I've owned and used a Mantis tiller for the past 21 years - the same tiller, with virtually no maintenance. Last week I dug out the remaining root masses from five cedar bushes that I removed from my daughter's landscape. The little beast chewed up and pulled out roots that I couldn't begin to uproot with a shovel. I also dug 7 new planting holes for new shrubs - much quicker and much better than I would have done with a shovel alone. It's an incredible machine!

Well I guess my experience with customer support can't be any more different? I have a 2 cycle tiller and the trimmer attachment and somehow 2 weeks ago I screwed up while putting the engine back on the tiller body. I'm not sure what I did but later that day the tiller stopped tilling and the engine kept running. I was so afraid that since it was clearly my fault Mantis would want me to pay for the repair costs. I sent it in anyway and Mantis replaced the entire lower unit at no cost. I never even had to explain or beg. I can't speak for others but they are some of the most friendly and helpful customer support people I've had to deal with in a long time.

I bought a new 2 cycle Mantis tiller, which is supposed to have a 5 year warranty. After only about 20 hours of use the carburetor malfunctioned so all of the fuel leaks out. I contacted Mantis and was told that I would either have to take my tiller to a repair shop 150 miles away or pack it up and ship it to them at my expense. I told them that if they would just send me a carburetor kit I could do the repairs myself. Their reply was I'd have to pay for the parts, even though it is covered by Mantis's warranty. Not being satisfied with this reply I contacted the Better Business Bureau and Mantis did not even reply to them. If you're looking for a decent, dependable small tiller, you definitely should not consider a Mantis. While their concept is great, their design and customer service leaves a lot to be desired.
