There used to be two guys there, one was very helpful and outgoing, really knew his stuff. Apparently he is gone now. The owner can be surly and doesn't really act like he wants to help you that much and, over time, has given me information that I later learned was false. I still go every year when I go to the Flower Factory but since the one guy left, every year the place gets less kempt, it's very disorganized, older plants are very root bound and overgrown in pots, prices are higher than other nurseries and garden centers now carrying better selections. Be careful and buy what looks like product new that year, I have purchased plants obviously held over for more than one year that are seriously root bound and they have done poorly. It's like big box stores, you can find good plants if you get the very new stuff but you will pay for it as well. Check out K&W Greenery in Janesville, Ebert's Greenhouse Village in Ixonia, Minors in Milwaukee, Johnson's Nursery near Milwaukee - they have greatly expanded their conifer selections. Because of bad experiences with root bound plants here and some false information/advice (he offers NO!!!!!! guarantees!!!!), I am now going to Rich's Fox Willow Pines in Woodstock, IL for the harder to find, rare and unusual conifers. If you are going to pay a premium price, his quality and selection are superior. And they are really nice, outgoing people!

They have a great selection of unique conifers. The owner is very knowledgeable and helpful though he may be hard to get a hold of on the phone. I've purchased a lot of conifers here and plan to continue to in the future!

I visited Stonewall Nursery, in Oregon, WI., for the first time in the summer of 2007 and was amazed by the variety of nursery stock that is offered. If you're looking for the unusual, this is the place to find it! Stonewall has a large assortment of unusual dwarf and full-sized conifers as well as deciduous trees and shrubs in sizes ranging from one-gallon to B&B (Balled and Burlapped). This was the only nursery I could find that listed Tsuga canadensis 'Tiny Leaf Upright' (a very fastigiate form of Canadian/Eastern hemlock). While on a garden tour in Iowa, one of the gardens had a specimen of 'Tiny Leaf Upright' and I just had to have it (I have a smallish garden so I like to plant narrow-growing plants). The owner of the garden stated that he had received the plant at a conifer society convention many years earlier, as a small plant, and he did not know where to find the plant for sale. A Google search led me to Stonewall Nursery. If you are within a few hours drive of Stonewall Nursery, it is well worth the time and money, for gas, to visit. You won't be disappointed. p.s. be sure to bring a trailer so you can transport all of your purchases. (:o)

Stonewall Nursery specializes in Dwarf & unusual Evergreens. This nursery is a small-but growing owner operated company & he carries the most unique & well cared for plants I have ever seen. Definate thumbs up. He also has great wholesale contacts in the west; so that he is given priority over others in size & quantity & if there is only a few, he may well be the only to receive.
