Notes

Yellow Springs Farm Native Plant Nusery is located in Chester Springs, Pennsylvania on what used to be a dairy farm 150 years ago. The nursery consists of an old farm house, dairy barn, a spring house with pond, 8 acres of land, two cats, two dogs and is the place we call home. If you tour the property, you will find, among the different display areas that we have created, a meadow, wetland and upland forest area that we are in the process of restoring with native plants.

Al and Catherine Renzi are the founders of this little family farm in Chester Springs where every seedling gets individualized tender loving care. Along with our cats and dogs, all the plants are members of our family, until we find good homes for them with our valued customers and friends.

Our mission at Yellow Springs Farm is to promote land stewardship through the propagation and sale of native plants of the Northeast and Midatlantic area.

Native plants are more hardy and adaptable with less maintenance, and they prevent the spread of potentially invasive or alien species that threaten our natural habitat.

We produce and grow many species of native plants including, wildflowers, shrubs, trees, grasses and ferns. We update our website frequently so that you can check availability and new additions.

We specialize in the hard-to-find species and theme garden varieties especially shade gardens, sunny gardens, butterfly gardens and meadows. We promote meadow development with grasses and wildflowers for low maintenance beauty in all four seasons of the year.

Our plants are grown in containers varying in size from 1 qt to 7 gallon so they are easy to transport from our farm to your home.

We promote the use of organic fertilizers and sustainable biodynamic farm practices. We also stress the importance of the identification and eradication of invasive species and the concomitant replacement with appropriate native material that aids in controlling water runoff and restores the ecological balance of flora and fauna.

Our plants can be purchase directly at the Yellow Springs Farm, through mail order or special events in Chester County. If you would like to visit the farm, please feel free to contact us. We will be happy to help you with your design and planting needs. Please consult our design services link.

We offer gift certificates throughout the year for birthdays, weddings, graduations and the Holiday season.

We accept Visa, MasterCard and Discover.

I ordered four of their "medium" size Cornus racemosa by mail and was extremely pleased. The plants were good size, well-rooted, and packed well for shipping. This nursery is definitely a winner!

Love this place. I bought plants on two occasions, both time by visiting the nursery. They are extremely knowledgeable about native plants, and willing to take the time to help customers choose the perfect plants for a given location. All the plants I purchased from Yellow Springs have continued to thrive.

I visited this Nursery during their "open house" on 5/24/2009, and bought three small Paw Paws. If you go, write down the address because there is no sign and from the road it looks like it could be just a private home. Hours are usually by appointment. They had a wide variety of healthy-looking native plants, in a well maintained area. It appears to be a small, family business. The owner and staff were friendly and helpful.
