2nd order from this company where I received half dead plants. Tried to revive to no avail. Tried to file PayPal case and they want me to return item to Ecuador even though they shipped it from florida. What a scam

The best way to deal with this company is not exactly mail-order. Since they're in Ecuador, you would need to apply for an import permit, and possibly more in order to receive shipments from them. Luckily, they go to a lot of orchid shows in the USA and elsewhere and are more than happy to bring your order in with them, where you can pick it up - no paperwork required on your end. They are relatively responsive to e-mail, and I've never had a language problem - their English is fine. They are often out of stock on items listed on their website, but they do make this clear as part of the ordering process. I have not ordered orchids from them - just other tropical plants. It's an adventure in itself importing plants to the USA. The plants come in bare-rooted, and are often shocked a bit by the process. Even though I've had plants from Ecuagenera completely lose their leaves the day after I received them, they pretty much always recover. Be prepared for this. Another issue with Ecuagenera is that the identification of the plants is sometimes suspect. They get a lot of stuff out of the jungle that looks kind of like one named plant or another, and often the plants are probably just undescribed species rather than the name they're calling them. The plants they sell are nursery grown, not wild collected, but they do get a lot of their original nursery stock directly from the forest. I'm rating Ecuagenera positive because I think the experience with them has been as good or better than could be expected given the circumstances. It's not easy to bring live plants into the USA, especially delicate tropicals, and I do end up with living plants in my collection that are not possible to find elsewhere. The plants may take a while to recover from their international journey, but in the end I've always been more than satisfied. I've enjoyed doing business with them.
