The book is set up in an easy to read format with projects and great tips as well as the basics. Definitely geared toward urban gardeners. |

That isn't to say that I haven't picked up much information, it is just that it takes something extra special to make me pick up a book to garner the information.
I checked this book out from the library and read it cover to cover within the afternoon. It was a page-turner for me, as it was aimed at a 20-to-30-something female audience that has to do container-or-urban gardening. What I learned from the book was not the finer points of growing tomatoes, or how to properly augment my standard potting mix so that I could grow organic cucumbers, but was instead some workable solutions so that I could have as full blown a garden as the big boys, without any actual land to put it in.
It contains solutions for gardening on roof tops, fire escapes, or entirely inside including alternative containers (who would have thought to just plant in potting mix bags!). It also contains composting solutions for all of the above. There is also a quick and dirty section on how to prop. plants and one on seed saving, too. General, yes, but enough to spark interest.
Plus, the projects are fabulous!
This is a good gift book, to give to someone who has always admired your garden but doesn't think they have what it takes to start. It also comes backed up by a website where the majority of the book is reproduced if you want to save your $$.
I give it two thumbs up. I love the seed packet templates. Perfect size and shape! |
