I placed an order from Value Seeds ONCE and it was a waste of money - not a great deal of money, true, but considering that only two packets grew out of 13 ordered, and one of them didn't amount to a hill of beans, I was not pleased! I wasted a whole growing season. It won't happen again. There's no value in seeds that don't germinate!

I placed an order with Value Seeds for the flowering pouches and some seeds. Order arrived approximately two weeks after order was placed. My account wasn't charged until shipment was processed which was two days prior to delivery. I only placed a small order for 6 pack of flower seeds and 10 flowering pouches that ranged from $.79 to $.99 with a flat shipping rate of $1.99. The seeds came in foil packs and were clearly label by their names. I am overall happy with my purchase which was mainly the flower pouches. I haven't sow the seeds and can't comment on the germination.

Sent an order to Valueseed December 4, 2008. Seeds arrived December 29, 2008. Feel this is a reasonable amount of time to process an order. This is my first order from this supplier and hope germination is satisfactory. The seeds are packaged in sealed foil which is a positive. I am very optomistic. There is no question the price is right.

The seeds I planted last spring came up true to seed and with good germination. I just got another 20 packets of seeds (under $20 including shipping) and hope to see the same for next spring. Shipping on this order was reasonable, tho not as good as stated on their website...11 days from order to delivery. For the price I paid, I'm willing to accept less than stellar germination rates, but if last spring was an indication of what to expect, these seeds will do just fine.

I am happy to report ValueSeeds has come through for me in a timely fashion. Ordered 35 varieties 9/19/08; received 9/26/08. Complete, no substitutions. Thank you, Kay! Germination rate to be determined anon. Can't wait for spring, already.

I have never recieved my seed order. I sent two e-mails to them. The first one I sent as a reply to their acknowledgement of my order. It had the acknowledgement of my order and payment so there was no excuse for them not to send my seeds. The second was an e- mail through the contact info on their web site. I have recieved neither my seeds nor a reply.

I placed 2 large orders with valueseeds last year. I am a master gardener-have my own green house-I know what I'm doing. The germination from these seeds were horrible-I learned my lesson-not to order again & I didnt. The concern I have is I place many orders with T&M I just hope they dont fall into the valueseed mode.

I'm not sure I would've ordered from Valueseeds if I had known that these were cast offs/extras/last year's stock from T&M. I think they or the Watchdog should advertise that they are affiliated, if in fact they are. I ordered 12 packets of seeds for under 11$ with shipping which I think is fantastic. However, I received them in 10 days (which I think is extremely slow) and I agree they could be packed with better descriptions or even a common name and a date (common courtesy?). Their website has some good selection but seems random at best and their "growing guide" leaves a lot to be desired. I will readdress when I know germination rates.

I've ordered from value seeds a couple times and have received all orders in a timely fashion. I've had good luck with germination, even with things like catnip that I haven't been able to grow previously. I will order from them again.

I was very unhappy with the germination of the seeds from this company. I believe they sell old seeds. Here's why: I ordered various seeds from them, including sweet peas and chives. Some of the seeds have had fair to decent germination (50-70%), although still lower than seed from other companies. But the sweet peas and chives have had extremely poor germination (0-5%). (For comparison, sweet pea seeds I sowed at the same time and in the same place from two other companies germinated at 80% or higher.) Sweet pea and chive seeds, of course, are well-known for not storing well. VS seeds come in small foil packets with no date on them whatsoever. Their packaging is identical to the inside foil packets from the Thompson & Morgan company, and the varieties offered are from T&M as well. As far as I can tell, T&M uses "Value Seeds" to sell its old merchandise from previous years, which it can no longer sell as T&M because it is not fresh. If I had known that this company was selling year (or more??) old seed, I would not have purchased them. It is no value to pay money for seeds which do not germinate. Of course, some types of seed do store relatively well, although germination rates always decline. However, I think it is simply unconscionable for a company to sell old seeds without letting the consumer know. They should either advertise what they are doing clearly on their website, or at a minimum they should not sell seed for poor keepers like sweet peas, the onion family, and parsnips. In any case, the packing date should *always* be marked on the seeds. All other seed companies I'm familiar with indicate the packed for date on the packet, and usually a germination rate from their trials as well. (Aren't there federal minimum germination rates that companies have to comply with?) In sum: buyer beware - don't expect fresh seed or good germination from VS seeds.

I've ordered in the past and was happy with the prices and "quick" delivery, BUT...I placed a small order on Thursday, March 1st, and have not heard anything from the company. I did send them an email several days ago (March 13th) inquiring as the status of my order and the email was returned to me today (March 15th) as "undeliverable"...

