This place is a jewel: beautiful natural and crafted gardens, lots of fascinating, tranquil trails, a real treasure. They no longer require reservations and are now open six days a week (every day except Monday) and have evening hours during the summer. Their spring plant sale is extraordinary and they have significantly increased the number of concerts, lectures and plant walks.

They were closed the day I went, but I just had to give you my impression. When I drove to the gatehouse, a lady came out to speak with me. She was so VERY, VERY nice. She talked with me about the gardens, other gardens in the area, what was so wonderful about Barnsley and practically begged me to come back. It looked enchanted behind the stone wall and gate. Like maybe the disney princesses lived there!
