A lovely side trip of historical significance. I visited Bartram's Garden in mid-September, before the trees started turning, and had a most excellent run-around in the woods.
The house was going under some construction at the time, but the gardens around were well-kept and interesting. What I found most intriguing were the walks through the woods. There were plenty of chances to be "pixie-led," as my sister calls it -- to diverge off a main trail to a smaller path that leads one to question whether the trail you've gone onto is even a path at all. Inevitably, the wandering was the best part. While it was a weekday, I read plenty of info on the weekend activities there, and am definately going back for some living history.
I should warn others, though, that to get there involves going through a twisty and sketchy industrial area. No real danger, just a little off-putting. You'll get there, I promise.