I initially placed an order with this company because of their low prices and low shipping costs. It took about 8 days to receive my order, which might not be too bad, but considering that I am less than 20 miles from them, in the same state, that might be considered a little slow. Upon receiving my order, to my dismay, I discovered that one of my seeds packet was empty, not even a speckle of dust and another only contained three seeds, it was suppose to have 50. I only had to contact the company twice to correct this matter. It took about three weeks to received the replacement seeds. So far the seeds that I have sowed have decent germination rates, 70-90%, but I don't think I will be ordering from them again.

I went to this company based on reviews here, and I am happy to report that all the good hype is true. Order shipped in 6 business days, everything accounted for (thanks lisa!) and the price is fantastic! Only one small thing I was less than estatic- they have some security thing installed on the website browing guides, so you can't c&p only certain areas of the growing instructions, you either have to print the entire page, or use a right click "select all" and edit it yourself in word (time consuming!). I don't need 7 complete sets of sweet pea growing instructions, I just want the info on the particular variety. I wish they would get rid of that.

Great place to get seeds cheap, but beware that packaging does not contain any type of info, but you can go to the website for that info. One seed I ordered, wasn't available, so they automatically refunded it instead of putting it on backorder. Shipping was quick. I'd suggest ordering early for best selection, as with any seed company. I will report back on germination rates in the spring.

I'm very pleased with the results so far and will order from them again next year ....Already have had a full crop of radishes- the cherry belles- they were WONDERFUL. I'm a novice and I swear every single seed took, direct sown- that might be common, but it was amazing to me :) The peas I ordered (from another company) only one kind came up with any consistancy- so the radishes were a real confidence booster.

I'm extremely positive. Vegetable seeds are the best and fastest germinating I've ever found and are carefully packed in foil. Prices are very low. Value Seeds is Thompson & Morgan without the outside second packaging. Service (by Kim) is excellent, far better than most full-cost seed companies. Is there a similar outlet for discounted T&M seeds in Great Britain, where I also buy seeds? I haven't been able to find one.

I've ordered from valueseeds.com on two occasions. Both times, shipping was quite quick. The majority of their seeds have displayed at least some germination, without sowing the entire packet. There are a few that haven't germinated for me, but that's a problem which isn't exclusive to valueseeds.com - actually, their seeds have given me better germination rates than seeds from some other sources. The main downside is that they don't give refunds or replacements for seeds that don't grow. Also, as others have mentioned, their seed labeling could be better, and you'll probably want to re-label them yourself using the names on the packing slip. Their low prices make up for these downfalls, however. I'll be ordering from them again!

I bought quite a few packets of seeds from them, and (although I did have to refer to the website for germination info) the individual packets were great as well as being shipped quickly. Best of all, the seeds are incredibly hardy! After accidentally letting some of the seed germ. mixtures dry out, the seeds are still sprouting; I've never had that happen before. Now I have lots of great seedlings to watch grow - I definitely recommend ValueSeeds. :)

Excellent discount seed site. Heard it was the discount site for Thompson & Morgan and the seeds on the VS website due tend to match the T&M catalog. If you see something you like, BUY IT! Because it might not be there when you go back. The seeds come in little foil packets with the item number and a brief seed name. Sometimes you do have to refer to the packing slip to figure out which seeds are which. The growing info is on the website and is not included with the seeds. I've had excellent germ rates. Seed packets can range from 10 cents and up. For the price, it's definitely worth a try. Speedy delivery in a bubble envelope. I've purchased from them several times and will definitely buy from them again.

I placed a huge order with ValueSeeds and everything that has already been said is accurate. I'm just thrilled to be able to try so many varieties at such a reduced rate and if that means I don't get fancy packaging, that's just fine with me. They are a sister company to Thompson & Morgan and even if they are last years seeds..... germinations rates are still good for most all seeds. Here's a tip for you when ordering: every time you put something in your cart, go to the growing information page and copy the information about the plant and the picture and paste it in a document you can save. That way, you will have a quick reference if you need to know about the seeds you ordered. I will post after the growing season and tell you how they did. Susan

I have placed and received several orders from valueseeds and have been happy with them. Packaging is plain foil envelope but I like them. Sometimes I have had difficulty removing small seeds from foil packs as the seeds seem to be stuck as through static electricity, but I have not experienced that with valueseeds packs. A botanical name on the envelope would be nice but I just check and mark the packs when they arrive. Since there are no planting instructions (the website says to download these from the site), I just keep the Thompson and Morgan catalogue nearby when sowing, and look up the information in there. I have so far found all seeds listed in T&M. It did take several weeks for the order to arrive from the time placed until I received them. I am winter sowing the seeds in containers outside. I sowed 2 bottles each of poppy and achillea during a warm spell and those all germinated withing a week, around January 25, so the seed is indeed viable. I am contemplating yet another order...valueseed is great. Karen

Only tried Value Seeds because of what I read on here. So far it's been very good. I got several packages of seeds within a week, placed another order just this week. Of the first seed batch, the ones needing to be started early have germinated very well, some maybe 100%. I doubt if you can find anyplace with these low prices and dirt cheap shipping. I'm happy!

