The main complaint is it is not "stable" in that it can revert to solid colored. To prevent this, cut off all solid colored shoots from the base.
This one is also a bit more cold sensitive than others.
I want to add that where there were big colorful stands of this phormium now all that is left is drab olive green phormiums. All have reverted. UGLY! The landscaping around the Oakland–Alameda County Coliseum had a big ring of these and also down in front of it by the 880 freeway was a double row of them. All now are a drab dark color.
