A nicely laid out nursery with a large variety of fairly unusual plants. The emphasis seems to now be on low water maintenance plants. The staff was eager and knowledgeable. My visit was a random drop in on a Sunday drive and I was quite please I stumble across this gem. I made (for me) a couple of fairly large purchases. I hope to get back soon.

I am a student of organic farming and soils and came to Green Jeans just to study some of the fertilizers and learn more about seeds of native plant. I am sorry to read that people have been disappointed by the expertise here as I was quite impressed with the assistance I got from the employees (Kelly) as well as the owner.

Green Jeans is a little oasis on the side of the freeway; I highly recommend our local Marin people get their plant needs met from a non-franchised garden center at which the owner himself is there to deal with directly. Or, you can go to Sloat or Home Depot!

I was looking for a particular tree, and was told that this nursery might have it.
I called ahead and talked to a young lady who knew nothing of the inventory and was put on the phone with a man.
He told me the tree was available at the nursery.
I asked to put it aside, and keep it for a few hours until I got there.
When I got there, nobody seemed to know about it, and when the owner showed me the tree, after I explained what I needed, it wasn't it!
He said the tree I wanted was rare and this one compared to it well.
I don't want a little comparing tree, I want IT!
Very dissapointed and went out of my way for nothing.
For the rest, the nursery is fairly well stocked, fairly clean and the people have fair knowledge of the plants.
I don't think I wil visit again.

This place has palms, roses, citrus, perennials and annuals a-z, organic veggie starts, ferns, vines, ground cover, tools, amendments, bamboo, pots, and lots of weird chotchkies and art. Organic compost and potting soil too. They also id pests and plant samples. You need to explore the plant selection; there are gems tucked away in the corners.

Not run of the mill plant selection. The owner is wacky… get over it.

and they deliver to your house

After driving past what seemed like a tiny roadside nursery, I was blown away, and kicked myself for not stopping sooner. It is much bigger than it looks from the highway, and their inventory was incredible. Not only did I find plants that I had been looking for for years, but the plants were in excellent condition, and reasonably priced. Among the very eclectic selection of plants were some really nice garden ornaments, unlike what I usually see in the local nurseries. I have been a regular customer ever since, and it has been a joy interacting with the staff.

I have had several very disappointing experiences with Green Jeans and I can no longer recommend them to clients or to others who enjoy to garden.

On two separate ocassions two different clients went to Green Jeans to shop for plants on my recommendation.
Both clients were treated so rudely that they called me and informed me about their experiences.
One of my clients was so distraught that she asked her husband to go down to the nursery and speak with one of the owners.

I had a misreable experience when placing a special order.
I would call to check in on the order once a week. Each week I was told a completely different explanation for why the plants did not arrive.
Finally I had enough and ordered the plants directly from the wholesaler.
When the Owner of Green Jeans found out that I ordered directly from the wholesaler ( San Marcos Growers ), he called me and was yelling at the top of his lungs that " how dare I go behind his back and order from HIS suppliers ".

This was quite a baffling outburst of the most unstable kind , not to mention totally ridiculous since I have been a customer of SMG for over 20 years.

Also, when I did place the order with San Marcos growers they informed me that the plants I was ordering thru Green Jeans had never been on plant request order to them.

Set against a hillside whose huge old California live oak provides canopy for a selection of shade loving plants, and topped by a giant ornamental praying mantis on the roof, Greenjeans Nursery offers an eclectic selection of plants suited to the San Francisco Bay Area climate. They have a strong selection of bamboo in 5-15 gallon sizes, and a number of large cycads under the aforementioned oak. Greenjeans seems to prefer the unusual to the common, which means you are likely to encounter unfamiliar species and varieties rather than generic nursery stock. A highlight of the nursery: it sells lots of organic fertilizers by the pound, allowing you to get as much or as little as you need. The staff are all dedicated, knowledgeable plant people.
