ContainerSeeds.com offers fruit, vegetable, herb, and edible flower seeds especially selected for successful container gardening.

Selling in quantities appropriate for container growing enables us to keep our prices low and yet offer a very wide variety of seeds appropriate for container gardening. For example, we presently offer 10 (ten) varieties of truly container-suitable tomatoes. We also offer collections and Theme Gardens for containers.

We specially emphasize *decorative* edible plants, so that container gardeners can grow terrific food as well as having beautiful containers: containers they'll be happy to put on their front porch or front walk.

We also sell a few supplies that we have found to be both useful and difficult to obtain economically in small quantities.

Book reviews, a newsletter, recipes, tips, and articles help to make ContainerSeeds.com a one-stop Web resource for edible container gardening.

We are signers of The Safe Seed Pledge and neither buy nor sell genetically-modified seeds.

I purchased seeds on 6/05/2009. I received no confirmation or any communication whatsoever from the seller. By 6/15/2009 I had rec'd nothing. I emailed on 6/16/2009 asking about the order. I received no response. I emailed again on 6/17/2009 and informed the seller that I was cancelling the order. I purchased other seeds b/c I had to get these veggies planted. On 6/20/2009, I received the seeds from Container seeds. The postmark indicated that they were sent AFTER I cancelled the order on 6/17/2009. I emailed them AGAIN and informed them that I returned the seeds to sender unopened and that I expected a refund. I never received the refund and had to dispute the charge through my credit card. Why you should NEVER purchase from this company: 1) Sends no confirmation of purchase or of mailing 2) Did not respond to any one of my emails. To date, I have NEVER heard from this company, despite many emails (including emails from Paypal re: the problems) 3) Sent the seeds AFTER receiving my cancellation notice 4) Failed to refund my money even after I returned the seeds. If this company had just emailed me and said "the seeds are on their way" none of this would have happened! Untill I received the package, I thought the website/company must be defunct b/c I received no communication!

I placed an order on June 22, 2009. The PayPal payment was made on June 23. I did not receive confirmation that they recieved my order so I emailed them and called them twice. On June 30 I initiated a PayPal dispute. Later that afternoon I received a phone call from an exasperated young woman. She said that she works 7 days a week and does not have time to send email confirmations she has recieved an order and that PayPal does not offer the notification order. I felt as if I had inconvenienced her by placing an order and paying her for it. She went on to say how she would send my order out after she got home from work on July 1,2009. But oddly, posted a tracking number for my package on the PayPal dispute page. The tracking number is listed as not valid on the USPS website. So far it is not looking to good for my order. I wish I had read the other feedback before ordering from this "company". I will update on the outcome but in the meantime I would reccomend not ordering from this 'company". Happy Planting!

I have never dealt with a company like this before. They are totally schizo. A nice as can be on the phone, they don't do what they say they will and ignore e-mail, and outright lie to you about what they are sending you. I ordered 2 packs of Tumbler tomato seeds from them which is a compact plant. The ones they sent are over 4 feet tall and still growing. The others plants from those seeds were stunted. I don't think these were fresh seeds or of the variety I ordered. I called them and spoke to their child, and was referred to John. I told him the problem, and I paid for MORE seeds of another variety. I didn't even ask that they replace the others free. John agreed to send them with shipping at his own expense, and I asked that they confirm they got my order. They never replied. Calling there I was told they would go out the next day. Well, it's two weeks and no seeds. Should be 2-3 post office days from where they are. This is a mom and pop operation, but their disregard for their customers is just unbelievable. You would think an operation like this would try harder, but they can't be bothered. If you need seeds, save yourself the aggravation and go elsewhere!

