We visited Berkeley Plantation during Historic Garden week in Virginia. The plantation has terraced gardens bordered by boxwood that were hand dug in the 1700's. The terraced gardens go all the way down to the James River. There are very pretty views of the countryside and James River from the gardens and lawns that make up the Berkeley Plantation. After seeing many extensive gardens in Viriginia we were a little disappointed that the gardens weren't more impressive at Berkeley. There were a few roses, some flowering trees and some daffodils that had passed. Mostly the gardens consist of lawns, bordered by boxwoods and other shrubs. The house has some interesting history that is worth touring (guided tour included).
