Deer-Resistant Landscape Nursery

Plants arrived healthy and well packed; however, the size of the plants was very disappointing given the price. A $21 lenten rose arrived with two leaves and for $15 and $9 i received a 2" lavender and 3" euphorbia respectively. Given the condition of some mail order plants and the abundance of disease at the local garden center, i'd say it is a wash. Not sure if i would use them again unless i couldn't find something anywhere else.

I have ordered low-grow sumac from this company two years in a row. The plants came as described and were well-packaged. The sumac has been planted on a steep, west-facing slope that has heavy clay soil, and experiences both occasional drought-like conditions and cold, strong wind. Last year, when I had a question about planting and potential frost, Dave took the time to make sure I received plants that had wintered outside. Of the 72 plants I have ordered, only one has died. I am very impressed and will be ordering more.

Ordered several Snow in Summer perennials and Japanese painted ferns in spring 2017. While the Snow in Summer plants were smaller than I had hoped for, the ferns were larger than I expected, so overall I was happy with my order. All plants arrived in great shape and were packaged very well. Highly recommended.

I ordered a single plant of the cultivar that is not easy to find at this time of the year. It arrived quickly and intact as if it was never in the mail! The company has the best packaging I've ever seen and I've ordered from quite a few excellent nurseries. The plant is healthy and looks wonderful.

I ordered three plants of Agastache 'Kudos Coral' and later added two more. The plants arrived today in excellent condition and look wonderful. Communication was very good as well. It was an excellent experience, and I would order from this company again.

Posted on April 23, 2015, updated April 25, 2015 I do not have deer issues - my only issue was finding a source for Nepeta Dawn to Dusk, my favorite nepeta and one that grew readily at my former home (I had at least 20) but does not where I am now (two have stayed two). For whatever reason it is hard to find, so I was delighted when I found it on the site of this nursery. Better yet, I received nice 5 inch pots, and instructions that it had already been hardened off so I was free to plant it immediately. This is an excellent experience and I will be back.

Posted on April 7, 2012, updated June 28, 2013 I ordered Tanacetum 'Isla Gold' from this company after the original supplier I ordered them from did not receive their allotted shipment. I ordered them on Thursday (April 5) and received them today (April 7). Now that is lightning fast service! Plants were very nice and healthy and just coming out of dormancy. Living in urban Chicago, deer are not much of a problem for me, but I feel for all the gardeners out there who have to deal with those pests. If the owner of this company ever decides to start a Squirrel-Resistant Landscape Nursery, I would be all over it! :-)

I purchased deer fencing (Max strength) and found them to have the best quality and price (shipping included in price!!!) of any I could find online or local. Customer service also was excellent (thanks again, Dave!). Ask about their 3% discount for payment by check. Also received the samples and the ordered item quickly. I have not installed the fencing yet but judging from the "sight and feel" of the product and compared to other products I checked out, I have no reason to think that the actual performance will disappoint.

Shipped very promptly with shipping tracking information. Plants arrived very nicely packaged and look nice and healthy. Very courteous service too.

I have ordered twice from Deer-Resistant Landscape, once in the spring and again late summer. The first order was huge, over 100 North Star boxwoods plus others. Good communication with Dave, and plants were delivered very well packaged, no damage and absolutely beautiful. All tolled, I have ordered and planted over 150 shrubs from Deer-Resistant Landscape and have had only 1 plant that didn't make it. I'll take those odds any day. Great experience!

I highly recommend this company. I placed an order for 3 Pink Frost Hellebores. They quickly responded by email and sent my order out the same day. It arrived quickly and was well packaged. The plants were large and in excellent condition. Top notch!

I placed my first order with this company only a few days ago and today I received my package with the really nice planter and my Hakonechloa naomi and my Fairy Candles cimicifuga plants, the plants are a nice size well rooted and well packaged. The planter is just as shown and described and exactly what I expected. I don't have deer issues in my neighborhood but I liked their offerings and prices with reasonable shipping costs. I really didn't have any need to call customer service, so all in all I will order from them again.

I received my first order from this company today and am very pleased. The plants (Potentilla) were a good size and very well rooted. Their packing was excellent, using a minimum amount of packing material (glory be!). Definitely a nursery to keep in mind for future orders.

I ordered from DR landscape for the first time and I am very pleased with the plants they sent and especially the packaging! Their shipping cost is very reasonable and the prices are low.. I have gotten plants from other nurseries that were thrown into plastic bags, stuffed in a box with styrofoam peanuts, sent bare in a box, moldy, dried out and worse. DR plants were the best packed I had ever seen - sturdy box seemingly specially designed to hold the plants - no crunched leaves, no dirt falling out, all moist and happy in there. The Rhamnus "Fineline" looked like a stick with a topknot when I got it but it is showing some growth now. I ordered 3 Kerria (which they said were small) that looked fine and 3 Acanthopanax, also looking good. They were easy to deal with and the plants arrived when they said the would. Try them - you'll like them!

