Posted on April 25, 2010, updated July 13, 2010 Posted on November 21, 2009, updated April 25, 2010 I am very very pleased with my contacts with Waters BB Farm. Back in August I sent the owner a question about growing blueberries in my zone in Ohio. Matt send an over two page response-which I have since forwarded to several friends, explaining blueberry planting, cultivation, and soil requirements. He suggested three different plants fruiting throughout the summer. Then, I promptly forgot abut the site. Last week I looked up his site again, and to my delight the two year old plants were on sale. I again called Matt to ask a couple questions, but actually ordered before he called back. The plantrs arrived yesterday. Large, healthy and iwith very good-sized rootballs. Will be planting today, according to directions, and looking forward to some blueberries next summer. With the good customer service prior to my order, I feel certain that Matt will be there should I need any more information or consultation. Thanks so much Waters Farm!

On April 25th, 2010, clpgirl added the following: Just wanted to add that all three bushes came through an erratic, hard, cold winter beautifully. They have lots of buds, and have grown quite steadily. I couldn't be more pleased. Thanks all at Waters Farm!
On July 13th, 2010, clpgirl added the following: Another hearfelt thank you. I can't tell you how exciting it was picking and eating warm blueberries off my own plants! In fact, since everyone who came through my garden had to try just one, which led to two , three etc. my first personal harvest was quite limited! You were absolutely accurate in your statement that we would harvest about a handful and a half per plant this year. Unfortunately a local critter, am guessing rabibit also decided to share, gracefully removing the last of the mid-summer berries, and apparently enjoying the late summer green ones as well. Oh well, next year will be more prepared to protect the harvest! Plants remain very healthy, growing quite consistendly and am looking forward to next summer's larger harvest. Sweet and wonderful. Just wish I had more room.............You all are the best!

I ordered 50 1 yr bluecrop and 50 1 yr elliot plants. They were delivered mid April after a phone call changing the shipping date (we had an early warn spell that I wanted to take advantage of). It's now mid July and the plants look fine (there were even blossoms on the bluecrop that, sadly, sigh, I pinched off). I'm looking forward to many years of production after this good start.

I decided to try my hand at blueberries this year. I ordered 2 Bluecrop, 1 Elliot and 1 Duke all 2 year plants. I got them in 3 days of it being shipped. They were in EXCELLENT condition, nice green leaves, moist soil/root ball, and healthy looking berries. It took me a couple of days to get them in the ground, I was nervous but I did as I was asked and followed the directions for planting as best as I could. I am so pleased with these trees, I now have FAT, HUGE, BLUE - BLUEBERRIES and it's only been 21 days since planting them. I can't wait to see what the future holds for these shrubs - they are exactly what they say they will be if you follow their directions. I am so pleased that I took a chance and went with Waters Blueberry Farm! Definitely referring them to some friends and family who used me as the guinea pig lol!

I ordered a three year old "Duke" blueberry plant this spring. It arrived with three long canes, one of which stands on its own, two of which are laying in the grass. There were two other small sticks that never blossomed, I removed them this past weekend. One of the canes laying down had roots growing out about halfway up the branch where it had laid in the field in an attempt to root itself. The only leaf growth is limited to the top 6 inches of each willowy branch. So far there has been no new shoots of growth, only budding leaves. There are exactly 8 blueberries on two different clumps. I planted 3 other small plants purchased from other online sources and a big box retailer- all three are covered in new growth shoots and leaves and maturing berries. I did email my dissatisfaction to the Waters farm and was asked to send pics. Rather than get involved in that I chalked it up to a lesson learned. I plan on trimming it down to the ground and hoping it comes back in bush form. This was my experience.

