The scent of the foliage is wonderful, like that of melons. The edible flowers have a more intense and floral version of this scent and flavor to them. I have used them to great effect in fruit salads, along with lemon balm.
Even in my zone, which only very rarely drops below freezing, it dies back quite a bit in the winter. It comes back soon enough, though.
