Kahnke Brothers Tree Farm is a Minnesota-based nursery grower of trees, shrubs and perennials. We produce plants for landscape use and install many of them on our parent company's commercial projects. We also sell our plants wholesale (to re-sellers and landscapers) and retail on Saturdays throughout the growing season. We do not have a storefront and we only sell plants. That allows us to focus on what we do best- helping people succeed with their landscaping efforts!

Our 117-acre farm is located a little over an hour south-west of the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro area. We grow thousands of trees in the field, which we spade out of the ground and sell ball and burlap. We also produce container-grown trees using a pot-in-pot production method. All of our shrubs and perennials are also grown in containers.

We try to keep our plants as clean as possible. We do not use any neonicotinoides on our perennial flowers or shrubs. We try to avoid using systemic insecticides of any type as much as possible. At the moment, there is only one type of shrub that receives a systemic insecticide treatment for borers. We also buy all of our perennial flower stock from growers who are neonicotinoide-free. I did receive some treated Baptisias last year and I am selling them with a disclaimer. I am no longer using that source as a supplier. Because we have been good environmental stewards and have healthy populations of beneficial insects on the farm, our need for insecticides is minimal. We do have to treat our trees occasionally for borers, as failure to do so could result in significant losses.

Our farm is home to thousands of landscape-ready plants as well as many a furred and feathered friend. We produce lots of fruit trees and native plants that can be used in habitat plantings and restorations. We also have more formal options for areas where a manicured look is preferred. Whatever you fancy, we will do our best to help you find it!