I placed my order on July 22nd, and my Paypal payment was processed on the 25th. I emailed the company on the 28th, 30th, and August 2nd, asking for the status of my order, and received no replies. I also tried to call and got an indistinct message; I left a message on the 29th but got no reply. The package never arrived. Finally, on August 11th I started a Paypal dispute. The money was refunded the next day, with the note: "I did not recieve the order I got all of the orders for that day and the day after and the day before. I do not check PayPal often. I am thinking that the order got sent to a dead address. That has happened more than once." Although I am relieved that the problem was resolved quickly, I am frustrated by the customer service (or lack thereof). I wanted to like this company, and figured that the good reviews for 2008 meant that the company had turned over a new leaf since 2007 (with so many bad reviews) but was disappointed. I will not order from containerseeds.com again.

I made two small orders this season, with just two or three seed packets in each order. In both cases, the seeds reached me within a week (I live in California) and the germination rate has been very good. I also like the website's tone and the personal experiences / suggestions regarding each plant, though I don't know how often it is updated. No problems here -- I'll be ordering again.

Last week I ordered 6 seed packets and, after waiting two days, sent an email asking them to confirm my order. I never received a reply but, 3 days later, the seeds arrived! They were packaged in a padded envelope with a multipage printout of the order. Each unlabeled 2 inch seed packet was in a hand-labeled 4 inch plain envelope. One of my selections was sold out but containerseeds promptly credited my Paypal account without any coaxing from me. I'm a satisfied customer, assuming the seeds germinate acceptably.

I will never order from ContainerSeeds.com again, and neither should you. They're unprofessional, irresponsible, and unresponsive. Here's a summary of my ordeal: 4/22/07-Ordered seeds expecting a 1-2 week turnaround based on prior order from Containerseeds.com. 5/3/07-Emailed customer service concerned that money left my account but no confirmation of my order was ever emailed to me. 5/9/07-Customer service finally emailed me back to say my order was shipped on 4/24 and that shipping normally takes 3 days to a week (customer service also seemed illiterate, stating "who's know's what happened to it between thems"--presumably meaning the Post Office loses things, who the hell knows?). 5/14/07-Emailed customer service to say my order had not arrived. Requested re-shipping. 5/15/07-Customer service responded to my request promising a full refund since my order never arrived. 5/29/07-Wrote to customer service to confirm how and when my refund would arrive. 6/6/07-Still having received neither my order nor my refund, nor even a response about when my refund would arrive, I wrote to customer service again. 6/10/07--No one from ContainerSeeds.com responded to me, so I notified the Better Business Bureau. 6/15/07--I telephoned ContainerSeeds.com to check the status of my order. A very unprofessional male (who was clearly eating and carrying on a separate conversation while talking to me) had no idea what the status of my order was, but said he'd see about getting my refund. 6/15/07--The Better Business Bureau notified me that ContainerSeeds.com responded to *their* request on my behalf for a refund. 6/21/07--I received a personal check for the refund amount, along with a ripped out sheet of spiral notebook paper with a hand written note that said "Dear XXX: Enclosed is your refund of $XX.XX" in worse penmanship than my 2nd graders. So if you're having trouble, notify the BBB and call the company. And next time get seeds elsewhere.

I ordered seeds and used Paypal but never got the order. My account was debited and my emails never answered. After reading the negative reports and similar experiences of other people I tried to call them but their phone was engaged all the time, either off the hook or busy with complaints maybe. This is no way to do business and although my amount was small I asked Paypal to resolve the issue and refund my money. Happy to say this worked and had my account credited. Thank you Paypal, but I am still looking for Tumbler tomato seeds?

I placed an order with this company on 3/14/07. The money was taken from my Paypal account on 3/14/07. I had not received my order by 5/5/07. The web site said the best way to contact them was by e-mail, so I sent an e-mail on 5/5/07 explaining that I had not received my order and would like to know what the status of my order was. I never received a response. On 5/31/07, I called the company and explained that I would like a refund on my order. I was told that I would receive a refund immediately via Paypal. It is 6/2/07 and I have received no refund. It would appear that I was just ripped off for $20.

