I LOVE Mc Kenzie Farms. Stanly has only given me the best of customer service. I am trying out his cold hardy citrus in Utah and having some success. He sends me anything I order immediately and responds to all my follow up emails with good sound advise and encouragement. I would recommend this company in a heart beat and I have every intention of buying again. Thank You Stan!

We can't be happier with McKenzie Farms. Smaller operation, but has a lot of options for the weird buyer. Pawpaws, Loquats, loooooooads of citrus, Pomegranates, Feijoa, and lots of flowers only to name a few. Prices are really good. Service and suggestions are friendly. Also offers produce. We can't wait to make the trek back next year. Thank you Stan!

I tested out his nursery reputation by tried to order 2 citrangequat trees but they were out of stock, then I asked to order seeds. He agreed and stated to send out 40-50 citrangequat seeds for $10. He then contacted me to claim that citrangequat was nearly seedless, so he could only collect 15 seeds. I was so nice to agree with him for 15 instead of 40-50 seeds as he promised. It took very long to received the small package of 16 ridiculousy small and bad seeds covered in mold that I had to discard away to prevent the spread of mold in my house. I contacted him and he responded back saying "you could have planted them anyway.. Im sure they would still germ even with the mold. I have planted molded citrus seeds many times in years past and they will still grow. If you can retrieve them from the trash. plant them anyway.. they should be fine. Sorry the post office took two weeks to deliver this package! Stan" I know it is not worth it to do anything for $10, I was appreciated him very much until I finally figured it out that his nursery was so irresponsible. As a professional citrus grower, don't he know that mold pore could spread and became a problem the environment inside the house. Never come back. I blocked his email as well.

On June 4th, 2019, lavender87 changed the rating from negative to positive and added the following: I would like to remove this comment but it does not allow me to remove it; however, I already changed the feedback to positive. I followed his advice and retrieved those seeds from the trash to test to see if they really can germinate as he claimed, and yes one seed did and mold spreaded all over the surface of the pot soil. The only seed germinated about 2 months ago and still survived til now though not very vigorous. I still wanted to appologize to Mr. Mckenzie about frustrated comment. It finally not totally his fault, but in my opinion he should have washed the seeds thoroughly or treated with mild bleech before packing. Anyway, just wantd to say "I am sorry".

I live in Wilmington, NC and am starting a food forest on my lot. As Wilmington is in Zone 8a, I wanted to try and grow citrus but I couldn't find anyone in Wilmington that had citrus trees growing outside. I came across McKenzie Farms while cruising the interwebs and I just can't express how happy I was that I found a person who lives near me, just on the hairy edge of the temperate climate zone, dedicating their life to cultivating beautiful, cold hardy citrus. The owner, Stan, was kind, knowledgeable, and generous to me. I've never met someone so excited about citrus and I had a blast as he toured me around his place, showing me all the wonderful rare fruit trees he's cultivating. I left McKenzie farms with 2 paw paws, 2 Satsuma madarins (Brown), grapefruit (bloomsweet), lime (persian), ichang lemon, yuzu lemon, orangquat (nippon), and pineapple guava. It's been several days and I'm already seeing new growth on each plant. I'm very happy with my experience and will be back in the future (with my eye on tanegrines and citrangquats)! -Michael

This week my wife and I went to visit Stan at his farm. We purchased 2 different satsuma varieties and 2 meyer lemons. We also purchased a yellow/orange canna and a jelly palm. I live nearly 200 miles away and could easily have had the plants shipped to my home. I also could have purchased from another vendor for close to the same price. However, I prefer to have that 1 on 1 conversation with a seller that has decades of experience and the patience to answer all my dumb questions. Stan is that kind of seller. He truly loves his business and it shows in the quality of the plants and his customer service.

Posted on November 5, 2016, updated November 7, 2016 Its hard to contact him, its been a few days and there is no response. Tried to ask him what do the plants look like for a type of plant that wasn't listed on his website and he said "Yeah we have only 1 left in stock" and i asked (1st time because he said they sprayed a strong pesticide on them) can i see the photo and then he just stops talking to me. It was easy to contact him but he just stops contacting. Charges me 20 dollars (+10 for shipping) for a plant that has been spayed with a STRONG PESTICIDE, if the plant is that messed up why not give a discount?

