Ordered ruby stellar magnolia in 2021. Arrived healthy and doing well. Bought again in 2022, 4 out 4 ruby magnolia arrived with brown leaves, instead of the healthy green leaves. Sent them picture within a week of the unhealthy plants I received, compared to another healthy ruby magnolia that I planted last year.. they blamed me overwater the plants and the soil in my garden lacks iron. It is ridiculous. DONT BUY FROM THEM!!!

I ordered 2 blue point junipers through this company in #3 pots. They arrived quickly, look healthy, and are approximately 2 ft tall. Only downside is that they are not well shaped. Instead of a nice tapered point, the tops are rather flat and misshapen. Hopefully I can correct this through pruning.

Ordered 7 Autumn Fire Azaleas on 2/10/21. They arrived on 2/19/21, dormant. They quickly began dropping leaves, and on 3/9/21 I began corresponding with Plants by Mail by email regarding their condition. By 3/18/21, all the plants were dead, and I informed Plants by Mail on that day. Plants by Mail customer service was rude and argumentative and refused to honor their warranty because I had indicated earlier that some of the plants looked ok, even though they later died (still within the warranty period!). I even offered to pay shipping or reduced prices for replacements - nothing. I had to file a dispute with my credit card provider. Look elsewhere.

I ordered a 3-gallon sized Golden Oakland (TM) holly, a variety that is otherwise difficult to find in retail nurseries. The plant arrived in great condition, nice and full, and packaged very carefully. The only word of caution I would add is for northern gardeners in early spring - remember that this nursery is based in southern Alabama and plants will have flushed out lots of spring growth by the time they are shipped to customers in colder climates.

We ordered (4) of 14 Autumn Fire Azeleas from Plants by Mail. (The other (10) plants were ordered from another vendor.) All the plants did well, but the plants from Plants by Mail. Their plants were dead on arrival. We planted them the day they arrived. One month in the ground and Plants by Mail will not take any responsibility for poor results. Go somewhere else.

Company representative comment on February 2, 2017:
On Feb 2, 2017 9:20 AM, PDSI-Plants by Mail responded with:

This customer ordered on 12/10/2016 and requested new plants on 2/1/2017 because the plants he had ordered had died. It states in our terms and conditions, which customers agree to upon checkout, that plants that are dead or damaged on arrival should be reported within seven days, and the responsibility of the health of the plants is transferred to the customer after the seven day period. If the plants were dead, we are not sure why the customer would plant dead plants, and leave them in the ground for almost 2 months.

As a smaller company we are not able to provide the extensive warranties offered by the big box stores (Home Depot/Walmart/…) but we do our best to provide great quality plants to customers, and will replace plants that do not arrive in excellent condition.

***Side Note: The other 10 healthy and thriving plants that this customer mentioned he had bought from another vendor were purchased from our Amazon storefront in early November, which may have helped the plants get established before harsh winter conditions settled in.

Received my Encore Azaleas (which were impossible to find locally) within a week of ordering them. They arrived securely boxed via UPS ... perfectly sized plants, healthy, and almost half them in bloom in October. I couldn't be more pleased. Plants by Mail let me know when they were shipped and I was then able to track the shipment. Ordered on a Tuesday and they were on my doorstep the following Monday. Great experience with a trusted seller.

I feel much better when I see an online nursery that has very few comments on DavesGarden. Since people usually write comments when they are dissatisfied, I assume they are doing a good job. I ordered the following plants on on October 9, 2011: Mountain Snow™ Pieris SL14 1 $26.95 Encore® Azalea Autumn Amethyst™ EA01 1 $31.95 Encore® Azalea Autumn Bravo™ EA04 1 $31.95 Encore® Azalea Autumn Twist™ EA25 1 $31.95 Endless Summer® Hydrangea The Original PP#15298 ES01 1 $31.95 Jubilation™ Gardenia SL08 1 $26.95 I can't wait to see them!

I recently ordered a 'Purple Pixie' Loropetalum from them which was shipped promptly (much faster than Wayside Gardens) in a well-protected carton. They sent emails advising me of when the product shipped as well as providing a tracking code. The one-gallon plant was much larger than those shipped by most nurseries. The plant was in excellent condition. I would order from them again in a heartbeat. Leslie

I agree that they do not respond in a timely manner. I sent two emails and they never responded. I called twice and they did respond. The azaleas were late because of the weather. OK, then they sent me an email a week before they were to be sent saying my order was in the computer but the paper was in the cancel file. Which was correct. I told them to send the plants. They came a week later and they were in great shape and packaged wonderfully. I had to buy another so I emailed the order. A week later they sent me an email with a week ETA and tracking number. A week later I got the plant again in great condition. I can only get the encore azalea through them since no one sells them near me. I give them a negative on responce and a positive on the plants. Since the condition of the plants out weigh the service I give them a positive. I would only use them to get the encore azalea.

I will give this company a negative based on no response to two e-mails. I just would like to know when to expect my order. I placed an order 3-14-05 for 4 azaleas. The company has not charged my order on my bank card, so that is a relief. I wonder if and when to expect my order to arrive. C&NN

On May 20th, 2005, 75751 added the following: I finally received this order today of 4 Encore Azaleas. The azaleas appear in ok health and the packaging was good. The company blamed the weather for the long delay. I am still not happy that it took so long to get these azaleas. I could have gotten some of the varieties that I chose at a local nursery. I doubt that I will order from them again. C&NN
On June 3rd, 2005, 75751 changed the rating from negative to neutral and added the following: My Encore Azaleas are thriving wonderfully. This company needs to have better communication with the customer. C&NN

The first week of March I ordered two shalimar red bignonia capreolata from them online. I never received the plants, nor did I receive any response from them regarding the status of my order, despite one phone call to them and two e-mails. Today my husband called them again and was told that they are basically a "wholesaler" and although they hoped to have plants available to sell, that did not turn out to be the case. No reason was given for failing to let us know the situation. Their website gives no indication that this is a wholesale company. I now have a two months delay getting vines started on my pergola.