I bought 6 4-5' blueberry bushes from Waters Blueberry farm about 1.5 months ago. When they arrived, It was basically just long stems with very little root and very few leaves. The leaves were showing winter colors although it was spring and some of the tips of the plants were dying off blackening upon receipt. I contacted them, send them photos and they said it is just because it is colder where they are located and I must wait. Unfortunately, a month and more went by and they are just dying back now with up to 2' black stems. I called again and was told to speak to Matt. As I called Matt, he was extremely defensive and argumentative getting rude trying to talk over me with Sir..sir...sir etc whenever I wanted to say something which he seemingly did not want to hear. I made it clear to Matt that I am not looking for money back, and that I just want to get this resolved. He then blamed the soil I used which was Miracle Grow for acid loving plants such as blueberries. He now blames all on this, never mind that I also bought blueberry bushes from SEARS Warrenton VA at less the Waters price, planted it the same way and I have a bumper crop of blueberries already. Matt seemingly terminated the call as the phone went dead and trying to reach him again there was only voicemail and no callback showing the cut line was probably intentional. Since I did not ask for money back, the reader can make up his mind about where to buy from. e.g. SEARS or local nurseries with proper root balls which grows happily in the same miracle grow soil or Waters Farm, where in my opinion plants die back from the day you plant them due to too small root systems and generally very weak plants. I wrote this after trying to resolve the issue with Waters Blueberry Farms. The webpage did look nice and trustworthy. Your choice.

Dear Showgarden

I am sorry for your bad experience with our blueberry farm. I did personally take your phone call today and listened to your concerns.

As our warranty clearly states, you need to follow our specific growing and planting recipe so your blueberry plants thrive. We have over 15,000 customers growing our blueberry plants all over the nation. The ingredients for this recipe are found at Lowe's or Walmart type stores all throughout the nation.

You did not use the soil we grow our plants in and recommend. This specific soil has the correct acidity. This specific soil is clearly stated on our growing and planting instructions in bold black lettering. Your failure to use this specific soil is the reason your plants are performing poorly.

I apologize that our cell phone call was lost.

I am disheartened to read your hurtful comments. Our family farm happens to grow and sell high quality blueberry plants only because our primary focus is to be honest and Christ-like.

Sincerely

I have ordered plants from this company before and have had nothing but positive experiences as has most, almost all....It bothers me when people "bash" good companies run by good people. It seems like we should promoting our best mail-order sources, rather than demoting them. Keep in mind, just because a person says something about a company doesn't mean it's true, especially when the source is more bitter than "he" is willing to resolve a "suspect " situation in a positive way. Our comments should better serve the gardening community and not an individual ego. Walk tall, Waterberry!

Posted on May 4, 2010, updated May 19, 2010 My experience with Matt Waters Blueberry Farm was very negative. I purchased nearly $5,000 worth of 5yr old blueberry plants from Matt back last October. THEY WERE INFECTED WITH AMBROSIA BETTLE. I took a sample to the U.K. research center and they identified the pest. They also said they had to be infected when I purchased the plants because they over winter in the branches and emerge in the Spring. Matt was not willing to even listen to my problem. He was in no way hepful. STAY AWAY FROM WATERS BLUEBERRY FARM!

On May 19th, 2010, johnberry added the following: Matt, the U.K. Research Center fndings will be mailed to you today. The plants I bought from you are being destroyed due to the insect infestation. I have 4,000 blueberry plants in containers and another 1,000 in the ground. The 100 plants I bought from you are the Only ones that have the beetles. Do the math! I will gladly take a refund check and you can come get your infested plants.

Dear John
I did personally take your phone call last week. I am sorry for your negative experience. I asked that you send me a copy of the University findings on a University letterhead. Ambrosia beetle is typically found in dense hardwood forests. Our farm is in the Kansas City metropolitan area.
We pride ourselves on providing excellent customer service. I personally delivered your blueberry plants in our company truck to your nursery in rural Kentucky. The blueberry plants you purchased produced berries several months before delivery. We have all of our blueberry plants State Inspected in the spring and fall every year. We have never had any reports from State Inspectors or any of our 15,000 customers of any ambrosia beetle.
Please send us your university findings.
We apologize for this inconvenience.
Thanks you for your time.

