Anyway, that's my problem not theirs. I actually waited a year before I purchased this book from when I put it on my wish list (fixed income). I got it 2 weeks ago and it is a good (fun) read. I like that the writers write like gardeners in this book. Not just because they are, but because it is easy to fall into the dry facts and leave out personal experiences.

It is an easy to use quick reference good for beginners and advanced seed savers. While there are many other seed saving books out there that can be checked out at your local library, this is one that I think is absolutely worth owning. Stay seedy! |

Detailed information on everything you need to know about saving seed (I can see where my plans need changing) and detailed information about many many individual plants and species. A very complete book.

It gives generalized info for each plant family and then specific tips for individual species. It is without question the most comprehensive book on seed saving you can find outside of technical academic texts. It has more than enough info to get you started saving any vegetable you want to and a good idea for many flowers and shrubs as well although they are not covered. Highly reccomend. |

I found the introduction to the history of saving seeds interesting reading and the section on botantical classification fun to read as well. The section 2 on major vegetable familes is the meat of the book on seed saving and growing techniques for each. This too was very informative. The only slight drawback was the black and white photographs throughout the book if I were to rate it 4 out of 5 stars would be the b&w photos in the book. They are great photos and I can only imagine the true color artistry of each and would loved to of seen them in color in a future edition of this book. I have the 2nd edition of this book. |

It covers many areas in-between also, i.e., pollination, crossing, range to encourage and/or prevent each of those, etc.