Recently while reading a posting from a trusted regular on the Northeast Garden Forum, I saw that he recommended Deer Resistant Landscape Nursery as a good source for Hellebore. I check out their list and was impressed, so I put in a late order for some. I received the plants, plus a couple of other selections that I couldn't resist ordering too, in exceptionally fast time. What I received was exceptional too. They were wonderful healthy plants, sent in a perfectly devised shipping package from an obviously first rate online source that I will be ordering from again and again. I enjoyed receiving great personal email communication from them as well. Bambi Be Damned!

In June-July 2010, I ordered first one, then two additional Japanese Painted Ferns in 5" pots from Deer-Resistant Plants. In each instance, my on-line order was acknowledged immediately and the plants arrived timely, well-packaged and in healthy condition. The plants sizes were as described and they are thriving in my garden. I will definitely order from this company again.

I just recently ordered four hardy Geranium 'Biokovo' from Deer-Resistant Landscaping and was very pleased from my experience. There was an error with the credit card number I had given on the website but someone called me directly to resolve it and still had the plants shipped out that day. Once arrived, the plants seemed a little on the small side for the size of the containers but overall well grown and healthy looking. They were also a very fair price, so the smallish size was not an issue and I expect that they will take off fairly quickly. I was most pleased with the way they were packaged. The box that they were sent in was much larger then probably necessary and that many mail-order nurseries use but this allowed them to be package in such a way that they arrived with no damage and still looking fresh with nice clean soil. Overall, I was very pleased and will definitely consider ordering from them in the future.

My plants arrived as ordered with no surprises. The owner emailed when they shipped to let me know when to expect them and also to make sure I knew he was available to take care of any problems should they occur. They haven't (the plants were beautiful) but this kind of service is certainly appreciated. I will order again.

I ordered two Potentilla "Dakota Sunspot" on Sept. 11, and on the 16th I received my healthy, green plants. Mr. Jensen also sent a helpful e-mail notifying me of shipping time. I will order from this company again.

Have ordered twice form this company and have always gotten happy, healthy, thriving wonderful plants. Communication friendly and prompt too. My order today had a foxglove with a looong flower spike on it. Most mail order companies wouldn't have thought twice about snipping it off to fit in the box, but they were thoughtful enough to make the extra effort and make sure I got the flowers too. I very much appreciate that.

My first order with this company resulted in several pleasant surprises: professional website and secure checkout, prompt email confirmation, fast shipping, excellent packing and really large, healthy plants. I found their site after shopping around for a gold barberry - this company has several. Their prices are quite reasonable too, at a time when a lot of online nurseries have (understandably) raised prices.

I bought 3 of these butterfly weed plants from Deer resistant landscape nursery. It was in very good condition when they arrived. I planted them in pots very next day as I was still preparing my flower bed. After a week or so , I put them on the ground. They are planted in well drained location getting more than 6 hrs of direct sunlight. Of the three only one is showing signs of any growth. It has few flower buds at this time. Other two have shown absolutely no growth so far. Leaves have some kind of white patches. I mean they are not totally green but have a yellow/whitish texture. Is this normal ? Do I need to spray anything. What kind of fertilizers do these need. Im using 10-10-10 general purpose fertilizer once a month. I did put compost manure, bone meal and blood meal together with little peat moss in the potting hole at the time of planting.

I will replace the two that have not grown. One of the drawbacks of the Butterfly Weed is that besides attracting the butterflies, they also attract the butterfly larvae which eat the leaves, making the plant appear to have not grown.

Here are some tips: Discontinue the fertilizing and don't water more than once a week during these hot spells (they are happy in lean soil and not too wet). Spray with a general bug spray.

Received a very nice order of large plants from Dave. Communication and shipping were very prompt. Would not hesitate to order again.

I ordered 4 (plants) Hakonechloa "Aureola" at 11.15 each. Unfortunately the plants I received were seedlings. As per the nursery I was told that the plants were ready to install. The seedlings I received were not bigger than 3 toohpicks each. I contacted the company and complained. They sent a second shipment with me absorbing the shipping cost. The 2nd shipment received were the same size of the 1st shipment. Overall, I was very dissapointed.

Your partner called and I offered to take the plants back for a full refund. He said you actually needed four more to complete your project. I told him the four new ones are the same size (just sprouting after a long Michigan winter, no doubt someone in Florida might not understand three weeks growth would only appear as toothpicks)!

Ordered online Aug18th, the plant was in my mailbox on the 20th!! Not only that, but the Podophyllum kaliedoscope was nice sized, a good value and gorgeous!

I can't say enough about Deer-Resistant Plants Nursery. The quality, the pricing, shipping and communication is excellent. Everything I purchased from here is still growing strong and the deer pretty much stay away from the plants. They may have taken a nibble but that's about it. I ordered a daisy and a butterfly weed that didn't survive and I was credited immediately - no questions asked. And they were excellent with shipping when I needed the stock to arrive by a certain time. Anticipated ordering on a regular basis!

