I ordered from this company for the first time this spring--perennials, shrubs, and a Japanese Maple (Autumn Moon). All six orders placed (by phone and internet) came promptly, plants were in A-1 condition, well-packed and are now thriving. Their customer service reps are courteous and knowledgeable. I rate them the highest of seven mail order nurseries I have purchased from including two on your top 30 list.

I have ordered from this company the past two years....very, very pleased with the healthy Large plants. In order to really appreciate this company, one needs to see the quality packing and shipping. Plants are hydrated and have stakes in the containers so crushing are not a problem. I will reorder next year. Customer Service is also very good.

The plants which I received from Red Barn Gardens arrived in large gallon containers ready to plant. I have never seen such healthy plants. They are flourishing in my garden. I have never had this much luck with plantings from my local nursery. The company took care with packaging and my plants arrived at the correct time for my area. I will surely order from Red Barn Gardens this fall. I'll look forward to the bulbs coming up in the spring. Thanks Red Barn!

I ordered 3 bridal veil astilbe, one violet, and 2 golden bowles sedges from this nursery through Better Homes and Gardens. I received the box in a timely manner, however, when i opened it, i found that everything was crisped and wilted. granted, it is the height of summer, however, when i further inspected the plants, i found that half of them were substitutions. the packing slip said nothing about this. i checked the plants carefully; two of the astilbe were sending up white new growth (how long were they in the box??) and the one sweet flag that was substituted for the sedge looked alive, but tiny. i called customer service at BHG, and the lady there kindly took my complaint and gave me the number of the nursery (which wasn't included in the box). I called the nursery, and had to leave a message. Three days later, they called me back, and i gave them my complaints. The lady was very terse with me, saying that i should have planted the plants out immediately (they came in quart containers full of soil which i immediately watered thoroughly and placed in part shade), and i had to explain several times that the plants arrived fried. finally, she said that she'd send replacements, but at the price they charge, and the fact that there were three unwanted substitution plants, i said that i'd prefer a refund. she told me again that i should have planted everything out, and then said she'd refund me for the astilbe and the substitutions. so later on, when i planted out the living plants, i noticed that the root systems (especially on the sweetflag) were tiny, and shoved into these big, heavy, soilfilled quart pots. shipping was almost 20 bucks on these 6 plants. i hope they refund that, as well. despite the fact that i'm getting a partial refund, i would never use this company again. i feel like they were trying to decieve me, and thus waste my money on shipping.

I ordered 4 roses from this nursery, which was linked to the Star Roses site as the fulfillment company for certain varieties. The roses were nicely packed and appeared to be big, healthy things with 5 - 7 canes and a large root system. However, two of them never leafed out, and the other two developed leaves that quickly wilted and dropped off. Investigation (by Star Roses at my behest) revealed that the nursery had mishandled the plants during dormancy, allowing roots to dry out and die. Although I was grievously disappointed, I can't totally slam this company since their customer service was extremely friendly and accomodating, and they did fully refund the price of the roses. I guess these things can happen. Although my first experience didn't go so well, I would give them a second chance.

I ordered several plants from Red Barn this past spring, and was incredibly impressed with the size, price, condition, and shipping of the plants. All perennials were substantial in size and were fully developed plants, not just small twigs and roots. In fact, they looked better than the large potted perennials I bought at the garden center that same weekend. The packing was the best I've seen. The plants came in a tall box and each plant was dropped from the top into its own square cardboard sheath the same height as the box - about 2 feet high - so that none of the foliage was bent or broken. I will undoubtedly continue to order from Red Barn Gardens.

Red Barn Gardens' advertising is enticing and directs you to an easy to use website. I received plants right on schedule. All of the plants were large, had full roots, and were packaged in sturdy boxes that were easy to open. Some plants bloomed two weeks after I planted them. I was really impressed with the quality of the plants that I received! The peonies were huge! Not just some cut off the mother plant. The peonies bloomed for me the first year I planted them.
