It also has some amazing hardiness for such a succulent plant (supposedly down to 7A, though I have no experience in that climate). Must be a slow or difficult plant- nearly all the botanical gardens have one, but those plants are all relatively small for how big this thing gets. This species is a minimal brancher- most columns are 4-sided and have periods of rapid growth, designated by the wide sections, and minimal growth which are the narrow sections.