Matt is a very nice person to do business with. The blueberry plants all came in as promised. Once we planted them they all did very well except one. I told Matt about the problem that the top was dead but the plant was coming back from the root. This was fine with us but Matt said it wasn't what we ordered and he sent a replacement plant that was already blooming. Excellent people to do business with they go above and beyond for the customer. Thank you.

I ordered 9 three year old plants. 3 of each type. They arrived in good shape: very tall, nice green leaves, even some blossoms. The roots seemed well developed with lots of very fine root ends extending throughout the peat moss. Matt was very helpful in answering my questions about planting, zones, shipping, etc. I planted them the same day and they appear to be doing well. It's only been three days so its a little early to tell. But, I am very hopeful about these plants producing lots of good tasting blueberries. I would definitely order again. After I ordered my plants I looked at blueberry bushes at the local nursery's and box stores here in idaho falls, idaho. There was no comparison. For $25 each, I got 4 foot tall blueberry bushes from Waters Blueberry Farm. Whereas locally all I was finding was 1 year old blueberry bushes not even a foot tall for $20. I thought Water's pricing and customer service were great.

My plants arrived this week according to my shipping instructions. I received a shipping confirmation so I was ready ahead of time. The plants were healthy with intact rootballs (not bareroot). One Bluecrop already has buds on it. Planting instructions were thorough and sent both in a confirmation email and with the plants. Matt offered free shipping with a minimum order. I feel I got a good value for my money. Certainly the best plant purchase I've made so far this spring. I would certainly recommend Waters Blueberry Farms to others.

Posted on March 23, 2010, updated April 8, 2010 Posted on October 3, 2009, updated March 23, 2010 I bought an extra large and a 3 year old Blueberry from Waters. I requested shipping 9/21, and he did. Both of them arrived promptly, and they are both 4 ft tall with plenty of healthy roots, stems and growth. I have not had to call with any questions about my plants, but it's nice to Matt is there if you need to. I've paid a lot less for berry bushes, and received dinky 3 or 4 inch plants, that didn't make it. With Matt Walters, you get what you pay for.

On March 23rd, 2010, artworksmetal added the following: Spring is here, and after a lousy winter, my plants look great! The old vines are budding like crazy, and there are new shoots coming up as well. I'm looking forward to blueberries my first year.
On April 8th, 2010, artworksmetal added the following: I could not resist. I ordered 4 more plants on Tuesday. They were shipped the same day for Saturday delivery. Four healthy, supple, 3 foot tall plants with nice root balls showed up on schedule. I'm very pleased. No, I don't work for Matt Waters. It's just so rare with internet ordering for a supplier to exceed my expectations.

I've only placed 1 order with these folks but I was quite impressed. The size & roots were beyond what I'm used to seeing from 2yr old plants. I was very impressed & I'm happy to read comments from others regarding feedback from the owner from digital pictures. Very refreshing to hear.

I am very pleased with my interactions with Matt, at Waters Blueberry Farm. Matt the owner is a pleasure to deal with. I ordered 3, three-year-old plants of three different varieties back in April 2009. The packaging was excellent! The prices were extremely reasonable. I received my order on the date promised. I couldn't believe the high quality of plants that were sent. They exceeded my expectations. In addition to the email confirmation of delivery, Matt sent two pages of information explaining blueberry cultivation, soil requirements and planting instructions. The plants leafed out and bloomed in the summer and actually had some fruit. When I had problems with a couple of my plants. I sent Matt a picture of my plants and within a day had his response on what the problem was, how to resolve the issue and a link to his website for common problems with blueberry plant to help if any additional problems occurred in the future. Matt will pick up the phone or return your call if you leave a voice message. He is friendly and approachable. When dealing with Matt, I have never felt like my problem was insignificant or like I was not his most important client. I recommend Waters Blueberry Farms to anyone interested in getting quality plants and excellent service both before and after their purchase.