On March 12 or 13, 2007, I placed a small order with containerseeds.com. My Paypal account was debited for the order on March 13, 2007. I contacted them on March 25, 2007, asking for a tracking on my order. I received no response. I contacted then a second time requesting a refund or response. They contacted me stating that two of my seed choices were out of stock. Since I was planning on starting some of their seeds indoors, I was disappointed, but responded to them that I would try to be patient. I now have most of my garden planted and still have received no seeds, or estimated delivery date, or any other updating correspondence from containerseeds.com. I contacted them today requesting an immediate full refund on my order. It appears that containerseeds.com is one of those companies that used to do a good job, but no longer does. I do not intend to deal with contanerseeds.com again. Duane Werner

On February 23rd, 2008, lfwbrdgwm added the following: Update February 2008: I contacted ContainerSeeds again and explained my problem last year. They responded that the post office screwed up several of their orders. They also offered to refund or credit my purchase amount. I requested the refund and received it a week or so later. I still don't plan to order from them again until I see a better track record, but at least they did honor last year's mees up.

On March 20 I placed an order for 7 packs of seeds and paid with PayPal. I received my PayPal receipt shortly after my purchase. And then the wait began. I attempted one email but didn't expect a response after reading the other comments here. I waited some more, nothing. I finally called last week (end of week of April 2). The phone was answered by a very nice man who stated that they had been having problems receiving PayPal payments and he would have another person give me a call regarding this. I never received a call. Today, April 10, my seeds arrived minus 1 pack that I had ordered. They had been shipped yesterday so the shipping time was quick. My husband called to let them know that one pack was missing and the gentleman he spoke to was very polite and said that the seeds were backordered and they would send them out as soon as they come in. I am giving this a neutral because of lack of communication and not giving it a negative because the people have been very polite to deal with on the phone.

I placed an online order with Container Seeds on March 15, 2007. Never got a response to my order. The site says they'll send the seeds by US Mail when the money is received. That should mean a week in transit at the very longest, from PA to GA. My bank shows PayPal got the money on 3/16 but I didn't get a notice from PayPal until 3/20. No seeds have arrived. I emailed them on 3/27 asking if they'd sent the order, since they say on the site that email is the quickest way to get questions answered. No response. I sent another email this morning and no response again as of yet. I haven't called yet. They've no toll-free number. Not answering reasonable requests for information about a late order is inexcusable.

On April 3rd, 2007, anney added the following: Update... I received an email response on March 29 saying the seeds were mailed on 3/20. Nine days is an awfully long time for first class mail delivery within the continental US, which is always sent by air carriers for long distances. The seeds still haven't arrived, so I emailed them for the 3rd time today about this order. What a contrast -- I placed an order with TGS on March 29, and it arrived today in the mail.
On April 10th, 2007, anney added the following: Update I emailed Container Seeds again since the seeds didn't arrive. No response. So I called on Wednesday, April 4, and spoke to a very nice young man. Explained the problem. He said he'd have to look it up on the computer, so I gave him the information, my name, what I ordered and when, what I paid. He asked if I wanted my money returned or the order filled. I told him I wanted the order filled, and asked him to contact me by email when he'd found the info. on the computer later that day. No email, so I called again on Friday, April 6. He told me he couldn't find any information about my order in their computer and said they'd send me a check for the amount I paid. I can't be the only one this is happening to.
On April 13th, 2007, anney added the following: Received my check yesterday. Really disappointed that they didn't send the order for small lettuce and tomatoes that I'd planned for my grandson's garden. It's too late to order them from anywhere else now, since he'll be gone when they'd mature. What a bummer!

