The wild form which was taken by Linneus and introduced to the general public in 1753 has over the last two centuries been bred with a neglecta and since has become much taller than the wild iris germanica of Linneus's originally description of 21" inches in height in it's now domesticated taller form germanica vulgaris. the wild shorter form is so identical to the iris 'Dorothea' by Caparne 1901 http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/113863/, which I understand is an improved version of the wild Germanica Species of the same height, that it makes me wonder how much is actually wild germanica by Linneus from Italy, and how much is really Caparne's 'Dorothea' from 1901. Grandmother's Blue Flag's bloom time is Early to EM blooming season. I've seen mine reach more than 36 inches tall. Sandra.
