I wrote to the company itself earlier in the day about the mislabeling of plants - I found five. Despite that, I was going to place an order after checking check here. Other people had the same issue. I decided not to order. Disappointing.

I ordered cheap iris and that is what I got. The tubers were literally 1 inch long. They were shipped in the spring, iris generally ship high summer, but all are growing and one had the strength to bloom, and it was what I ordered. I am ok with this.

I order mainly online (everything) and have never had a unsatisfactory experience yet, until i ordered from Oakhill Garden. I couldn't believe there Iris' when visiting the site and just had to order right away. My order arrived on May 3, and the disappointment i felt once i opened the package is unexplicable. (I suspected something was wrong when the package was so light it felt as if it were empty, i ordered $100 worth of bulbs) To begin with, it was a small 4x4x4 box, with a huge wad of paper and the bulbs were thrown within this huge wad of paper. (no special packaging, in no plastic bags just sitting in the paper) the bulbs were dirty, and 3 were the size of my fingertip, out of these 3 fingertip sized bulbs one was beginning to rot. The biggest bulb (only 1)was about 2 inches. I just don't understand how bulbs this small could possibly yield plants the size of what's advertised on the site. ANYWAYS, i immediatly called the 219 # and conveyed my dissatisfaction and that i would immediately return the package EXPECTING A FULL REFUND. (I received the pkg at 11:45 am, at 12:06 pm my receipt at the USPS indicated my pkg was on its way back to IN.) I have yet to hear from anyone at Oakhill Garden. My delivery confirmation indicates the pkg was received on May 5, two days after i returned it: (Label/Receipt Number: 0307 3330 0001 2349 4921 Status: Delivered) Why has Mr. Tom not gotten in touch with me or as so much as made contact to apologize for my dissatisfaction? All I want is my money back. On the site it states a Money Back Guarantee policy and states a simple return policy, with the pkg we received a return policy with several additions to what is displayed on the site. Like a restocking fee of 25%!!! Is there a reason for that? Like it's out fault that I received bulbs in poor and unexpected conditions AND have to pay for that. I also placed an order with Holland Bulb Farms on the same day, and got that order today. I was exstatic with the clean, nicely and carefully packaged bulbs (those are bulbs). I am prepared to wait another week for a response from Mr. Tom or anyone at Oakhill Garden. I would love to add another comment on this page and state how positive the end results were of this purchase/return/ If I receive no response, I will seek legal recourses. ~"Very Dissatisfied in Massachusetts"

Never ordered from them and probably never will. Reading the comments chilled me out. I figure that between 20-40% of irises are either mislabeled, misidentified or have wrong pix and sometimes all 3. I've been in touch with the owner last year, reported a great many errors and I see the same errors this years, like the same picture used for 6 different plants with 6 different descriptions just to name one. So if you order these 6 plants, what will you get, the one pictured 6 times, 6 different ones as described or something else?... If all you want is a nice plant of whatever color or description there may be, that's not a problem, but if you're after some true to name, true to description and true to picture plants like me, that's another kind of game...

I ordered 2 Black Dragon Irises a year ago in the fall. I received 3, plus free irises. They are blooming now and are spectacular, no problems.

This company has too many MISLABELLED irises. What is apalling is that they changed the description of the variety to match what they have pictured. Anyone can tell you that the iris BEAUTIFUL VISION is not orange and that the iris BOHEMIAN is not purple. I contacted this company several months ago about this but no reply. Do not order from this company if you care about getting properly identified irises.

On July 25th, 2007, CHA added the following: This company claims that all of its Iris descriptions are according to the American Iris Society. Well, let's see... Tall Bearded Iris Bohemian Described on their webpage as: With the exquisite ruffling, the bubbling, cascading beauty of such deep and radiant and coalescence of medium purple to deep blue tones, what could be more appealing than the stunning opulence of such a majestic iris? The official AIS description: S. majolica yellow blended with tan, bronze midrib; F. yellow ochre with flash of imperial purple in center; dusty bronze beard; ruffled. What kind of picture does this company have for it? A conpletely purple iris, when it is supposed to be a tan iris with a purple blaze. This company claims that the pictures are "not always accurate." I can totally understand that, but when an Iris is COMPLETELY THE WRONG COLOR. That's bending it quite a bit. Not to mention that a few of their more modern varieties, such as Acoma, have a picture of a historic / antique iris instead. Give me a break. I've been growing iris since I was twelve, I can tell if off by color or off by FORM. I'm sure if your a "watchdog reader" reading this and you go to check for yourself that it has been corrected. I sincerely hope that this company will at least take off some of its questionable products for the integrity of the Iris variety. Too many iris are being on the market today that are simply not true to name.

Thank you for your feedback. Our website is currently being updated with new pictures and profiles for our Irises. We have noted in a disclaimer on our website that the Irises picture colors are not always accurate to the ones pictured however the descriptions are accurate and up to date as they are taken directly from the American Iris Society. Oakhill Gardens is certified by the American Iris Society and has been growing for many years and several generations; however this is our first venture as a family run business into the world of internet selling. There have been some minor bumps along the road but we are continually learning. We greatly appreciate any feed back we receive in regards to our website and take all suggestion to heart. We also appreciate you visiting and will strive to meet your expectations in the future.

I've not ordered from this company, just checked out the website. I noticed several irises that are pictured with their names but are not accurate. I'd hesistate to order from this seller if you are looking for true to name irises.

I am not surprised that the company owner posted a positive rating for himself, after having spoken to him. He assured me that the daylilies he sent were excellent and should not pose any problems. I ordered from over 20 companies this past fall, and believe me that the dl's I got were alright--comparable to some from Michigan Bulb, Park, or another large mail order, dry and small--but definitely not the double fans I had expected or got from numerous other dl companies. In fact 3 of the root systems were in very bad shape.I planted all, but the same 3 show no signs of life with winter fast approaching. It took several e-mails and a phone call with promised replacement, before I was issued a refund. I am glad to get my money back, but I would have preferred the timely replacement that I was originally promised, if not healthy plants to begin with. I do not know how his irises are, but as for daylilies, I will continue to order from Possum Ridge, Valley of the Daylilies, Oakes Daylilies, Oak Hill [not assoc],Forest Farm, Eddys Countryside, Sunshine Hollow, Lakeside, Cyberlily.com or one of the other companies that sent large fresh double or better fans. His prices are comparable to most companies, and the selection is adequate. If you are willing to take a chance or have time to wait for replacements, if necessary--then I say go ahead and give it a try. If not, then stick with one of the companies previously listed or find one with a good number of positive ratings--ones that are actually posted by DG members and customers, not owners or others who have vested interest in the company. If you do order, open the shoebox or whatever he sends them in, outside. The wood shavings he dry packs his dormant plants in really make a mess. Please don't do as suggested and put on the plants, they will leach nitrogen from the soil--they are best sent to the compost heap till ready to cover your precious investments.

I ordered plants online and they arrived in really good shape. I especially liked the wood shavings that were in the package that I used as mulch around the lilies. The iris I ordereed were in great shape and large sound rhizomes.

Dear Watchdogs,

This was obviously a test post and when I asked Dave to remove it he said "No. We have to keep it as proof of our integrity and honesty."

I cannot argue with that. Who could! My only defense is that least I didn't ask an employee or relative to boost my ratings. This seems like a bonafide people's formum so 'Let the people speak'.
It was great actually great talking to Dave and I respect the forum and its users.

I and Oakhill Garden will listen and learn ;-)