On January 15th, 2008, chunx changed the rating from positive to negative and added the following: How things have changed since my original rating. On my 2007 order, many of the seeds did not germinate, the shipping time was slow, but worse yet was that 3 of the different packets of seeds were not what they were advertised to be or labeled. The double petunias were just plain old regular mixed petunias, the coreopsis sunrise was dark red instead of bright orange, and the cascading petunias were just a plain single upright red. When I brought this to their attention and informed them they should change the description, I heard nothing. Guess what? Still the same description and so it's now even a year older seed.

I am very pleased with this company! I placed an order of about $12. It arrived within a week and a half, securely packaged. One type of seed I wanted to purchase would not add to my cart. I emailed the company about the problem and they replied that there was a problem in the system with those seeds. They stated I should email them as soon as I completed the order to tell them to add those to my order. I did this, and received an email back that they could not add it to the order, but would send those seeds to me and not charge shipping on them. They also asked permission to place the charge for the extra pack of seeds on my credit card, which I appreciated. I replied that I would like for them to do this. Two days after the arrival of the main order, the extra pack of seeds arrived, packaged just as securely as the large order had been. Those seeds cost 49c, and it cost valueseeds.com 49c to send them to me, so they made no money on that pack of seeds. I know it is a small amount, but it shows me they were willing to go the extra mile to ensure that I was a happy customer. It worked! I'll certainly be ordering more from this company.

I liked the fact that I could get a nice price on seeds and they had a flat shipping rate. There was problem with my order info and they referred me to a 1 800 number to resolve it. The lady who aswered the phone told me this was T&M, the cast offs from the previous year. I like the little sealed packages, but I didn't care for the way they were labeled. For example: Moss rose, as it was listed on their website, came labeled as "bellis rose" I had to take some to time to figure out what that meant. I'll give them a postive if these seed do well next year.

On June 1st, 2006, renwings changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: Changed my rating to a positive. I averaged a 50% germination rate on their seeds. I placed an order for 18 packets of seeds, ranging from $0.49 to $0.99 per packet plus a flat shipping rate of $0.99. In other words, the seeds were a bargain. I received email confirmation promptly, and my seeds arrived 14 days later in the mail. This company may be affiliated with Thompson and Morgan, because both the text/photos on the website and the foil packets look like T&M (inner) packets. Even if germination proves to be only mediocre, the price is right.

On December 5th, 2005, nevadagdn added the following: renwings is completely correct about the packets' sparse labeling. However, the numbers on the packets match the numbers with more extensive descriptions on the packing slip, so I sat down, Sharpie pen in hand, and wrote the full description on each packet as I checked it against my packing slip.
On January 18th, 2006, nevadagdn added the following: another tip: if you are dealing with a small quantity of fine seed in one of valueseeds' foil packets, cut off the top (very carefully--just the top), then peel the packet open down the seams, holding the packet over your seed-starting soil or a piece of paper. Use your finger or a paint brush to liberate seeds that stick to the foil.
On November 23rd, 2006, nevadagdn added the following: Germination rates were fine on everything I ordered. Since this is an "outlet" for T&M seeds, I thought that germination might be poor-to-none, but I couldn't resist the prices. After a couple years of raising all kinds of things from seeds, I've come to the conclusion that experience and the correct equipment/supplies/conditions are the most important factors in getting good germination. Not everything grows like a tomato or a marigold (no offense meant to either tomatoes or marigolds--I love them all).

I ordered roughly 50 packets of seeds after browsing their site and realizing the prices were excellent, especially when compared to full retail prices for the same packets ($0.49 to $0.99 for packets that normally retail for $2.95 to $3.95.) My order arrived very promptly - within just a few days. Seeds are packaged in plain, (perhaps foil-lined?), sealed pouches - a good thing since most of them won't be sowed until January. One small complaint: some of the cultivar names are not printed on the packet (just the generic name), leaving me to match item numbers to my packing slip and hand-write the cultivar name on the packet for future reference. I'll withhold judgment on a final rating until I sow them and get a feel for germination rates, but so far, so good!
