Shaw's Sunshine Gardens

I'm a multi-year repeat customer for Shaw's Gardens and there aren't enough good things to say about their daylilies and the service you get from Charlie Shaw. He always sends healthy double (sometimes even triple) fans that have all settled in and grown well for me over the years. Charlie is a superb communicator and keeps you informed as to when plants will be dug and shipped (plus the shipping confirmation), and he gladly answers any questions along the way. 5-stars on all counts!

First time customer - I placed an order online. I inquired with Charlie regarding the availability of several varieties; his responses were always timely and courteous. The plants I received were of excellent quality and generous size. The shipment was dispatched within a two days of payment; upon arrival, it was apparent that great care was taken with packing. I will certainly be ordering from Shaw's Sunshine Gardens again in the future.

I emailed them about shipping plants this late in the season and their response was quick and their customer support was great. The plants were nice double fans (sometimes more) with large root systems. They arrived well packaged and the fans were still green. After an extended search for Hyperion daylilies, Charlie went out of his way to accommodate my request. He did not have them readily available but made a special effort to divide them from his personal stock and fulfill my request. I was delighted with the condition of the plants and will purchase from them again anytime I need daylilies. A great vendor!

My son's name is Joshua, so I was looking for a lily with his name in it. I'm working on a "family" garden, using plants with family names in them. I found Shaw's Sunshine Gardens with a Google search. Seeing how highly they rated with Garden Watchdog, looked over their site, found "Joshua Nathan Allen" and contacted them about placing an order. Charlie checked to make sure he had this lily, contacted me, and I placed an order. I ordered two, he sent me four very healthy looking fans. He was in contact with me every step of the way, through the ordering process, let me know when they shipped, any questions I had he answered the same day. I look forward to seeing them in bloom. I will update when that happens. So far I am very pleased!

I was looking to change a large area that I had removed several loropetalums from,and replace with small day lilies. I wanted yellow, red, and purple. Mostly, I wanted to get them from s super reputable source. Of course, there's no better place to start with other then Dave's Garden, so that's what I did. Shaw's Sunshine Gardens was one of Dave's top 5 companies for lilies. I can definitely see why. I ordered 30 plants and couldn't be happier with the plants, price, and most of all-the service! I'm a very picky guy and Shaw's took care of all my needs. He worked with me on delayed delivery and shipping as well as giving me a great price on the lilies. Charlie Shaw is the real deal and so is his company-Sunshine Gardens! If you want beautiful, healthy lilies, this is the company you should absolutely check out first! Service is Great! And isn't that what it's all about?

We are expanding our daylily collection this year and in the process have ordered online from several companies. What we received from some companies was very disappointing—but not Shaw's! Charlie Shaw was a pleasure to work with, checking availability before I ordered and responding quickly to e-mails. Almost everything I asked about was in stock—so much so that I had to make some tough choices for the sake of budgeting time, space, and money. But there's always next year! My order arrived in good condition, carefully wrapped, and I was pleasantly surprised at both the excellent condition of the plants and the generous amount of roots included with each fan. Shaw's will definitely be on the list of my favorite daylily providers.

Order was timely processed even when I threw the Shaw's a change in the order. Arrived on date as promised. All fans were in great shape and fully grown. Extra fans appreciated. I will continue to order from this nursery.

I was very impressed with the quality of the plants! Each plant contained a minimum of three-to-four fans with robust root systems. I received my daylilies from Shaw's Sunshine Gardens earlier this week. I could not believe the size. They were all solid root bunches 3"-4" across. As I unpacked them, it was like a bottomless box of lilies. I had to check my receipt to remember how many I bought. Turns out they were my bonus plants. Not one, but Several! I was thrilled when I opened my package of daylilies that I ordered thru mail. Their web site has many, many, many daylilies and I ended up calling Charlie to help me out. As I was looking for particular colors, Charlie spent a lot of time with me suggesting some of the daylilies that I might like. I received my box of daylilies within few days.... Each daylily was beautifully wrapped, very healthy, the tubers were huge.. and the selection of colors and sizes was better than perfect..This is a beautifully ran family business, excellent customer service, fantastic follow up and amazing quality ...I am definitely placing another order very soon

Just visited Shaw's Nursery and had a great time talking with Charlie while wandering around the nursery. We had previously bought some of his daylillies and after a few years the identifying label had faded out. we took some picture of the particlar lilly and he I'd it for us. We also bought a couple more varieties while there. This is a great place to visit and purchase daylillies.

