So my original profile began, February of 2004. With another year of gardening under my belt, and lots of time in Dave's Garden, I'm still new to gardening but feeling much more at home. My first gardening endeavors started March 19, 2001. My backyard was small, full of pine trees, covered with a thick carpet of pine straw, and had a small spot of sunshine you could chase across the yard as the Sun moved across the sky (but it wouldn't do you any good.) I didn't know enough to be discouraged, so I just raked (and raked and raked!) pine straw into "shapes", to start defining what I thought looked like attractive flower beds (but then, I've always had quite an active imagination!) The story of all my mistakes- and a few successes- is long, a story for another day. Today my back yard is still small, but the pines came down in January 2003. The pine straw is gone, some new trees have been planted, and most of the yard is bathed in sunlight most of the day. I found this website while I was looking for more information on all the things I can now grow (found it on a Google search), and last year (2004) the garden finally started taking shape. It's exciting to see the changes since two years ago, and even since last year. Amazing things that I never thought I'd see in my garden are happening! And so, my "young" life as a gardener continues... " |
