Actually I was hoping hear of others' experiences.
I was fortunate enough to spot a couple of beautiful of "Rivers Europ...Read Moreean Purple" Beech trees (Fagus sylvatica 'Riversii') on clearance at a local nursery back in September 2013. I have always been a fan of beech trees, so I brought them home and immediately planted them in my backyard well away from the house.
And while I have a pretty decent sized backyard, it was already fairly crowded with trees and shrubs before I added these two new trees. The trees are still small of course and they did not grow noticeably in size last year, but the leaf color was nice.
Right now I am looking forward to another good growing season, but am considering moving one of them to give it a little more space from the other trees and shrubs. I don't have enough room to make this one tree a real "specimen" tree unless I cut down a nice "Prairie Fire" crabapple though.