After hearing many good things about containerseeds.com, I was surprised and disappointed in the service I received. I placed an online order via the website on April 25th at 8:00 PM... I recieved no acknowledgement of the order, other than PayPal's receipt. I emailed on April 27th asking when I can expect my order (included all the order information as well as the PayPal receipt). That email went unanswered. I sent the exact same email on April 29th, again it went unanswered. I sent the email again on the May 1st...I finally received a response and was told that the order shipped on the 25th....hmmmm....i questioned that, beacuse I'd placed the order at 8:00 PM on the 25th. ..I was then told that my order was personally delivered to the Post Office on the 27th. I emailed again on the 3rd...still no seeds...no response. I recieved the seeds on the 4th...post marked the 3rd !!! I received the seeds 9 days after ordering... I live just 20 miles away !!!! As a consolation I was sent a few extra seeds, which I didn't need. I emailed on the 4th stating that a credit or refund of the postage would have been more appropriate....as of 5/12/06 I've yet to get a response. I will not do business with this company again..

I placed and order online with the company on April 7, 2006 and was charged that day. It is now May 2, 2006 and I have still not received my order. I was sent an email 2 weeks ago stating that some items I had requested were on backorder and had just come in, therefore my order had shipped on April 19, 2006, however, I never received my order, or a reply to my last email informing them that I still had not received the seeds, and asking for a full refund. I placed and order with Baker Creek seeds on April 13, 2006, and received it on April 19, 2006. I am very disappointed with the poor customer service of this company.

On May 2nd, 2006, kanita changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: 8:14am Just spoke with a gentleman at containerseeds.com, and he informed me that he will send me a refund, but he doesn't know what happened to the order. That still doesn't explain not getting a response or some sort of contact before this. I understand that things happen as I own and operate a mail order business myself, but I never ever not respond to customer concerns, so that part of the situation is still disappointing. I will await my refund for now.

Fast shipping! I purchased a starter kit, which is very nicely put together and economical. I'm a newbie, and the web site is very informative and helpful. I'm so excited about using screens to cover drainage holes! I never would have thought of that. Very detailed instructions are included with the water-holding crystals. Great company!

Product shipped fast, was exactly what I ordered, double envelopes, clearly marked. I was thrilled to find them - they've got a great niche market. Even though I've got a garden, having containers have several benefits including having the veggies close at hand, being able to bring them in in incliment weather, keeping them away from the slugs, etc. I'll definitely buy from them again, as I've had such a positive experience with them. Areas for improvement: In order for containerseeds.com to grow and stay ahead of copycats, etc., I'd like to see them have either specific growing instructions, or a forum where others can offer their experiences with their plants (and have a link within the description of the plant that opens a new window to this area).

I just recently recieved my first order from this company. The seeds were well packaged and they arrived in a timely fashion. The free gift seed packet was nice, too! Thanks! All the seeds germinated fine and the seedlings are healthy and happy -- with the exception of the eggplants, which the cat managed to get into and eat. Thankfully I had enough seeds saved to start new ones! In all, I'm very pleased with my order and with the concept of this company. Gardening in containers is very easy and fun to do, and for some people it is the only way to have a garden. Nice to see a company that recognizes this and offers such an interesting variety for container growers.

The seeds I ordered came quickly. I liked the varieties available and the descriptions on the site. The seeds are now sprouting well -- both the (colder-tolerant) ones I planted outdoors and the others I've started in the basement. I sent a question about growing nasturtiums to Pat and she answered right away with suggestions and instructions (and offered a refund/replacement if they didn't work out!) I am impressed with this company and would HIGHLY recommend it!

While this is a tiny, tiny company (seed packets have some hand writing labels on them.... labels are legibile though :) ) ..... the service is excellent and the prices are average. The selection is not huge but interesting.... All seeds are not just for containers many can be planted out doors.... I received my order promptly and in immaculate condition.... now let me grow the plants out and tell you what I think after that.... of germination and id. :)

Company representative comment on February 23, 2005:

(This isn't a rebuttal, really.)

I agree, and we're going include direction sheets with the seeds as soon as we can. As a new firm, we just haven't been able to manage it yet.

There are directions on our website.

Thanks for the nice rating (and to the other folks also).

I so enjoy receiving their well-written, informative newsletters by email! As Container Seeds (just opened as of this writing) matures as an online source, I expect the planting information provided will expand and become more consolidated; the only thing I would want them to improve on is making it a little easier to access this information.