Top of the line. Very easy and friendly to work with. All my interactions were prompt and very friendly. I ordered 5 plants. Since this was my first time buying from them I only ordered the 5 plants. I was burned badly last year by another seller with very small single fan plants after placing a HUGE order so now I always buy small my first time. No such problem with Shaw's. Shaw's has a user-friendly website with excellent photos and thorough descriptions of a LOT of Day Lilies! My order was processed quickly and efficiently. I promptly received gorgeous fans, and even found extra fans included so I had enough to plant for several clumps. I can't wait to watch them grow and bloom. Sometime in December, when it had been below zero for longer than I could remember, I developed a springtime fantasy for a daylily with a huge green throat. With help from the internet I found Green Rainbow and Shaw Gardens. Charlie Shaw understood. But he had sold a lot of it last year, so he knew his supply was down, but at some point, and after several pleasant and informative email exchanges, he decided he would certainly have enough for my one plant and committed to an early May ship date. I think he emailed me at least twice just before the shipping date. I had no excuse not to be ready. He's a great communicator. The plant arrived last week -- big and healthy and accompanied by two bonus plants that reflected thoughtful choice (similar heights to the plant I bought). Everything is thriving. I am very pleased and will be back.

This is the third year I have had the pleasure of buying day- lilies from Shaw's Sunshine Gardens. It has always been a wonderful experience in every way possible. First, Charlie KNOWS about his product and loves to share his expertise regarding how/where to plant, what fertilizers to use, how to prep soil, etc. Second, he has over 1,000 different types, and they are dug and prepared on the day of the sale. The e-catalogue is informational and easy to access. Third, you won't find a bigger bargain anywhere. Instead of getting the plants and wondering if that tiny green knob is big enough to grow into anything, you will have mature plants (often multiples that can be divided) that are ready to make themselves at home in your garden. He responds quickly to customers and is very professional. This is a company you will want to do business with time and again both for quality and service.

This year I took advantage of Shaw's annual 50% off fall daylily sale and, as usual, got great plants. I have purchased from them before, and there is always good communication, and they always ship the kind of plant you are happy to receive. Top of the line.

I recently ordered from Shaw's for the first time. There was excellent communication and cooperation concerning delivery dates which I had to change. The plants arrived on time and were larger than I expected. The bonus plant they sent was a nice surprise. I would order from them again next spring.

I was looking for a specific daylily and was referred to their site. They answered my emails quickly and graciously. I received the order today (shipped in the week I requested) in VERY good condition. The plants look exceedingly healthy, they are a very generous size. I won a gift certificate for Shaw's Sunshine Gardens from a friend back east, but did not believe that these palnts would survive in Phoneix. I called Charlie and he not only walked me through how to select the best plant choices for my area, he gave me some tips on how to build and prepare my plant beds for success. I ordered my plants in Feburary, and they were delivered right on schedule so I could plant them on the exact day I wanted to plant. I recieved some bonus plants and we happily expanded our garden bed plans! Not only were the plants in great condition, moist, wrapped and clean... he included several items from my "Wish List" in a variety of color schemes. Shaw's has turned my desert front yard into a bright and happy showcase of my Southern roots! I would never have attempted to grow daylilies in Phoneix without advice from Shaw's! Because of Charlie's assistance and guidence, I have blooms only 60 days from when we planted! Amazing!

Mr. Shaw is lovely to work with! I had a question prior to ordering and he got back to me in a very prompt and courteous manner and has continued to update me on the status of the order. If only more businesses would take a cue from vendors such as Shaw's Sunshine Gardens....

