I have two beautiful apple trees that are thriving right now from Grandpa's. What a great company! They respond to your emails (it may take a few weeks if they're in the "busy" season), but they will get back to you. Love their recipes as well.

I have had the BEST experience buying from this place and I intend to buy the rest of my fruit trees here because of both the quality of the service and the quality of the trees. My trees were packed with great care and the roots were all large and healthy. After soaking, I planted them and they came out of their dormant state within a few days. Now they are all leafing out beautifully. I highly recommend grandpa's orchard, the quality of the trees is truly outstanding!

I love these trees! As someone else here mentioned, the shipping costs are pretty high, but I feel like I got what I paid for, both in that department AND with the trees themselves...they're HUGE, nicely branched, with thick, vigorous root systems. The selection is totally awesome, and, what with the friendly people behind the trees, I don't think I could go wrong here, ever. The next time our local deer population munches on my trees I'm going to Grandpa's!

Posted on March 27, 2011, updated April 19, 2011 Posted on March 27, 2011, updated March 27, 2011 I bought a peach tree from Grandpas Orchard in 2010 and the tree above the graft union was dead. No big deal, I thought. I'll tell them. After several e-mails and phone calls, I finally contacted them and was told I would get a refund. None came. I contacted them again and was told the credit was coming. Again, nothing came. I have been unable to contact them since. They ripped me off. It was an expensive tree and they should stand behind their products. I do not recommend buying from them unless you live nearby and can deal with them directly.

On March 27th, 2011, kevininthegorge changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: I have been contacted by Grandpas and they have offered to replace the tree and refund my money -- quite generous. I gave this a neutral until it actually happens, which I suspect it will after the positive conversation and e-mail.
On April 19th, 2011, kevininthegorge changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: The tree arrived promptly and looks to be in great condition. I have planted and pruned it and am waiting for the buds to break. Grandpa Matt refunded my money from last year and sent this tree, no charge. I have to say I've changed my mind about this company.

Try to maximize a small space with as many fruit trees as possible, coupled with a list of the latest disease resistant trees from the OSU horticulturalists and you have a tough time trying to make everything match. But I placed an initial order with Grandpa's Orchard for what I thought was the best match, also adding questions to the order. Grandpa Matt and Grandma Lee took considerable time over the course of three weeks and many emails to discuss final tree size, bloom time, fruit taste, fruit storage, pruning styles, and cultivar types which resulted in an order change days before the order was supposed to ship. Still they shipped on time with everything we spoke about. The packaging is outstanding as others have spoken about, this is by far the best packaging of any plant or tree nursery I have ever received. My only regret is now that I have my shipment, I do not have any more space available to add more trees. Grandpa's Orchard have my utmost gratitude for taking the time to answer my questions and to help me with the overall plan for my backyard orchard.`

I placed 2 orders for a variety of fruit trees in 2010, 1 for 11 trees and another for 12 trees. Most of them were dwarf or semi-dwarf and I had an excellent variety to choose. Both orders arrived exactly when scheduled. I'd requested a delay between when I placed the orders and when needed to receive them; I wasn't ready to plant them when I ordered them but I didn't want them to sell out of the varieties I really wanted. The staff communicated with me through e-mails, promptly and answered all my questions and concerns. These bare-root trees were all packed well and very healthy. I ordered the larger diameters when available. All the trees had at least the advertised diameter and many were larger in diameter than advertised. Of the 23 trees, I lost 1 tree but that is going to be replaced when I receive the order for several more fruits trees that I've already ordered for this spring, to be shipped in May 2011. I didn't have any problems when I notified them of the dead tree, having them offer a replacement. The only thing keeping me from ordering many more trees from this company is the lack of space we have for them. I recommend this company to anyone interested in planting fruit trees.

I ordered a Spartan Apple from Grandpa's because I could not find one locally and the on-line apple nurseries I was familiar with were sold out for the year. The tree arrived in beautiful condition and, only a week or so later, is leafing out nicely. It is a very good size with an extensive root system. Grandpa's Customer Service was also very helpful. They needed to supply me a tree on a different root stock than I had specified and e-mailed me this info promptly. I called them with questions about the change, all of which were answered by a very helpful man who also gave me some advice about a problem I was having with my other apple trees. The only downside is that what Grandpa's charged to ship the tree was a little staggering. The shipping charge was almost exactly the cost of the tree itself which made the total price about double what I would have paid locally for a canned and ready to plant apple tree of the same size. However, nobody here had a Spartan which I needed as a pollinator as well as the fruit so--- I would recommend Grandpa's wholeheartedly if you can afford them. sk

I went out on a limb (pun intended!) and purchased nearly $400 of fruit trees from Grandpa's Orchard this spring. Wow! I am soooo pleased! I was able to purchase some unusual varieties - many of them ideal for my hardiness zone - which are difficult to find locally. The trees came very well packaged with good root structure and clear labeling. I like that the labels include a picture of the ripe fruit on them as well. The labels clearly indicate pollination requirements and size of tree. All the trees I received (apricots, nectarines, peaches, apples, pears, plums) look healthy and have good shoots coming on them. They were better than I expected for mailed trees and the caliper size is excellent. I would not hesitate to purchase from this company again.

I am VERY pleased with my purchase from this company. I was having trouble finding a specific dwarf apple which they had. It is well branched with a very good root system. The company specifies calipers, a good sign in itself, and the tree I received certainly exceeded what they had specified. I had a question about it when it arrived and emailed on a weekend not expecting to hear from them until at least monday, and they emailed me back right away. Good customer serice! Highly recommended.
