Great selection of heritage/heirloom grains and soup peas! I ordered from Salt Spring Seeds because I wasn't able to source a few grain varieties within the United States. I placed the order online, but ended up calling about an out of stock item. Dan returned my phone call promptly, and was very approachable. If I had more time, I would have chatted longer. If you're looking for a specific heritage/heirloom grain, checkout Salt Spring Seeds.

This company is offering lathyrus sativus for sale as an edible seed. Advertised as "Grass Pea," it is listed with the Garbanzo Beans. Lathyrus sativus causes an irreversible, progressive paralysis in humans and some livestock including horses. The disease is called Lathyrism. No safe level of consumption has ever been determined. If you are eating this seed, be aware that once symptoms appear, which they may do within 3 months, the damage is done. In children lathyrism causes brain abnormality as well as paralysis.

Very fast service. Dan's doing a great job with his Seed and Plant Sanctuary for Canada. It has really good information on vegetable seed saving techniques - //www.seedsanctuary.com/articles/seedsaving.cfm

Excellent service; seeds ordered arrived less than a week later, across the country. Great germination rate and interesting varieties, too.

We have bought a dozen or more varieties of seed garlic from Salt Spring Seeds and all have been good healthy specimens.

Thank you for including this company as it is one of the few places that grow out the seeds that they sell. The tomato collection is amazing and all seeds are grown using organic methods.

I regularly order garlic and bean seeds from this company. They came out with an expanded catalogue last year, in which they list seeds, etc available from several suppliers on Salt Spring Island. I ordered sunflowers, corn and several other seeds and all grew well. The selection of beans is remarkable, and includes a number of soy beans that grow well on the south west coast of British Columbia. The selection of garlic is impressive as well (50 varieties?).
