Rock Spray Nursery

I like my plants I ordered a few years back but I am still waiting for them to "take off"...BTW Why is there no Rockspray website anymore? It keeps giving me some strange page...

I have been calling and emailing Rock Spray and leaving messages since early Spring to try to order a collection of Heather. They never called me or emailed me back, and now according to their recorded message they have stopped shipping for the season. Based on this experience I give them big thumbs down.

I was very pleased with my dealings with Rockspray. I sent an email with photos of the area I wanted to plant and received a call from Alissa to help make my decision on plant size and collection type. My plants arrived today- gallon size (for that instant gratification!) and are beautiful. Twelve beauties, two types in bloom now. They are healthy and were well packed and the soil still moist. Simple to follow directions on care were included and I know if I have any concerns or questions I can contact them. All are planted now and I can't wait to order more from them in the spring. Now I have a little bit of the Yorkshire Moors in my back yard and couldn't be happier! Rockspray will definitely be my source for all future heather purchases.

I just got my first order, and I'm delighted. 12 of the cutest little plants you ever saw, and they arrived in perfect condition. The plants were well seated in their pots, and in the tray. The medium was moist, and there was no broken foliage. Each plant (12 different varieties) included a marker, identifying it. I ordered back in January, and completely forgot about it, and got a very nice surprise this evening. I checked back on my emails, and the plants arrived exactly when they said they would. I'm impressed!

I don't want to give a negative rating since I haven't gotten my order yet. Come to think of it, I don't even know if they have my order which I placed during their Easter Sale (they offerred a 10% discount). I have to say that the communication is very poor if you Email them. You can try the phone, but may not get anyone. To their credit, I got a call back and a message was left on my answering machine stating that I should Email to a different address than the one I had used on their website. I had left all my information when I called them, but there was no mention of my order. I Emailed them on Saturday the 14th and have not heard back yet. That's 2 Emails and one phone call later and I still have no order confirmation. I'm not sure what else to do.

I have ordered from this company several times and as far as I can recall nothing has gone well. My last order they forgot to put a plant that I had ordered into the box. Last time, half of my order was substituted. And I had planned so carefully as to foliage color and such. One substituted plant was exactly what I did not want. My husband ordered shears for me and they did not send the sheath. Later on, after some correspondance they sent the wrong size. Finally after more email, they sent the correct sheath. This last order they sent the plant that they had ommitted but it is somewhat brown and looks like it is definitely stressed and really small, I do not know if it will survive. Sorry, but I am just tired of dealing with them and will try someone else next time.

This is a great company to order from. The plants are very healthy, and opening the packaging feels like you are unwrapping a gift. I just placed my order for 2005.

I ordered 48 4-inch-pot plants from Rock Spray, and they arrived a few weeks ago in wonderful condition. Like another reviewer said, they looked like plants I would have picked out myself. I'm afraid I'm now a little spoiled insofar as what I expect from other nurseries--when I received some plants from another grower (who is one of the Watchdog Top 20) that had been carelessly thrown in a box with packing peanuts, I was most unimpressed! I'm new to heaths and heathers so I went with one of their Theme Collections, but I liked that they still gave me the option to state what foliage colors, etc. I preferred. I imagine that's a fairly unusual practice, and I appreciated it.

I have ordered from this company three times in the last two years and I love them. Every plant has arrived healthy and vigorous. When I ordered 5.5 inch potted plants that were out of stock I received 1 gallon pots of the cultivar with no additional charge. When one was totally out of stock I received a cultivar with same color, growth habit and bloom time. plants arrive when promised-no excuses-in excellent condition-packaging is perfect. Need more room so I can get more. If you love heathers and heath-this is the place to buy.

Rock Spray is the ultimate source for Calluna and Erica and the standard to meet by any other source. I have ordered from them twice and look forward to my next order in late summer, 2004. Their Callunas, simply put, perform both better and faster than those from other mail-order retailers. Good, because Callunas are addictive. Is Rock Spray a delight to deal with by phone? Not really. By email? Yes, sometimes. But they know (and love) their plants, and their plants are top-quality; packing/shipping good and on time. Excellent catalog (and website, though it is hard to figure out at first) with more helpful info than any book I have read on Calluna (Erica, etc.).

Just wanted to say I received my order from Rock Spray Nursery today and am very impressed. They are the most beautiful little plants, well-pack and moist. I ordered twelve so they sent a whole tray of them. I am thinking this nifty tray and pots will come in handy for future gardening projects. They look like plants I would have picked out myself had I seen them first. I would definately order from this company again.

This is a GREAT nursery and grower--should be better known. They do not have a retail outlet this summer--see their website for details. However, they still do mail order. I visited their nursery summer of 2002 and ended up buying 40 gallon size heaths and heathers plus two small ornamental conifers. Despite the worst drought in 40 years, most of them survivied quite well--those that didn't were due to my inattentiveness. (If I had followed the instructions better, all would have survived.) Everything I planted following their directions survived a wet, cold winter so beautifully that local landscapers were puzzling as to how I did it! Kate was very helpful in person, quizzed me on planting site conditions, and guided me in my selections without being overly obtrusive. She KNOWS heaths and heathers. The plants were great, the instructions were helpful, and the service was personable and knowledgeable. Don't hesitate to use this nursery for mail-order.

This is an excellent source of heather and heaths. They send large, healthy plants and have over 100 heathers listed in their well illustrated catalog. Kate Herrick is very knowledgeable about these plants and has worked with the Northeast Heather Society, from it's inception, to popularize the growing of them. For many years they had a booth at the Boston Flower Show. They are the largest grower of heaths and heathers on the east coast. I have ordered from them many times and have always been very satisfied in dealing with them. In the summer months they also have a retail center in Truro, where heathers and other plants and books can be purchased.

Rock Spray Nursery has the best selection of heaths and heathers available in America. Dealing with them is not always a pleasure, but once the plants are in the ground, you forget any unpleasantness on the phone and just remain grateful for their high quality merchandise. I'll deal with them again and recommend them highly.

I bought over 100 heather plants at Rock Spray Nursery to create a heather garden, and they have all done very well. I bought very small plants to economize, and ALL of them have flourished. Also, the people there seem to really know their stuff.

Rock Spray offers a variety of hardy heaths and heathers, grown at their Cape Cod site. I first bought a few plants from them at the NE Flower Show, and was so thrilled with these that I've since placed a few orders through their catalog. The shipping gets expensive, but these have probably been the most carefully packed plants I've ever received. The catalog includes a listing and description of over 100 different heathers, along with some good information on care and habit of different heathers, and some color photos to give the reader a sense of what heathers can do in a landscape. All plants I've purchased have been very vigorous and healthy, and I'm looking forward to expanding my heather collection again soon!
