Comstock Ferre is now closed. Very sad, for many years it used to be a terrific place to get garlic, asparagus crowns, potatoes, unusual annuals and lots of great seed in packets or bulk. If you're interested, google search has the whole sad story of it's change of ownership, their battle with the town over wanting to turn the location into condos, and Comstock's eventual demise.

The lack of inventory & stressful atmosphere wasn't the staff's fault. They were helplessly witnessing the very slow & painful death of a historical & charming CT landmark. (And their jobs at a place that was once vibrant & happy).

We visited this garden center in September 2007. They had some great prices on end of season clearance of perennials and some seed packets. However the shelves inside were bare of inventory and there wasn't much to look at or purchase. It is in such a cute location right in the historic area of old Wethersfield. It is very picturesque area to walk. If you're in the area stop in and see what they have but I wouldn't go out of my way to visit here. Seems like they have fallen on hard times.

I use to love this place but it has really fallen off in recent years and this year was the worst. I made no less than a dozen trips to the store from January thru April to purchase seeds and they had less than twenty percent of their seeds stocked. I was told their "seed person" had quit. One lady did offer to package whatever seed I might want but they hardly had any in stock to fill. What a shame. It is such a nice place. If the owner up in Maine knew what was going on he would flip out.

I have had wonderful experience with end of season sales. Good selection of alpines. Beautiful and quaint location. Well stocked store.

I called to ask about the availability of an annual plant and a very sharped tongued woman told me that I had to come and look for my self. I told her that it was a 40 minute drive and in a very put-upon manner she said that she would have to ask someone to stop waiting on customers and go check. I waited patiently and she then came back on after awhile and said that they didn't have time to look. Not a very pleasant experience. Even if she was busy, she could have been polite and offered to call me back with the information. I guess that they don't want my business anymore.
