I ordered several VERY hard-to-find seeds late this fall from Bowman's. Unfortunately, two of the species I really REALLY wanted were already sold out. However, the other seeds arrived promptly, along with a note and seedlist so I could choose substitute seeds with my credit.

On 10/16/2003 the link provided by the Garden Watchdog did not work. They sell plants only on site, not by mail. They do sell seeds by mail. I drove to the Bowman's Hill Wildflower Preserve yesterday, 10/16/2003. Only a few live plants were available, I'm sure they will have many more when they have their spring sale. They have a good selection of seeds for native trees, shrubs and wildflowers, at a reasonable price ($1.50 a packet, $1 for members). It would be best to give them a call first, since their 2003 catalog is a bit different than the 2002 catalog on the web, and they have sold out of some species.

Just visited last week. Great place! Everything is native, and it's nice just to walk along the trails and enjoy the scenery. They had some tables setup with plants for sale, but their next *big* sale is in September. Can't wait for that! The staff on-hand was friendly and welcoming and more than willing to answer questions. They also have a little feeding area outside for birds, which was cool to watch which types were flocking there - including the squirrels. Definitely will be back in the fall!

If you are in the Philadelphia neighborhood you definitely should go to their annual sale. A huge selection of Pennsylvania native perennials, lots of spring ephemerals, and many worthy plants for the sunny border. Well worth the trip!