Although the owner does p/u the phone, the 3 plants I got had relatively tiny root balls. I also bought 3 potted blueberry plants from a local nursery for half the price with much bigger root balls. I had to stake two of Waters' plants to keep them upright. The owner later claimed they all have small root balls. I cared for all the plants the same, followed all instructions and two of the three from Waters' died whereas all the locally sold ones are thriving. It was maybe two-three months from delivery date hat I asked Waters' for a replacement and it was denied. He said maybe if I'd kept in closer touch letting him know of the plants' decline he may have helped, which made no sense to me. They died very quickly (within 10 days). Meanwhile the local nursery (Outdoor specialties in Watkinsville, GA) has treated me like gold (I bought several others from them since).

Dear jpjpjp
We are sorry for your bad experience with our family farm. As we grow and sell just blueberry plants, we focus our time on providing excellent customer service. We rely on timely communications of our many thousand customers in regards to warranty concerns.

We have a very simple warranty.
"If notified within 30 days of delivery that your plant died, and you followed our enclosed written and verbal instructions, we will replace that plant. We do not refund money. We are available by phone or email for the life of your blueberry plant to answer questions."

Since you waited beyond 30 days to notify us of your plants death, we asked you for a digital picture of your blueberry plants to verify.
We are still waiting for a digital picture or polaroid of your plants as we politely asked of you via email.
After we have a picture, and verify if you followed our growing instructions, we can proceed with a replacement deal.

Thank you for this rebuttal.

I ordered 3 blueberry bushes from them. I was very happy with the bushes they came with peat moss on the roots and all were leafed out not bareroot. I talked to the owner on the phone a few times and everytime he was very helpful with explanations on how to grow blueberries as this was my first time. He always took the time. One of my blueberry bushes started to lose its leaves and I called him back to see if it was normal. He told me to send a picture to him. Within hours of sending the email of the plant he emailed me back and said that it wasnt healthy and was sending a replacement. I wasnt even asking for a replacement as the bush hasnt totally died and might even come back. The other bush I have already has blueberries growing on it. My whole experience has been a positive.

I ordered 2 - 2 year old Elliot and 2 - 3 year old Duke blueberry bushes in January. They immediately sent me a confirmation with a shipping date suitable for my region and detailed planting and care instructions. I was very pleased when they arrived. The plants were bigger than I expected with a great root system and were packed well. They are now leafing out and I can see a couple of flower buds on the 3 year old bushes. This company has been an absolute pleasure to work with. They mistakenly shipped 4 bushes of the same variety in a recent gift order placed by a relative (instead of 2 each of 2 varieties). Responded promptly to an inquiry, and once they received digital pictures (needed for them to determine what they had actually shipped), they cheerfully promised to ship the 2 other plants the next day. The 4 plants that did arrive look terrific -- large and sturdy, well wrapped and shipped. We look forward to getting the other two (even ordered a third variety while I was at it), and will enjoy them, I'm sure. I highly recommend this company -- cheerful, gracious customer service and sturdy, healthy plants. A wonderful experience all around.

Ordering was a very good experience because the owners actually answer the phone and freely share helpful information. When was the last time the owner of a company took your order over the phone? I received 12 large, healthy, carefully-packed plants. They recommended timing the shipment to avoid a weekend layover en route to my part of the country. Water's Blueberry Farms have some of the most beautiful and healthy blueberry plants I've seen sold commercially. In addition, they're excellent business-people. I ordered from them on the basis of a recommendation on another website, and had trouble paying them through Paypal (due to problems Paypal was having). The Waters contacted me almost immediately by email, then called me by phone to complete the order. The plants arrived very, very quickly --- and they were beautiful, lush, healthy - just wonderful. And a great price. These guys get a definite recommendation. They're wonderful!
