I was completely satisfied with product and delivery time. Mr. Size promptly and graciously responded to my e-mail inquiries and was helpful throughout the course of the exchange. International shipping rates were very reasonable. Catalog was extensive, though a bit confusing, but this would certainly not prevent me from ordering from Seeds-by-size in the future.

Attempted to purchase seed but three emails did not elicit a response and the telephone does not answer.

I ordered seed from this company April 1st and after three weeks, they still hadn't arrived. Emails to them inquiring about my order went unanswered. Finally, a phone call revealed that they never had the seed to begin with and couldn't get it. Very poor business practices displayed by this company and one that I will never trust with an order again.

I've used Seeds by Size for several years, and most recently ordered 5 varieties of Tomatillo. The order was fulfilled exactly and promptly. My experience of them has always been excellent.

what an upsetting experience trying to deal with this belittling man..all relevent order material was put foreward, yet, that was''too hard'' to say ,yes or no ,i have the seed...pay first, and if i dont have it i'll send money back...what atrocious charges for seed for just being a middle man.believe me, you are better off being in DG seed trading than john seeds by size..

I've been using Seeds by Size for the last 9 years. If you email John Robert Size he is very helpful and responds quickly, I've never had to phone him as the turn around on orders is good, occasionally I have had to wait for a few items but they come soon enough, as promised with his onward order notes that he ships with the main delivery in his very exciting and incredibly concisely packaged brown paper parcels. I really like the website , its refreshingly different to read through the huge seed lists and whilst the pricing system does take a little getting used to, once you understand it , you'll find it so much more flexible than the pre-packaged options offered by most of the other sites. I like to try out different varieties and hence sometimes I get spectacularly good results and sometimes very poor, but that has probably got more to do with my garden conditions than any fault with the seed. I've found that if I do get a variety to grow well , then performance is consistent on any repeat orders in following years. I think its well worth a go if you are open minded to trying something a bit different in your garden , well thats part of the fun isn't it?

A bit slow! I would not mind only I did not receive a single reply or acknowledgement after making payment on 10 July 2008 and have heard nothing. Courtesy emails are needed by seed companies if they want to keep faith with their clients. Many problems could be avoided if only companies sent their customers a brief email stating reason for delay and approximate time of shipment. Will upgrade this to positive if things improve.

On August 3rd, 2008, Menk changed the rating from neutral to positive and added the following: After emailing Seeds by Size, I received a reply stating that order was shipped 31st July. Time delay is therefore reasonable, but my earlier comments relating to courtesy emails still stands. Customers soon lose faith if kept in the dark.
On August 9th, 2008, Menk added the following: Seed arrived, fresh and clean and probably twice as much as I had ordered. Professionally packaged.

WARNING - THIS SEED COMPANY - SEEDS BY SIZE - SENT THE WRONG SEEDS AND REFUSES TO ISSUE A REFUND. We ordered Early Cascade Tomato seeds from this vendor to resell the seeds. Seeds by Size sent us the wrong seeds. Several of our customers reported that the seeds produced a small cherry tomato several months later after the plants produced tomatoes. We provided Seeds of Size with photos of the tomatoes the plants produced. These photos were sent to us by farmers and nursery growers who grew the seeds. Even though we sent the photos, Seeds of Size said that that wasn't any proof at all and would not reimburse us for the incorrect seeds that was sent to us. They used every excuse, even that maybe the seeds were irradiated by the US Post Office and that's why the seeds produced cherry tomatoes! We should have been cautious in purchasing the seeds from Seeds of Size, as no one else in the entire seed industry had the seeds. Later we found out there was either a crop failure or the hybrid seed grower who grows the seeds didn't grow the seeds this year. Seeds of Size informed us his seed supplier who sold him the seeds grew the seeds himself. When we asked Seeds of Size what two tomato varieties the supplier used to grow the hybrid tomato seeds, we received no reply. Apparently the small seed supplier who tried to grow the Early Cascade Tomato seeds used seeds they had saved from the prior year, and did not grow the seeds using two or more varieties, thus would explain why the seeds produced a cherry type tomato and not a 4 oz size tomato. It maybe that Seeds of Size just sent us the wrong seeds! We will not purchase from this vendor again and would recommend others to buy from them as Seeds of Size doesn't abide by the standard seed industry policy to reimburse the customer in full if the product doesn't produce what was described on the pack! We contacted PayPal about the problem and made a complaint and they are investigating this company to decide if any action should be taking by them! We apologize to all our customers for this problem. We take take this problem seriously. Companies like Seeds of Size hurt our reputation as a quality seed supplier. We eliminate these suppliers as we find problems with them. We should make note we purchased another tomato variety from Seeds of Size and the germination rating was very low. We found the same variety from a reliable seed supplier in the US and resolved the problem. Again, Seeds of Size refused to refund us for the lot of seeds that had a low germination!

I bought a large quantity of heirloom tomato, aubergine and pepper seeds from this company, and they arrived very proptly, and the prices were excellent. I sowed in bulk (hundreds of plants) and I have had very high germination rates.

I've only ordered from this company once and there were some good things and some bad things. All the seeds in my order arrived very quickly from stock, which may seem like a good thing. Germination was patchy. The worst was some Impatiens with zero germination, but that might be partly me since I always have trouble with them. I think that maintaining stocks of such a large variety of seed means that some of the seed is quite old. The web-site is not pretty, and its not user-friendly, but it does list a huge variety of seeds. The more common types of seed are very cheap and P&P is also very good, at least in the UK. More expensive seed is still expensive. I recommend using this company for cheaper types of seed where you can get hundreds of seeds in a 1 pound sterling packet. Look elsewhere for expensive seed, it may be cheaper and germination may be better.

Has a huge and mainly undecipherable list of virtually everything, and a similar pricing structure. I ordered 75 UKP (about 120 dollars) worth of seed over a month ago, got an acknowledgement 10 days later saying some things could be up to eight weeks for delivery. Its obvious that he does not stock what he lists! Received a quarter of the order after one month; still waiting for the rest. No response to email enquires which are routed through someone else! We could do with a site like yours in the UK.

Company representative comment on November 1, 2004:
I feel he must have confused me with another company as for the last 25 years that I have personally run this one man company named SEEDS-BY-SIZE I never have done any of the following:

1) Send out a letter of acknowledgement. (because I fill most orders on the day that I receive them and the letter of acknowledgement is included along with the receipted bill for the money received.)

2) Fill less then 50% of an order & post it to a customer.

3) Leave a customer with a large part of the order waiting for more then one month, yes sometimes one or two items that I find hard to replace or acquire.

4) Not stock on my premises many thousands of the 7,000 or more items on my lists.

5) Never since in the last almost eight years since I put up my website, have I not answered any E-mails received by me (the one exception was in the case of a customer sending me an order and not including a delivery address. Their order can only be delivered if and when they contact me and correct the absence of the missing postal address.)

6) I do not route my E-mail enquiries through someone else. I go to my E-mail server approx. 5 times a day to respond to any E-mails which I receive from inside the UK and worldwide.

In my opinion either this person has confused me with another seed company or he is deliberately trying to paint a false picture of how I operate. If he lives in the UK an what he says is true, which I personally doubt, why not phone me at 01442-251458 which is a telephone number I have had for 33 years.

Yours sincerely
John Size
