Notes

Amanda's Garden Native Perennial Nursery specializes in propagating and growing native perennial wildflowers, ferns, grasses and sedges. Since our inception in 1991, our mission has been to preserve and promote native habitat by creating high quality, healthy native plants. We strive not only to create sustainable habitats, but also to meet the unique needs of our customers.

We grow over 150 kinds of native perennials, mostly from seeds or spores which are harvested from plants native to the Northeast and specifically grown for propagation. You can visit them! While at our nursery in Dansville, NY you can enjoy garden tours and hands-on demonstrations. During your visit you can pick up plants in person. We also ship our plants to addresses in the Northeastern US. Plants are shipped only bare-root and dormant. You can order online from our website or by phone, email or mail order.

Amanda's Garden's excellent supply of nursery-propagated perennials come ready for planting and are durable and beautiful. These plants provide food and habitat for butterflies, moths, bees and birds. Native animals depend on and are drawn to robust native ecosystems.

It is important to us that our customers have the knowledge to create a satisfying native garden that will provide years of enjoyment. We can help with plant selection and provide technical assistance as your garden develops. Planting wildflowers and native plants is an ecologically sound practice that allows even the weekend gardener to make a significant contribution to the quality of our shared environment.

I ordered 15 plants - 9 varieties. A couple were small but most had very large roots. They were larger than any other native plants I have ordered. Several days after planting they all look great. The plants arrive in sealed plastic bags without shredded paper or peat moss to keep them moist. If shipping only takes a few days the roots should still be fine. The plastic bags have the botanical name of the plant only. Nothing about sun/shade, moist/dry soil or height of plant. Keep that in mind because bare roots need to be planted in the right place as quickly as possible. I would order from Amanda's again.

Ordered a half dozen purple coneflowers in late spring of 2017. Plants were shipped bare root and arrived in great shape. The folks at Amanda's Garden even took the time to check the weather forecast for my part of the country, noticed a late-season heatwave, and (after notifying me) delayed shipping for a few days until the weather cooled down. That's customer service. I hope to order from them again in the future. Highly recommended.

Two of my children ordered gift certificates as Christmas presents. One never arrived -- lost in the mail. My daughter contacted them. Not only did they replace the gift certificate immediately, I received a lovely letter from Ellen Folts, owner of Amanda's Garden apologizing for the lost certificate. I look forward to dealing with this company.

I ordered three Actaea rubifolia plants from Amanda's Garden. The price was very reasonable and I was happy at the healthy plants they sent. By removing the soil and shipping the plants bare root, the shipping cost was kept to a minimum. I'll definitely be ordering from Amanda's Garden again.

I ordered a collection of native plants from Amanda's Garden and was incredibly happy with the entire experience. The bare root plants were labeled and packed well. They were all very healthy on arrival and came with extensive planting information. The plants are all growing well and look wonderful. I'm very pleased and will order from her again.

I placed my first order with Amanda's Garden this spring, and I am super-impressed! The 10 bareroot plants arrived healthy and carefully packaged with just the right amount of moisture. I potted them up in nursery pots, and in barely two weeks, they have completely taken off. The growth is strong and vigorous. I will definitely order again in the future.

Bought several native plants from her this April. Ellen gave me a lovely tour of her grounds, and lots of excellent advice about what plants would do well where. All the plants are doing great now 2 months later in the wooded area by a creek, except for the canada lily, which got chomped by deer (the plant is still growing, but the flower is gone). The Jeffersonia Diphylla had flowered and I just noticed today that it has new growth, and the seeds in the unusual little seed capsule are maturing. Hoping it spreads!

I picked up a number of woodland wildflowers, mostly spring ephemerals, from Amanda's Garden in April 2008 and planted them immediately. Except for the two that were dug up by curious squirrels, they have all grown into sturdy, healthy plants, and most of them have bloomed (the squirrel corn plants, which apparently fairly young, haven't bloomed yet). Highly recommended!

I have ordered native wildflowers from Amanda's Garden for two landscape installations. First it is difficult finding native plant nurseries at all. It is rewarding being able to find and use these native wildflowers in my landscape installations. The plants are well developed with good root systems, so if you can buy the plants potted you are certain of getting vigorous growing plants. Amanda's Garden offers species that you will not find at most other nurseries. The owner Ellen Folts is very knowledgeable and propagates all of her plants from seed or division. She has even developed her own propagating technicues for some difficult species. I recommend using these wildlflowers in your backyard and landscapes.
