I cannot say enough good about Peterson Pawpaws. I wish all nurseries were of this grade. Actually to call Peterson Pawpaws a "nursery" is an enormous understatement. Neal is the premier breeder of improved Asimina Triloba (Paw paw) in the United States and published in scientific journals in his field. We are all the beneficiaries of Neal Peterson having devoted his life to this pursuit. If you want one of these remarkable trees, (there are 6 patented and released so far), plan ahead because you and thousands of others will be vying for the next seasons releases, (and yes, they are that good). Get your soil ready and treat these trees like gold...this fruit goes for $7-$10 per pound even at farmers markets...and once you've tasted it you'll understand why...

I reserved a 'Shenandoah' pawpaw over a year ago. A couple of months before shipping, the company sent me a letter stating that the plants were smaller than normal this year and offered a small discount. I was already impressed with their honesty before the plant was shipped. I opted instead for a normal sized 'Potomac'. The tree was nice sized with a large root system, full of small feeder roots. The plant has grown over a foot and continues to actively grow. In retrospect, they shipped the tree so well the smaller plants probably would have done just fine. The only issue is that you have to reserve the tree so far in advance, but it's well worth the wait. I highly recommend this nursery.

I ordered two pawpaw trees this winter and received them on April 25. They look great. They are exactly the size described and have a large, moist rootball. The packing was excellent and I liked that they used biodegradable packing peanuts. I got an email about a week before shipping telling me when to expect the plants. I couldn't ask for anything better. I just hope I can take proper care of these guys now! With the help of Peterson's website, I should do fine. Thanks for great plants!

First off, let me say that I should have placed this last spring when I recieved my first order. There was a shipping problem, but Neil (the owner) took full responsibility and made numerous offers to take care of the problem. I decided to just try and nurse the damaged tree. He followed up through the growing season and answered questions and offered help as needed. Needless to say I ordered another pawpaw this year. (his are the result of years of breeding and among pawpaw experts are recognised as being the among the best varieties currently available) Neil e mailed me personally asking about my tree from last year (and as HE wasn't happy with its progress, he insisted upon replacing it free) and assuring me that steps have been taken to prevent the shipping problem we had last year. I order from 5-6 different online and mail order nurseries a year. I review the Gardenwatchdog reviews even on companies I have ordered from in the past if its been more than a year. I have had good and bad experiences. My experience with Peterson's Pawpaws is, bar none, the best I have ever had with any nursery. His trees are larger, recognised to be the best varieties, and the service is without peer. If you're ordering Pawpaws, you would be foolish to get them from another source even for a fraction of the price (and Peterson's prices are very reasonable). ~Chills
