This is an excellent book. It's designed particularly for Canadian gardeners but would be of interest to all. Chapter titles include:

-and a "Finale" chapter containing miscellaneous tips such as how to recycle Christmas trees, and how to find, start or get involved with your neighbourhood "Grassroots" ecological gardening community if you're so inclined.

There is a good appendix including a plant list and organic amending tips (i.e. the N/P/K ratios of various things that you can add to your soil, such as cattle manure, seaweed, wood ash, etc.)

Marjorie Harris is a well-known gardening expert in Canada; she's written many books & articles. This book is typical of her practical, accessible approach, combined with a sense of humour. Contains several line drawings, but otherwise not illustrated. Very readable and useful.

Highly recommended.