I purchased some citrus trees from Stan last summer, along with a fig, kiwi, and pomegranate. The citrus trees were gorgeous, as well as the other plants. But, the lime and lemon trees actually produced fruit last summer! I was amazed, as most nurseries say it takes a couple of years. Alas, even though I put them into a little hobby greenhouse, something happened and the trees died, certainly no fault of MCKENZIE FARMS, but my lack of knowledge. I am ordering several more for this year. Stan is also a great person to talk to and ask advice on the care and growth of citrus trees. He is meticulous in how he packs the trees. They came to me beautifully wrapped and packaged. I will order my citrus trees from Stan, always.

Stan is the citrus man. Wanted an early maturing Satsuma and Stan personally took the time to help me with exactly what I wanted. In 3 days the tree was on my doorstep, and came with at least 20 fruit already on it. Been a week and it hasn't shed the first leaf. Plan to stop by Mckenzie Farms On my way to the beach this summer. Great job Stan and thanks a million. Jeff

McKenzie Nursery really needs to be a DG "Top Five". I spoke with Mr. McKenzie both by phone and email. He was very quick to respond to my voicemail and to email. He was extremely friendly and helpful. He took my order directly, shipped the plant the next day (Friday), and I received it on Monday. It was healthy and in excellent condition. In addition to the excellent service and healthy plant, the prices are unbeatable. Similar plants from other nurseries were 2 - 3 times the price. I'll be placing all of my future orders for hardy citrus with Mr McKenzie!

I have placed two orders with this company, last Spring (2010) and this Spring. Both times the orders were taken directly by the owner of the company , Stan McKenzie, who also confirmed shipping directly by personal email (not computer generated form "confirmation" like most other businesses) The citrus trees I have received have been well packed and in great condition. This is not a re-seller. They grow everything they sell on their family farm.

With the help of Stan, there, we selected and ordered several grafted-hybrid citrus trees. (Kumquats and varients that we'll use as container plants, since we're Zone 5 here.) They arrived very promptly, and very well packed. This was all the more surprising since the shipping charges were rather modest. Because of his methods of packing, the trees actually arrived with a number of very delicate looking blooms still intact! We have been burnt in the past trying internet orders of trees, but I have to say this transaction with McKenzie has renewed our faith. Proof that at least a few very, very good firms remain in this industry, and we will order again from them. Ron Pickrell, Unitek Instruments, Inc. Columbus, Ohio

Stan is indeed "the man" :) Since leaving southern California, I have badly wanted to grow citrus (as well as palm trees) in the southeast, where I live now, but was only able to find pathetic, mostly inedible citrus trees that when shipped looked rather sad. And of course since no one at the nurseries I looked into knew much about growing cold-hardy citrus, I didn't know how to grow or protect what I'd ordered. But then I came across McKenzie Farms! Stan was extremely helpful not only in helping me choose a good starter tree for my area (Athens, GA, which is borderline 7b/8a) but selecting a place to plant it and lots of advice on how to take care of it. He suggested an LA Early satsuma mandarin, given that it should ripen before we get our first real freezes here. As a really nice bonus, the tree came well branched out WITH FRUIT ON IT--6 small green mandarins that will hopefully give us fruit this October. That unexpected but generous touch really made my day as I opened the carefully packed and extremely healthy looking tree. Thanks, Stan! I will be ordering again--as many trees as my wife will let me plant around the house ;) John

Absolutely positive. I ordered four trees for maximum hardiness here in MA, after e-mailing him for advice and help in deciding the best ones. I thought all citrus was tropical, but there are many that can take the cold down around 0 degrees F! I have an attached garage with a big window that stays above 25 all winter even when it is -15 outside. I wish I could plant them outside like him in South Carolina, but pots will have to do. They just arrived and were perfectly packed for the trip - the soil stayed in the pots and the stems were well protected. My e-mails were answered very quickly, even one time when he was on the road out of town. Next time I want to order some 10 degree tangerines.

The trees arrived in EXCELLENT shape and just as described by Stan (large, healthy and as good condition as a local nursery). Stan had taken a lot of trouble to pack it just right so that the plants wouldnt suffer the long trip from South Carolina. Its been about a week since I got the plants and they are doing very nicely. Since I only live about 80 miles from McKenzie farms, while on a field trip with my daughters elementary school, decided to try an stop by the farms on our way home to check it out. This is a family operation and Stan McKenzie is an excellent teacher and very knowledgeable. We got a nice tour, bought a 10 degree Tangerine to plant at home and even got a lesson on how to bud graft.