The customer service here is outstanding and the gardens are lovely. Mr. Shaw treats his customers as well as he treats his lilies! It took two visits for me to choose what I wanted. Mr. Shaw patiently answered all of my questions and informed me on which daylily breeds would work best for my yard... and he let my son play with his cat and dog and crawl around his office floor. He also told me when his annual 50% off sale was happening - so I waited and was able to get the discount! (FYI I think the sale is from 8/1-9/30/2012) The lilies I received were in incredible condition: three fans each with strong roots, and clean, trimmed leaves. The quality is amazing. I HIGHLY recommend Shaw's Sunshine Garden!

I asked Shaw's to send a plant to a friend whose daughter died, in her memory. They were great to work with. My friend was amazed at the plants received! Good job!

Posted on September 15, 2011, updated March 27, 2012 I volunteer at the Huntsville Madison County Botanical Gardens and work primarily in the daylily garden. In making pictures of all our daylilies, I discovered an error in the Stout Medal Bed and have been searching for the correct cultivar for Ruffled Pinafore. I had seen a presentation by Charlie Shaw and was impressed and contacted him in hopes of finally getting the correct plant. He sent me six fans of the real Ruffled Pinafore and a bonus of Sabine Baur. They arrived in perfect condition. Thanks to Shaw's Garden my two-year search is over and our collection is complete.

This is our first experience purchasing daylilies and Charlie Shaw was so helpful, giving us good information to plant and take care of the plants. The plants are beautiful, well marked and the information tells a lot about each plant. He had every one I had chosen to purchase and they look very healthy. He has a very extensive variety of colors. We will definitely purchase more from him.

Customer Service A+++....... Mr. Shaw is a very polite and mannerly person with excellent customer skills. His garden is immaculate and very well organized, a pleasure to look at even when the plants are out of bloom. Can't wait for next year to see the garden in full bloom! Best of all his plants are healthy and CLUMP SIZE. You get more for your money! Twice I have visited the garden this fall and purchased plants at the 50% off sale price. I am very happy! Plants arrive healthy and carefully packed for shipping. 1st year plants were beautiful and I have no doubts that this spring will be the same. Charles was so polite and patient with me! I didn't know there was website where I could look at the plants available before I went so was clueless. He discussed my garden's color scheme and suggested options to me. Of course I relied on his expertise and the plants had healthy tubers and in ready to plant condition. Even my husband (a non gardener) marveled at the size of the tubers! Will be buying more in the future now I know where to look and can't wait for next year to see my plants bloom!

Excellent customer service is a hallmark of this company. Charlie went out of his way to accommodate my order even though he was running low on the plants that I wanted because it was toward the end of the growing season. Communication was excellent--he let me know that he was going out of town the day after I placed my order and informed me exactly when he would be back and when my order would ship. He got back in touch as soon as he got back home to tell me that my check had arrived and that my order had been shipped. The plants themselves arrived two days later, green and healthy and beautifully packed. There was a generous bonus included. You can't beat that--especially since I was able to take advantage of the prices at the Fall Half-Off Sale. This was my first time ordering from Shaw's Sunshine Gardens, but it definitely won't be my last.

His shipping charges were more reasonable than any other nurseries I checked out. I am very happy with the plants and with his help leading up to the purchase. We're recently made two purchases from Shaws to improve our daylily beds. Excellent service, very large, healthy plants in a beautiful setting. We live in the area and were able to view the beautiful nursery that Charlie has worked so hard on developing. I visited Charlie's gardens in late July looking for late blooming daylilies. Charlie gave me a great tour and suggested I wait until September to buy, because of the hot weather. He told me he would be having a 50% off sale then too. I just went back to pick up my selection and the plants are beautiful. Good strong fans with great healthy roots. His website is good too with good close-ups of every daylily he sells. Charlie is very efficient and helpful and gave me a wonderful buying experience.
