Information on Architectural Trees

I recently made my first trip to Architectural Trees and I\'m so glad we did. The nursery is filled with plants that you can\'t find anywhere else. Seriously. I have spent a lot of time looking in other nurseries and on line to find some of the plants they have. Every plant was a good size and healthy. It was a joy to be surrounded by such beauty. The owner, John, and his employee (whose name I can\'t remember. Sorry!) were so helpful. They talked with us about what we have, what we wanted and made suggestions on what we might like. It is impossible to say enough good things about Architectural Trees. No matter how far you may have to drive, the nursery is worth the trip.

I purchased a conifer tree from architectural trees approximately 5 years ago and paid $365.00 for it. I brought photos of the planting area beside my house with measurements and explained to their staff I wanted a dwarf conifer tree that would not get over 15' tall. The staff member looked at photos and said "Deep Cove" was an excellent selection due to it being a dwarf veriety and reaching a height of only 12'.

Since that time the tree has reached a height of over 30'. I had a certified arborist (Davie Tree) come out and inspect the tree. He said it was not a "Deep Cove" but a species that will reach over 40'. Since then I had the tree cut down as it was developing a large caliper trunk even though it was spaced 6' from the side of my house. It would have cost over $1,500 to have the tree moved due to its size. In conclusion the tree was "Tagged" wrong and I did not get what I paid for. I relied on the expertise of Architectural Trees staff and them being a reputatable company.

I contacted Mr. John Monroe (owner) of architectural trees on November. 11, 2008 and "E" mailed him photos of the tree and explained the situation. He said if I would come back to his nursery he would give me a credit for the purchase price of the tree if I came back within one year.

Today (Oct. 30, 2009) I called Mr. Monroe and he said he would not give me a credit because he did not feel he was obligated. He told me if I found the purchase receipt from (5 years ago)
he would give me a half credit. I refused because he did not keep his word as originally promised.

I would not recommend buying any trees or shrubs from Architectural Trees. The trees you buy may have the wrong species "tagged" on the product and you may not get what you think you are buying. Then it is too late and you did not get what you paid for. It is obvious that the owner will not make the situation right with the customer after you make the purchase.

I just returned from my first visit to this wonderful tree nursery and must say that that it exceded my hopes. I had been looking for Cercis 'Traveller' and they had it. They have many unusual and desirable specimems. Granted you can spend many dollars there but the value, size and the quality of the plants seem to be worth it. I look forward to returning.