I have had 3 shipments this year from this nursery. All plants were packed well, hydrated with plastic on the pot, and shipped in a timely manner. Would have written this review sooner but very busy planting these large orders. I live in an area where most nurseries are big box hosta and impatient plants. This honest reliable nursery is a God send to me in Northern MN. The owner always has check on the order with emails or phone calls. Will reorder from them allways. I received 10 large healthy maidenhair ferns, packed beautifully, received healthy, would definitely order from again.

I found this company by using Google to find Caryopteris divaricata. I requested a mid-April ship date which was agreed to. When I didn't get the plants by the first week in May I called. The owner apologetically said they still had snow on the ground, but he'd get my plants out right away. I did get my very healthy, large plants promptly and they were just breaking dormancy. Dave had written a simple thank you and an apology for the slow shipping. I was glad he held my plants until they broke dormancy, as I am terrible with dormant plants. I was very impressed with Dave's humble attitude.

I found Deer-Resistant Landscapes Nursery when I was looking for a source for alchemilla 'auslese' to replace some puny ones from another nursery. It was easy to contact the owner and ask him about the size of the plants I'd be getting, and he was also very accommodating about the date of shipment. In addition to being better-priced and in bigger pots than the first nursery's plants, the plants I received were even bigger than expected (pretty much what you'd get for the same price or more at a local nursery instead of the usual small mailorder size), and well rooted and very healthy. They arrived in perfect condition in a well designed box that eliminated the need for annoying packing materials (I hate styrofoam peanuts!) and made unpacking a very quick process. Shipping cost is low, too. Highly recommended!

This company is honest, reliable, and sends beautiful plants. What more could you ask for? I don't know whether to laugh or cry when I see what some vendors market as "deer resistant." My heart breaks for beginning gardeners who would place their trust in such companies---only to wake up one morning and find that the deer have destroyed everything! Deer Resistant Landscape Nursery, unlike the above mentioned companies, actually conduct their own tests on deer resistance. They not only welcome, but ask for customer feedback on this subject. Now for the plants themselves--- I love Asclepias Incarnata, and when I saw that this company had the new 'Cinderella' at an excellent price, I ordered a number of them in what this company calls the "five inch pots." They came yesterday, and I must say that these "five inch pots" are huge for mail order standards! I also ordered some Buddleia, which also came in the same huge (by mail order standards) pots. They are so healthy and well developed that I will order more today. (I order Buddleia through the mail because the nurseries in my area typically only offer this plant in the middle of summer.) The owner of this company is obviously a perfectionist. He sent two grasses which I ordered without charge because he was "not sure of their quality." However, one of the grasses is already breaking dormancy and actually looks quite robust. How many mail order vendors do you know who would do this? The shipping rate for this company is quite reasonable, and the plants are very well packaged for the trip. They were shipped out on the exact day I requested, and arrived at my doorstep in two days. Very highly recommended!

Excellent experience with this plant vendor. I ordered two Buddleia's in January (not prime ordering/shipping time from their place or mine) and both plants arrived quickly in good health, well packed and are currently growing quite well. Can't ask for more. Great communication at all stages, certainly on my watch-list for another order real soon.

This was my first order from this company. I was hesitant to order in the fall because I thought I might receive plants left over from spring and probably a bit bedraggled. My order arrived promptly, the plants looked great, and they were packed so well that I had trouble getting them out of the box. I live in the woods so I am forever fighting deer, racoons, rabbits and squirrel as well as the last two summers of drought and the new arrival of japanese beetles. So whether these plants survive may not be the fault of this company. Also, the one-price shipping is terrific! I have tried to place orders from other companies that when it got to checkout added $5 or more to each plant. I look forward to ordering from this company again.

I ordered some plants and bulbs on Tuesday evening. The order arrived Thursday afternoon. The plants were very nice and the packaging was excellent. I will place another order with them. Gary

I placed an order for a Young Lady Smoke bush, 3 geraniums, and a agastache. Packing was very good. Order received in 3 days after ordering. The only reason for the neutral rating was the size of the plants. The Smoke bush was very small. The Agastache looked like a stick in a pot(After e-mailing the company was told it was dormant which might be true in Michigan-I live in Georgia) The only exception was the Geraniums, which were not a bad size and were healthy looking. Overall, this is a very well run nursery. I will change my rating to positive if plants establish themselves quickly and become a decent size.

I placed a spring '05 order for several perennials and small shrubs. The Caryopteris divaricata were a bit on the small side, but everything was healthy, well-packed and a good value for the money. I would order from this company again.

Orderd 2 butterfly bushes couple of weeks ago. Both had a huge root system and are now thrivinging in my butterfly sanctuary.
