| Jamesk | On February 22, 2009, Jamesk from Seattle, WA wrote: An exquisite garden. Formerly a private residence, the garden was created by Prince and Princess Abkhazi over a 40 year period. After their deaths, the garden was purchased from its subsequent owners by the The Land Conservancy in February 2000, to preserve it and to prevent redevelopment of the land.
The garden, situated on a sloping rocky hillside, isn't overly large, but feels wonderfully secluded due to its artful layout and the mature plantings under magnificent Garry Oaks. Japanese maples, Rhododendrons, Azaleas and many rare woodland plants abound.
Skip the crowds and Technicolor spectacles at the Butchart Gardens. Visit this prime example of west coast gardening at its very best, instead. You won't be disappointed. |
